MNS 3.0
The main characteristic of the MNS R switchgear is the rear connection MNS iS
for the power cables; this design has an impact on the dimensions of the MNS PDU
switchgear by reducing its total width.

The ideal application of the MNS R is as a Power Centre for energy
distribution; it is possible to reduce the overall dimensions by installing
more than one ACB in the same column without reducing the type tested
performance. Access to the power cables is by doors that can be either
hinged or unhinged depending on the space available in the Switch Room.

Additionally, the MNS R can be used as a Motor Control Centre containing
withdrawable, removable or fixed modules for the motor feeders including
variable speed drivers; this is the best solution to optimise the plant
process and increase the energy efficiency.

The MNS R also has the capability to include both Power Centre and
Motor Control functions in one combined switchboard.

MNS 3.0

MNS 3.0 is suitable for all applications such as steel plants, paper mills,
chemical, oil and gas, power plants, platforms and anywhere the
requirement is to guarantee the maximum safety standards together with
plant availability, maintenance simplicity and minimum dimensions.

Power and control cables along with all the operational functions are
accessible from the front of the switchboard, allowing the MNS 3.0 to be
installed against the wall.

Vertical distribution busbars are encapsulated inside the multifunction
wall that segregates the phases to create a fault free zone and guarantees
the IP2X protection when the drawers are removed. Additionally, the
modules can be withdrawn under controlled safe working live conditions,
making the MNS 3.0 suitable for all critical power applications.

MNS iS

MNS iS is the first innovative “intelligent” Motor Control Centre; it has
been developed using the latest technologies and is designed to be
integrated into the supervision and control systems that manage the
modern production plants.

Current and voltage measuring are performed by sensors instead of
traditional transformers. Inside the switchgear is the concentrator MLink,
the connection point with the external supervision and control systems
using the communication protocols like ModBus and Profibus.

With the software package named MService, it is possible to increase
the availability of the system due to the proactive maintenance which
means scheduling the maintenance activity according the real needs of
the components.

MNS PDU

Based on the MNS 3.0 design, key to the success of the ABB PDU is the
flexibility it provides to the Data Centre Operator by allowing Single Pole
Solid Neutral (SPN), Single Pole Switched Neutral (SPSN), 3 or 4 pole
modules of different current ratings to be mixed and matched in the same
PDU. The safe working whilst live removes the need to power down even
when adding, removing or extending the number of outgoing ways. When
the process of the Data Centre changes, the PDU has the ability to
change with the process; this flexibility provides huge operational cost
savings.

ABB PDUs have been in service for over 25 years and during this time
they have been re-configured to meet the ever changing needs of the
Data Centre Operator.

Sub Distribution

ABB is completing its portfolio with sub distribution switchboard solutions
designed to optimise cost and dimensions for all the lower performance
requirements.

Package Substations

ABB places particular emphasis on packaging the key elements of an
installations power requirement such as MV Switchgear, Transformers
and LV Switchgear. By utilising low energy and compact devices housed
in systems that are tried and tested to the latest national and international

Diesel & Gas Data Centres &
Diesel Generators from 6 to 3000kVA Generators Multi Megawatt

Our standard modular generators are mounted on heavy duty steel skids Our Pontefract Works Installations
and are delivered ready to run. Up to around 700kVA (dependent on the
model), our standard generators are supplied with an integrated base 2D & 3D Design
fuel tank (day tank) which would provide 4-8 hours operation at 100
percent of the machine’s load capability.

Numerous control options are available including load sharing, remote
operation and synchronised/parallel operation. As standard, a key-start or
automatic-start control panel would be mounted on the generator to allow
for manual operation or for integration into an existing control system.

A standard generator enclosure is not always suitable for a given project.
Here at Advanced we have a complete manufacturing facility enabling
us to design and build acoustic and weatherproof canopies for almost
any model of diesel or gas generator. You can choose a generator from
our substantial stock, enquire on the availability of other generator models
or even free issue your own generator to enable us to manufacture an
appropriate noise control system and/or weatherproof enclosure.

Acoustic Solutions Testing

For over 20 years, Advanced Diesel Engineering has supplied diesel Services &
generators for standby and prime power operation. From design and Maintenance
manufacture to installation and commissioning, Advanced provides
generators for a wide range of applications including prison security, Fabrication
hospital emergency power, and data centre standby systems.
Modular
Operating from our factory near Wakefield, we employ a large team of Equipment
highly skilled 2D and 3D design engineers who utilise a combination of Housing
traditional CAD methods and the latest 3D CAD technology, with the aid
of DSS Solidworks™.

Large Projects

Specialising in large projects, we design and manufacture modular
substations and bespoke power plants for the most demanding and power
critical applications.

An Advanced sub station or power plant protecting the mains supply
would typically include:

Engine & Alternator (Generator)

High power, EU or GB manufactured, diesel or gas generator from our
substantial stock or purchased to order from our well established network
of suppliers.

HV Transformer & Mains Integration

Commonly an 11kV oil or resin filled transformer with a local switch
disconnector would be utilised to convert the mains supply to 400V.

Connected to the mains / generator change over panel, this supply is
monitored for inconsistency or failure and when required, the standby
generator will start automatically.

Control & Monitoring

Alarms and warnings include output rating, engine temperature, engine
over speed, common shutdown and oil status. Optional features for
remote operation and monitoring can include SMS text warnings and
procedural text messages reporting the current system status.

All of these features can be integrated with most existing building
management systems.

Free-Standing Distribution Panels

Situated over pre-installed cable trenches, the outgoing fused panels
distribute the generator-protected mains power to site facilities.

Bulk Fuel Storage

A localised fuel supply, typically designed to allow at least 72 hours
uninterrupted operation.

Bespoke Silencing / Acoustic Modular Buildings

Reliability of power is the most important factor in power generation;
however, the maximum noise level is a very important consideration
during any generator installation.

For many years Advanced has specialised in the design and manufacture
of silenced and weatherproof containment for generators, pump systems,
rotary converters and other noisy machinery.

If you require an acoustic solution for noisy machinery, Advanced can

enclosure.

are blocked, compensation of prolonged deviations of the utility voltage,
filters utility borne harmonic voltages and load borne harmonic currents.

Low Total Cost of Ownership – Taken together all these factors leads
to a lower TCO compared to that of an entire standby diesel genset, static

Data Centre Solutions

HITEC’s “Dynamic Rotary UPS” (DRUPS) system was the first UPS to
gain Uptime Institute ‘Tier’ certification at a data centre application within
UK, Europe & EMEA. HITEC’s Data Centre Continuous (HDCC) ratings
are specific for operating in the Uptime Institute’s Tier III & IV applications.

Low Voltage (LV) & Medium Voltage (MV) Systems

Low voltage systems are an effective means of connecting modules together
for redundancy. HITEC offers a range of LV solutions such as parallel
redundant, isolated redundant, distributed redundant and isolated parallel.

Isolated parallel configuration allows connection of multiple DRUPS
modules at LV. It uses an isolating choke to connect each DRUPS module
onto a common bus (IP ring). This allows paralleling for redundancy but
“isolates” each DRUPS from one another under fault conditions. HITEC
uses the “ERACS” modelling software to size the IP chokes.

However, low voltage systems may not be the most cost effective means,
as medium voltage systems (11KV) from HITEC allow more modules to
be connected in parallel, with lower fault currents and smaller cables, so
offering a more cost effective installation for substantial sites with high
loads or that cover a large area.

Active Redundancy Control –
Continuous Support of IT & Cooling

HITEC’s Active Redundancy Control makes full use of the “spare”
capacity of a redundant module to provide a “No-Break” electrical supply
to the cooling load from the DRUPS system, while in no way

The APOTRANS range of high-performance Static Transfer Switches are

APOJET Ground Power Units

Changes to household consumer units as a result of amendment 3 to

MCCB panelboards makes installation up to 9x faster than before.
Memshield 3 MCCB panelboards have set new standards for versatility
and for fast, convenient installation by offering these easy-to-fit plug-and-
play metering facilities, as well as offering provision for incorporating
surge and lightning protection, the ability to accommodate four-pole
incoming devices with optional earth-leakage protection, and enhanced
mechanical construction.

Instead of having to make up to 42 individual connections to wire an
energy meter – a task that typically takes around 90 minutes and is error
prone because of the large number of connections – users of the new
panelboards only need make a few simple plug-in connections. The risk
of errors is eliminated, and a meter is easily wired in less than 10 minutes
and up to nine times faster.

The panelboards can be supplied in versions that accommodate incoming
devices rated up to 800A and outgoing devices rated from 16A to 400A.
They are available with 6 and 12 outgoing ways in all ratings, with selected
ratings also available in 18 way versions. At the low-current end of the
range, 250A incomer boards are additionally offered in 4- and 8-way
versions that provide convenient and cost-effective solutions for small
installations. All models meet the requirements of IEC 61439-2, with Form
3b, Type 2 separation.

As type-tested switchgear, SIVACON S4 stands for maximum reliability
and a high degree of safety. High quality, perfectly matched switching
devices facilitate an easy integration in the building control technology
concept thanks to the system’s outstanding feature: built in intelligence.

During operation, an efficient ventilation system prevents heat
accumulation and heat pockets, thus assuring long term system
availability.

A fast and easy access to the devices for setting purposes is facilitated
through doors with central locking, swivel frames and quick release locks.

Thanks to the enormously powerful locking system, maximum personal
safety is even guaranteed in fault cases. Forms of internal separation 1,
2b, 3b, 4a and 4b are available.

Powerstar MCCB Panelboards SIVACON S4 630A to 3200A
Powerstar 250
The Powerstar 125 and 250 range of panelboards are suitable for Polestar Compact
wall/floor mounting and are available in three busbar sizes. A 25kA, 250A
busbar system, a 35kA, 400A busbar system and a 50kA, 630A system
provide solutions for either main or sub main distribution requirements
within a broad range of commercial and industrial applications.

Integral incoming metering can be applied to any of the main units while
metering cableways accept meters for outgoing circuits. Lightning and
surge arresters can also be included as an integral option.

Meter kits and surge protective device kits are available which fuse links,
fittings, cable looms and the device itself. Powerstar 250 panelboards
are complete with fixed busbar assemblies, incoming switching unit and
are fully type tested to BS EN 61439-2.

Powerstar 250 circuit protective MCCBs consist of a TP switching unit
and overcurrent release providing a choice of characteristics.

Three available overcurrent releases will provide sixteen increments of
thermal overload release and two short circuit release settings. In total,
ratings of between 40A and 250A are catered for.

Switching units are available at 36kA and 65kA. In addition, GG frame
MCCBs, fixed magnetic/fixed thermal can be used in Powerstar 250
add-on units to provide both SP and TP options of between 15A and
125A.

Polestar Compact to 250A

Designed and manufactured in the UK, the Polestar Compact range of
distribution boards offers the contractor and specifier a comprehensive
package to address the demands of modern commercial installations.

Type B three phase distribution boards are suitable for wall mounting and
are available in two busbar sizes. A 125A and 250A busbar system is
suitable for use as sub or final distribution within both commercial and
industrial buildings.

All type B distribution boards offer an integral metering facility. This means
no increase to the overall footprint and so whilst retaining generous
cabling room, Polestar Compact distribution boards accommodate even
the tightest of riser cupboards.

Also available are Type A distribution boards. Both Type A and B
distribution boards are supplied complete with fixed busbar assemblies
and are fully type tested to BS EN 61439-3, utilising a sheet steel
enclosure finished in light grey paint (RAL 7035).

Ingress Protection is IP3X throughout the range. MCBs are 16kA
protective devices which have an 18mm modular width available as SP,
DP and TP with tripping characteristics B, C or D. RCBOs are available
as SP single module with tripping characteristics B or C.

Not so long ago electrical engineers had to pay a lot of attention to paint
colours, finishes and materials. It was very easy to get it wrong; the wrong
colour white, the wrong percentage of gloss and the wrong metal finish
often proved problematic for the engineer and client.

Another frequent bone of contention was the positioning of light fixtures in
an area. Architects often make engineers aware of their disappointment
when the clean lines of their space are interrupted by light fixtures.

Add to this the discomfort glare associated with direct lighting and the
problems can seem insurmountable.

Well thankfully Lighting Styles can solve the issues associated with using
traditional lighting by offering a variety of integrated lighting.

Simply put these plaster light fixtures become part of the building fabric,
and once painted, disappear into the walls or ceiling yet provide the accent
lighting or task lighting required in the space.

What’s more, linear integrated lighting allows the designer or architect to
play with light and shadows to enhance the design rather than detract from
it. But offering this flexibility does not have an impact on the engineers work
because this solution can still provide the lighting levels your space requires.
