10 Steps to the Perfect Stress-Free Vacation by Scott Moore

Planning and taking a vacation can sound stressful when you sit down to start your plan. However, there are some simple steps that you can take to make the entire
process easy and stress-free from start to finish.

1.) Determine your travel dates- Take out a calendar and review any upcoming events that would prevent you from traveling. If you have school age children
determine their available dates that do not conflict with their school calendar. Other items to consider are upcoming weddings, graduations, family births,
reunions, doctors appointments, sporting events, and recitals. As well as any events which you participate in with social and philanthropic clubs or
organizations of which you are a member . Knowing what is on your calendar makes the planning of a great vacation, so much easier.

2.) Determine a vacation type and destination – Where do you want to go and how do you want to get there? This is the “What floats your boat” question. Is the
answer a cruise, or do you prefer something land based this year? Where do you want to go and what do you want to experience? Write down two or three
destinations and be considerate of the time your calendar says you can travel, as you have to consider time of year for some destinations.

3.) Determine your budget- This is a question that some find hard to establish, but it is very important in planning as it establishes a base line of trips. It helps to
know which trips can be considered that fall within the guidelines of the date and destination preferences. It also allows us as your travel agent to look into the
itineraries and suppliers that can give you the most value for your budget. Booking further out from your trip can help with this, as you can earmark monies
towards this trip to establish a more concrete budget to allow you to maybe do more than you thought originally.

4.) Call a Travel Professional- You could spend hours, days, even weeks on the internet scouring for your vacation and trying to generate ideas on what to see and
do. You have selected a destination and now trying to figure out the easiest and most cost effective way to do it all. But, why would you not call us here at
Travel and Cruise World - 863-295-9017) to take the stress off trying to do that, when we can make your planning and arrangements easy from start to finish.
We work with all major suppliers and some smaller wholesalers and operators that you may not have access. We work to bring you great travel experiences
that provide you insight into the destinations and all while finding you the best promotions and values to make the experience fit your time frame, your trip type,
and your budget.

5.) Travel Documentation – As the world evolves and security becomes increased it is even more important to have the proper identification when you travel. Not
having the proper documentation can really make the stress add-up. If you have a valid passport book then you can travel without any issues. Our agents are
trained to advise of proper travel documentation when planning your trip including any travel visas or inoculations (vaccines) that you may be required to have
based on your destination and itinerary.

6.) Be reasonable with your time on vacation- It is human nature to want to see and do it all. But, based on the time frame you have, and the amount of time you are
in a specific location, you have to maintain a rational approach to your exploring and enjoying a destination. We like to remind our clients that some of the best
parts of vacations and traveling is the “experience”. We encourage guests not to book and plan every waking moment, but instead schedule the most important
sights and experiences, while leaving some time open for things that may develop while traveling. My personal travels have been accentuated by following this
advice and opened doors to experiences and friendships that otherwise would not have developed.

7.) Challenge Yourself to be different- Many times when we work with clients, we ask questions to develop a relationship that helps us understand you and the way
you like to travel. We all can sometimes get into a routine and not open ourselves to trying new things or possibly expanding our horizons into possibly
considering a new destination. This is compared to going out to dine and ordering the same thing off the menu during each visit. Opening the door to new
possibilities is a great thing, and one that nourishes you and reignites the passion that we all get from travel and new experiences. Flex your passport muscles
some, and you will be pleasantly surprised at the memories and stories that you will return with. Tired of the same 7-night sailings to the Caribbean, try a longer
voyage that will bring you new ports of call. Maybe try an escorted vacation and experience a destination with a new group of friends, that you will meet and get
to know in a new destination. The opportunities are endless.

8.) Don’t Over Pack- This is a tough one and one that sometimes presents challenges for my travels. It has gotten better over the years and it is definitely an area
that can present stress while traveling. However, it is possible to manage your packing even on longer trips, to maintain your sanity and still have the items you
need during your travels. Use the rule of “Less is More”. Pick outfits that can mix and match, so that you can wear things multiple times and pack less clothes.
Pack items in compressible bags to take excess air out of items. Pack small bathroom items to avoid excess weight from full size bottles. Take only necessary
tech items and chargers.

9.) Set Communication Expectations – If you plan to stay in touch with family, friends, or your workplace, be sure to make the necessary arrangements to make that
process easy. Advise those you plan to touch base with when you might be doing that, so that they can set aside time to expect your call. You can always
correspond via email or text messaging as well. With Wi-Fi access you can even video chat (Skype or Facetime) with those back home.

10.) Live In The Moment – When you have finally departed on your vacation really GO ON VACATION. Enjoy the time away from the stresses we all contend with in
our daily lives. Use the time to soak up time with your family and friends and make new memories together. Try some new foods, get out on the dance floor
even if you cannot kick as high as you once could. Take the opportunity to be adventurous, and do some things that you may consider “out of the box” from
your daily life. Many times we will remind guests to leave their “worries and struggles” at the pier or the airport and truly get away from it all.

Four Tips for Planning a Great
Intergenerational Trip

Intergenerational travel can be tricky—when you land in a new city, your favorite

thing to do might be to get a cup of coffee at an outdoor café to take in the scenery,

while your 5-year-old grandchild can barely sit still long enough to stop terrorizing

the pigeons. Or you and your adult children might be adventurous eaters, wanting

to hit every insider-only hot spot in town, while your teenage grandkids just want

to order room service. It's no surprise that when you're traveling with a group, es-

pecially a group that may range from 9 months old to 90 years old, conflicts can

arise. “It's important to think about the different needs of everyone in your

group, so the more active members can run as hard as they want, while others can

have a more relaxing pace—and everyone has a good time,” says Valerie Grubb,

Free Walking Tours - Want to get a lay of the land and start to feel like a local? Sniff out the closest bakery
to your hotel or take in historical landmarks by engaging in a free walking tour. Not only will it help you get
your bearings, but you’ll probably come across some of the area’s popular sights. Most major cities in
Europe offer free walking tours, as do cities across Asia, Australia and the United States. So strap on your
tennis shoes and grab that walking stick!
Take in a Museum - If you’re a museum lover, you probably had this idea in mind anyway. But if not …
especially if your trip takes you to Europe, keep in mind that famous museums, including The Louvre in
Paris, offer discounted and sometimes even free admission. If you’re visiting London, there are a host of
free museums including the British Museum, which houses the Rosetta Stone. Of course, famous land-
marks like Big Ben and the London Bridge are free to visit and definite must-see attractions on your next
trip. Your best bet is to call or visit the museum’s website to see what deals they are offering curious visi-
tors like yourself.
Ditch the Cab - As the saying goes, “When in Rome, do as the Romans do.” Traveling around town in a
cab might seem quick and convenient, but it’s also costly. Instead, opt for public transportation; it’ll often
be a far more thrifty way to get around. Besides, most important landmarks usually can be reached by bus
or subway. Or, if you happen to be traveling amid some warmer, friendlier weather, see if bike rentals are
an option. Nothing’s lovelier than feeling a fair summer breeze on your face as you take in the city.
Use the Locals to Your Advantage
Who knows more about local deals and free entertainment like the locals? Take advantage of your hotel
concierge, visitor’s centers and even your waiter. Even locals like to save money when they have fun. So,
they’ll likely know the best places to get cheap drinks and eats, or where to catch a free live show … and
because the locals hang out there, it might not be buzzing with tourists.

You can easily see the world while sticking to a budget, so use these tips to enjoy your trip without
worrying about your bank account.

16 Tips To Staying Healthy While Traveling

by Joanne Chen

Here's the secret to staying healthy no matter where you're
traveling.
Come what may—cold, flu, norovirus—certain travelers manage
to jet-set all over the world, attend the most crowded events, and
rarely get sick. If you're not one of the lucky few, there are still
some ways to mitigate the negative health effects of frequent
travel. Here’s what you need to know to stay well on your next
getaway.
BEFORE YOUR TRIP
1. Strengthen your immune system. The scientific evidence on
the powers of supplements to prevent cold and flu isn’t yet
conclusive, but it doesn’t hurt to take them if they’ve worked for
you in the past, says Phyllis Kozarsky, M.D., the Centers for
Disease Control’s travelers’ health consultant. A frequent traveler
herself, she favors probiotics to boost gut health.
2. Pack these items in your carry-on: Hand sanitizer with at least 50 percent alcohol; disinfecting wipes (such as Clorox or Lysol); a light shawl or coat that can be used
as a blanket; a travel pillow (on a long-haul flight or train trip); bandages; and nasal spray.
3. Wear glasses instead of contact lenses. Contact lenses can dry your eyes and make them vulnerable to microbial invaders. Wearing glasses also makes you less
likely to touch or rub your eyes.
AT AIRPORTS, TRAIN STATIONS, AND OTHER PUBLIC SPACES
1. Stay at least six feet away from people who are coughing, sneezing, or who simply look sick. That’s the distance tiny virus-filled droplets can travel when exhaled by
a flu-infected person—landing in your eyes or nose and ending up in your respiratory system.
2. Sanitize hands after touching germy hot spots: For instance, the ticket kiosk, ATM, security-line bins (have you seen anyone clean those between use?), door
handles, dining trays and tables, and anything in the bathroom. “If it’s touched by a lot of people, it’s a potential problem,” says Vincent Racaniello, Ph.D., professor of
microbiology and immunology at Columbia University, and founder of a blog about viruses. Use sanitizer on all parts of your hands, making sure to include fingertips
and any rings. If you can’t clean right away, at least be mindful of not touching your hands, nose, and mouth.
3. Treat public bathrooms as the germy cesspool they are. Do not put your bags on the floor, or your toiletry kit on the counter (if you must, then use disinfectant wipes
afterward). Do your business without sitting on the toilet. Close the lid before flushing, or, if there isn’t one, flush as you leave, to minimize spray-back. Avoid touching
surfaces with hands. Wash hands with soap and water for a full 15 seconds before you leave. Use your drying towel to exit without touching the door handle (if you
can’t, then use hand sanitizer after you leave the bathroom).
4. Wear socks through the security line of an airport. The chances of getting a fungal infection are low—you need a damp floor for that to happen—but you may pick
up something on your feet, which then gets transmitted onto your hands as you put your shoes back on (and then your face).
5. Buy a bottle of water (or two) before boarding on a plane. While the tap water on-board has greatly improved in the last 10 years, random samplings have still every
so often picked up fecal bacteria, says Charles Gerba, Ph.D., professor of microbiology & environmental sciences at the University of Arizona in Tucson. If you
anticipate brushing your teeth or splashing your face during your flight, use bottled water.
ON A PLANE OR TRAIN
1. Prep your seating area. Flight crews have little time to disinfect between flights, so break out the wipes and tackle the backseat tray table and latch, armrests,
headphones, digital screens, and window shutters. Cold and flu viruses can live a few hours to three days on inanimate surfaces. “Norovirus is particularly hardy and
can live up to four weeks,” says Gerba. Trade the standard-issue blanket and pillow for your own. And use your carry-on as storage instead of your backseat pocket.
After all, how can you be sure that the passenger before you didn’t put a dirty diaper or used tissues inside?
2. Point the overhead air vent down so the current flows vertically in front of your face. This helps divert potentially infectious droplets away from your eyes, nose, and
mouth. If your nose feels dry, refresh with nasal spray—keeping the mucus membrane moist will increase its ability to fight infectious microbes, says Gendreau.
3. Use your hand sanitizer throughout the trip—particularly: after putting your luggage away (lots of people touch the handles); after you read the magazine in the back
pocket; and after you get out of the bathroom. “The longer the flight the greater the number of infections that can be expected,” says Harunor Rashid, M.D., an
epidemiologist with The National Centre for Immunisation Research & Surveillance, in Sydney, Australia.
4. Pay attention to your armrest if you’re in an aisle seat. In a 2008 Centers for Disease Control investigation of a norovirus-infected flight between Boston and Los
Angeles, aisle-seat passengers were particularly vulnerable. These armrests are often touched by passengers heading in and out of the restroom, says Gerba—and
most people don’t have clean hands.
5. Notify a staff person if you notice someone who is visibly ill. If possible he or she can move the passenger away from you (and others, depending on the situation),
and if it’s a respiratory problem, they will provide a face mask. But it's not just the person sitting next to the sick passenger that’s vulnerable to cold or flu viruses: The
conventional wisdom is that the two rows in front and in back of the sick person are most vulnerable, but in an "Emerging Infectious Diseases" paper published earlier
this year, a passenger was, in fact, infected by the initially flu-infected person eight rows away.
USING GROUND TRANSPORTATION
1. Find the least crowded spot possible on buses and subways. There’s no bathroom on these vehicles, and the trip is usually short, so the risks are smaller than on a
plane or long-haul train. However, close contact makes you vulnerable. You’re not entirely in the clear when taking a cab if the driver is coughing, says Racaniello, but
you can open the window to help aerate the space.
2. Take a seat. “Sitting is better than standing,” says Racaniello. Seats are less contaminated than poles and straps—both of which are very much so. If you must hang
on to one, make sure not to touch your face during the ride.
3. Sanitize your hands after leaving buses, subways, and taxis. Whether you touched the ticket turnstile, or swiped the screen on the cab, or are just not sure, clean
your hands. In a 2011 BMC Infectious Diseases paper, individuals were at six times higher risk for contracting flu during winter if they use a bus or tram compared to if
they never do.

Just Prior To Departure, Make Sure the Traveler is Advised of the Following:

Respect Local Laws and Customs - As an example, those who drink and drive in the UAE can be put in prison.

Carry Only as Much Money as They Will Need Each Day - They should place extra funds, tickets and documents in the hotel safe,
and keep money and important papers in separate places.
Eat and Drink Judiciously - hey ought to ascertain if the local tap water is safe to drink. If not, advise they drink only bottled water,
plus avoid having ice in their drinks. Additionally, suggest they only eat food that has been freshly cooked to avoid contaminated
food.

Keep in Contact With Home - f family and friends know the traveler is safe and secure, they are less likely to panic if there is an emer-
gency in the country they are visiting.
Know the Rules of the Road - On the spot fines are common in a number of foreign countries (no exceptions for foreigners).
Always Protect from Mosquitoes - n many parts of the world, it is important to be protected from mosquitoes, i.e., use insect repellents, wear long-sleeved shirts and long
pants, and sleep under a mosquito net.

Take Necessary Security Precautions - Travelers should carry a minimum amount of cash each day and they should not bring valuables when sightseeing. Advise them to
avoid unlit streets at night.

Don’t Associate with Illegal Drugs - Passengers must never carry any items through customs for other people or leave their luggage unattended. Several foreign countries
have the death penalty for involvement with illegal drugs.
