Welcome to Pada!

Thank you for finding this journal. It is a gift, whose roots can be traced back
to years of work and collaboration between the unhoused and housed in
New Orleans. It is a product of providing wellness activities, group sharing,
mindfulness, and healthy nutrition to the unhoused.

Pada, the name of this journal, means ”step” in an ancient language. To us, it
is symbolic of taking intentional steps towards living a more fulfilling life. Our
intention is that is that Pada will assist you in finding lasting contentment along
your unique journey of life.

Pada is designed to help us find this contentment and peace by living
intentionally and practicing the things that truly bring us lasting happiness.

Pada emerged thanks to years of work with the unhoused. For years, every
Friday we offered a program called Street Wellness to persons currently
experiencing homelessness. It created a safe space for the participants and
offered mindful movement, periods of stillness, healthy foods and an honest
discussion of life on the streets and simple ways people were coping with
stress. It resulted in glimpses of what a supportive community could look
like. The unhoused were offered a chance to express their connection and
gratitude by tying a red string on each others wrist as a symbol of recognition
of the connection we all felt.

As time went on and trust was established, several regulars expressed wanting
to be able to continue to carry the feeling they experienced at Street Wellness
into their lives on the streets and beyond. We designed Pocket Wellness,

a pocket sized bag that included essential oil, a candle, a small
pamphlet of basic mindful movements, a loving kindness meditation
and a connection string.

These along with our personal practices of daily journaling created
the idea of Pada as both an offering and a fundraising tool.

The proceeds from this journal go towards furthering the mission of
Santosha Village, which is to co-design holistic modern communities
accessible to all, especially the unhoused, people on disability, people
earning minimum wage or those in a cycle of poverty. Santosha
Village hopes to do this by creating hyper-affordable housing,
providing access to healthy nutrition and wellness tools, making
transportation affordable, and providing life skills/livelihood
opportunities. We believe that through the power of community and
the help of those who believe, this dream will surely come to life.

If you or someone you know cannot afford the cost of this journal
but still wants it, it is available freely to download and print from our
website www.santoshavillage.org.

May we all have the privilege of living a truly fulfilling life, and in the
process co-design a world we are proud to call our home.

How do I use Pada?

Pada is a carefully thought out journal that provides an easy framework
for personal transformation. Transformation happens when we do things
regularly and over a longer period of time.
To notice a marked difference, we suggest you work with this journal daily for
a minimum of 2 months.
The journal only takes about 15 min a day to complete.

Some key features of this journal are...

* Encourages daily wellness habits such as inspirational reading, movement,
meditation, and more.

* Provides a framework to practice the power of kindness and compassion.
* Helps you organize your day and week.
* Provides insight into your daily nutrition and finances.
* Anticipates your interactions for the day to create better and more

meaningful relations & outcomes.
* Allows you to define and manifest your life’s intentions.

Pada is structured into three sections... PADA: A JOURNAL FOR LIVING A FULFILLING LIFE | 7

Planner:

This is the heart of the practice. Start here. It is composed of daily
and weekly worksheets.

Reminders:

This includes of diverse set of lists that you can store and reference,
such as affirmations, ideas, fears, etc. These work in conjunction with
the daily and weekly worksheets to create a deeper transformation
that grows with you. You can even create your own custom lists.

Discoveries:

This section contains deeper dives into areas that impact our lives
such as identifying life intentions, working with fears and more. It is
a combination of knowledge and deep analysis to help us understand
ourselves. When you have an hour or two, pick up a process and
complete it.

Quick note...

You can navigate quickly between these sections even when Pada is
closed. The black tabs on the right-hand pages’ edge will indicate
where sections begin and end.

Getting started PADA: A JOURNAL FOR LIVING A FULFILLING LIFE | 9

Pada is easy to get started and slowly grows with you. Start with the
Planner section. This is the equivalent of your daily journal.

Start with the Daily Worksheet.

There is a sample daily worksheet at the beginning of the planning
section. Ideally the daily section is completed in two parts: the
morning and the evening. The morning part sets your intentions
and anticipations of the day. Sometimes you may want to complete
a question or two two during the day. The evening section is a quick
reflection of how the day transpired. The daily worksheets also
encourage you to create and reference lists in the reminders section.
Work with the reminders section as you feel comfortable and when
it seems relevant. Lastly, at the end of each week there are four “free
form” journal pages for traditional journaling.

Move on to the Weekly Worksheet

At the end of every 7 days, there is a weekly worksheet. This
worksheet provides an opportunity to reflect on the past week and
start the coming week with renewed intention. It also provides a
chance to reflect & align with the larger intentions and goals you
may have for the year or for your life. Some questions/reflections
assume the completion of certain activities in the Discoveries section.
Skip over them and whenever you have an hour or two, complete
one of the segments in the Discoveries section. Remember there is
tremendous benefit to working with the weekly worksheets even
if you don’t do any of the discovery section. The weekly section is
designed to be completed in one sitting.

Tips for success

* Set a time to do your journal in the morning and evening (10 min)

* Set a time to do the weekly reflection ( 10 min)

* To see change, commit to doing it for at least 2 months
