SCIENCE SCHOLARSHIPS

Female students pursuing studies in pure sceinces,
nano-technology and food technology were
provided scholarships to pursue graduate, post-
graduate and doctoral studies for three years. This
project of Rotary Club of Pune Central, RI District
3131 was supported by E-Club of Taiwan. 140
students were benefitted each year and the total
cost was US $ 129,000.

A TIMELINE OF POLIO ERADICATION

1979 Rotary launches a project to immunize more than six million children against polio in the Philippines.

1985 Rotary International launches Polio Plus, pledging to raise$120 million.

1988 Rotary members raise $247 million for Polio Plus, more than double their original goal.

The World Health Assembly passes a resolution to eradicate polio, which is endemic in 125 countries and affects 350,000 children every
year.

1994 The Global Polio Eradication Initiative is launched, spearheaded by the World Health Organization, UNICEF, U.S. Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention, and Rotary International.

The Western Hemisphere is declared polio-free.

1996 The reported incidence of polio is 85 percent lower than in 1988.

2000 The Western Pacific region, stretching from Australia to China, is declared polio-free.

2003 The Rotary Foundation raises $119 million from Rotarians in a 12-month campaign.

2006 The number of polio-endemic countries drops to four (Afghanistan, India, Nigeria, Pakistan), the lowest in human history.

2009 The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation pledges $355 million and issues Rotary a $200 million challenge grant.

2014 The Southeast Asia region, which includes India and is home to one-quarter of the World’s population, is certified polio-free after going
three full years without a new case caused by the wild poliovirus.

2015 Nigeria is removed from the list of polio-endemic countries, leaving only Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Only 74 new cases of polio caused by the wild poliovirus are reported during the year.

2016 Over the preceding 30 years, Rotary has contributed more than $1.5 billion to help immunize more than 2.5 billion children against
polio, and helped secure over $7.2 billion from donor governments.

LEARNING - MICRO CREDIT FINANCE

Rotary Club of Batkal RI Dist 3170, Karnataka alongwith Rotary Club of La Jolla Sunrise, California RI Dist.
5340, USA and Rotary Dist. 2080, Italy have impacted the families of 682 rural women of villages by
empowering them through micro credit loans, skill development training and upgrading of facilities at day
care centres. The project has brought smiles on the faces of these women with the improvement in their
economic standards.



FUTURE IS HERE



The villagers of Magasanithippa
Island have every reason to
rejoice. The Rotarians of RI District
3020 have built houses for 64
fishermen families of the Island,
whose homes were shattered by
the killer Tsunami waves. People
who marooned on this remote
Island now have a chance to a
better future. Rotary Club of
Tamworth England, Rotary Club of
Kakinada, Rotary Club of
Konaseema, Murramalla and RI
Dist. 3020, Andhra Pradesh have
constructed houses at a cost of US
$ 135,000.

MOBILITY FOR DISABILITY

Rotary Club of Khammam
in the state of Telangana
Dist. 3150 runs an
artificial limb centre for the
disabled. Rotary Club of
Kingston Upon Thames,
England and Rotary Club
of Shepperton Arora Dist.
1140 England have
supported the project.



The Club gives at least one artificial
limb per day. The limb centre is
run with the generosity of the
rotarians. Till day they have
distributed more than 7500 limbs
costing US $ 150,000.

E-CUBE





Rotary Club of Baroda Metro RI District 3060 has brought in qualitative improvement in the livelihood of
tribals by undertaking creative and simple interventions in harnessing the local natural resources. They
have by leveling of land, constructing check dams, stream plugs and training brought in additional farm
land in to cultivation and provided irrigation facilities to more than 160 hectares of land. This project at a
cost of US $ 108,950 benefitted more than 750 people of the tribal village.

DIVINE - BOVINE

Poverty is a global problem, which has
to be addressed at all levels. To combat
this problem, Rotarians have come up
with relevant strategies in the past cnd
are continuing with their best efforts in
the present too. Encouraging dairy
farming was one of the 'milky ways' that
was undertaken by Rotarians to give a
livelihood to thousands of people. Cattle
is considered as a divine animal in India
and probably this divine dispensation will
help to remove poverty. RI Dist. 3150
in the States of Andhra Prades and
Telangana through several Rotary Clubs
and support of Clubs from Australia have
distributed more than 1000 she buffallos
costing US $ 385,000

IN THE SHADOW OF A DREAM



A 'Batik' Training Centre was
established to enpower 200 trainees
by RI Dist. 3240 with the support of
RI Dist. 3300. The centre was
established at Santiniketan, Kolkata,
West Bengal with a total project cost
of US $ 32410.

The centre will continue to work
with the funds raised from the sale
of Batik Works.





WATER IS PROSPERITY



Rotary Club of Thane, RI Dist.
3142 have constructed 8 check
dams bringing water to the
parched and draughted
effected lands in remote
villages of Maharashtra. These
check dams have benefitted
more than 50,000 villages and
several hundreds of cattle
bringing prosperity and
vegitation. The project cost is
US $ 90,000 and was
supported by Rotary Club of
Phoenix, RI Dist. 9220, USA.

END OF POVERTY

Recognising the need to create additional income and alternate source of income to
the poor farming community so that they can make out a decent living, Rotarians of RI
Dist. 3150 in the State of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have distributed thousands of
sewing machines with the support of clubs from Australia, Italy & USA. The project ben-
efitted thousands of families in breaking the circle of poverty. The total project cost over
the years is approximately US $ 500,000

Community Agricultural Equipment Bank provides equipment to poor and needy
farmers on less than market rent to support and increase their source of livelihood.
The project was conceived by RI Dist. 3132, Maharashtra with the International
Partner Rotary Club of Salem, RI Dist. 6650, USA. The total cost of the project is
US $ 35,000.

AGRICULTURAL EQUIPMENT BANK

CHILLEWADI FOOT OVERBRIDGE

An entire village which was cut off from the reaches of Education, Medical Services and even Emergency
Services during the 4 monsoon months is now connected 24/7/365 for over 5 years. Thanks to Rotary
Club of Mumbai Versova, RI Dist. 3141, Maharashtra. The Foot Overbridge has improved access to the
entire village and made a positive change in their lives. The total cost is approximately US $ 100,000.

ECONOMIC
UPLIFTMENT

The check-dam project of RI Dist. 3140 has over
the last 8 years helped in irrigation of hundreds of
hectares, allowed double / sometimes triple
cropping, recharged the water table to some extent
and has resulted in an additional income of about
INR 8000 per acre per year per rural family. 32
check-dams at a cost of US $ 155,000 were built
benefitting more than 400 families.

EMPOWERING THE FISHERMEN

RI Dist. 3150 in the States of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have distributed hundreds of
fishing boats with nets in the coast lines of Chirala, Vetapalem and Nizampatnam. These
boats empowered families in enhancing the livelihood and the project cost is US $ 300,000

school facility were constructed and
handedover to the tribal families by
RI Dist. 3230 with the support of
Rotary Club of Jingu Chokseok, RI
Dist. 3590.

HAPPY VILLAGE









MICRO LOANS

Rotary Club of Candy, RI Dist 3220, Sri Lanka with the support of Rotary Club of Singapore has
provided Micro Loans of approximately total value of US $ 1,408,100. More than 2,678 families
benefitted by setting up small businesses and there by improving their economic standards.

PROJECT HOPE - MOBILITY MATTERS

Disability is a global phenomena that cripples the lives of many individuals. The physically challenged
with mobility impaired find it difficult to get themselves included in the main stream. RI Dist. 3150,
in the states of Andhra pradesh and Telangana took an initiative to make mobility easier for the
physically challenged by providing thousands of tricyles supported by clubs in USA, Italy, Finland and
Australia at a cost of US $ 350,000.

The Jaipur Limb and the LN-4 GIFT OF
prosthetic hand being provided by SELF RELIANCE
Rotary Bangalore Peenya, RI Dist 3190,
Karnataka is a life changer to more than
35,000 beneficiaries who have been
provided artificial limbs, crutches,
calipers, wheel chairs, tri-cycles and
LN-4 Prosthetic Hands at no cost.

875 Polio Corrective Surgeries and 75
Hip Replacement surgeries too were
conducted for those afflicted with
Arthritis.

The club was supported by Rotary Club
of Minneaopolis, USA, Rotary Club of
Plainsboro USA, RC Brentwood
Breakfast UK, Rotary Club of Fareham
UK, Rotary Club of Guildford UK and
The Rotary Jaipur Limb Trust UK.

Amount of approximately US $
632,000 was spent.



DOHA

Rotary Club of Bombay Seacoast RI Dist. 3141
implemented water shed management techniques in
drought hit villages in Wardha district (Maharashtra, India).
This will help store an aggregate of about 128 million liters
of water which will benefit approximately 440 households
consisting of about 1,850 people and 2,500 cattle. The
project was supported by Rotary Club of Irvine RI District
5320 and the total project costed US $ 67,000.

SKILL INDIA

Vocational training facility was created to train women in sewing, knitting, embroidery, nursing, geriatric care, baking,
beautician services etc. to less educated youth for helping them gain economical sustainability. Rotary Club of Pune
Central RI District 3131 executed the project with the support of E-club of Taiwan at a total cost of US $ 85,000. 120
students benefit every year.

An women empowerment centre was set up by Rotary Club of Ankleshwar RI District 3060
with the support of Rotary Club of Columbia Metro RI District 6080. Training in stitching is
provided to women and school uniforms stiched by these women are distributed to poor girl
children in rural / tribal areas. The club helps in procuring the orders and selling them.
