AT SUNENERGY1, WE BELIEVE IN CREATING A FUTURE OF
SUSTAINABILITY AND ENVIRONMENTAL (BALANCE, STABILITY,
RESPONSIBILITY). THE EARTH IS OUR VEHICLE THROUGH TIME.
(WHICH MUST BE MAINTAINED BY RESPONSIBLE,
RENEWABLE STEWARDSHIP).
AS A RACE, WE MUST COMMIT TO SUBSTANTIALLY REDUCE THE
CONSUMPTION OF FOSSIL FUELS, THEREBY REDUCING CARBON
EMISSIONS AND TOXIC GREENHOUSE GASES. WE BELIEVE THAT
CLEAN, FORWARD LOOKING SOLAR ENERGY IS KEY TO THIS
TRANSITION.

At the heart of SunEnergy1, our corporate executives enrich the
entirety of the company with leadership and direction.
Kenny Habul has run SunEnergy1 for 10 years, growing it from a
company that built rooftop solar on large commercial buildings
to a contractor that built major, utility-scale projects for other
companies. SunEnergy1 is now building projects it owns and
operates itself.

2

The Pioneers of Large-Scale Solar Power on the East Coast
SunEnergy1 is a Top 5 U.S. solar developer with over 1000 MW installed. For nearly a
decade, we have developed numerous record-breaking solar projects in the region.
SunEnergy1 is vertically integrated and controls all stages of a solar project in-house,
creating affordable, low-risk solar power for corporate, institutional and utility partners.

3

How SunEnergy1’s growth helped in business transition.
Sunenergy1 is a vertically integrated Solar Developer that controls all stages of a solar project
in-house, from land acquisition, permitting, design, engineering, and construction to operations
and maintenance. This model creates significant pricing and term flexibility, ensuring the best
price for corporate, institutional and utility partners.

4

SunEnergy1 has one of the largest solar development pipelines in the United States with a 5GW
pipeline of solar-ready development sites, over 500 pieces of construction equipment, and over
350MW of owned solar facilities
SunEnergy1 Land Acquisition Specialists, help developers and project managers obtain quality terra
firma for renewable resource land development, as well as administer the land after it has been
purchased or leased. After attaining prime locations our work continues to coordinate with
permitting specialists, lawyers, engineers, and scientists to ensure that the site is built on time and
within budget.

5

Our Founder
Kenny Habul

During the past decade, Kenny Habul has established himself as a leader in the field of sustainable construction
technologies. He has sought to educate business leaders, stimulate commercial commitment to solar energy,
and inspire future generations by conducting lectures at universities and community colleges on the challenges
of interconnectivity and the business aspects of the solar industry.
Habul has received wide recognition for his contributions to the solar industry as founder of SunEnergy1 and in
his role as a sustainable construction consultant. In 2011, North Carolina State House Representative Ruth
Samuelson awarded Habul with recognition on behalf of the NC Solar Center. He was also presented with the
Energy Leadership Award in 2012 by the Charlotte Business Journal. Habul was selected to be a member of the
NC Solar Center Advisory Board and was invited to join the board of Aquesta Bank. He and SunEnergy1 also
hosted the Business North Carolina magazine 2012 Energy Round Table.

6

Energy Leadership Awards: Kenny Habul, chief executive, SunEnergy1
Kenny Habul was one of 10 individuals from the business and academic communities who were
recognized at the Energy Leadership Awards in Charlotte, NC. The event was hosted by The
Charlotte Business Journal. Award recipients were selected based on their impact on job growth,
their role in building the region into a national or international player in the industry, and their
influence on local, state or national energy policy.

7

ROOFTOP SOLAR PROJECTS

SunEnergy1 began in 2009 as a rooftop solar development company, developing the largest rooftop solar
on the east coast at that time. Since then, SunEnergy1 has developed some of the largest solar projects
in North Carolina with recent projects exceeding 120 MW. We also built the largest interconnected
substation for solar at 168 MW.

Role- EPC/Developer
SunEnergy1 installed a 5.2 MW rooftop solar system at the corporate headquarters of SHOE SHOW, INC., the largest
independent shoe retailer in the country. This solar system is the largest of its kind in the United States.
Our team worked closely with executives from SHOE SHOW, INC., to design, engineer, and install the entire system,
which uses a total of 17,851 BP 280 watt panels to generate over 6,694,569 kW per year. The system is connected to the
power grid using 12 Schneider Electric GT500 inverters. The panels are secured to the roof using the Panel Claw Grizzly
Bear racking system, a non-penetrating rack that will protect the roof.
This rooftop solar system was created in conjunction with Duke Energy’s Renewable Energy Plan, which offers incentives to
both commercial and residential customers who participate in the development of renewable energy. SHOE SHOW, INC.,
has entered into a Power Purchase Agreement with Duke Energy, who will purchase all power generated from the system.

North Carolina’s renewable-energy industry is
positioned for success
North Carolina is harnessing its abundant sunshine, too.
Enough solar energy is generated, mostly in eastern counties,
to meet more than 5% of the state’s electricity needs, accord-
ing to a 2017 Environment North Carolina Research and Policy
Center report. Solar production in North Carolina increased to
4,016 gigawatts in 2016, up from 1 gigawatt a decade earlier.
