Fifth Third Bank to become World’s First to Achieve 100%
Renewable with Single, Solar Project
The Aulander Holloman Solar Facility is one of the largest
solar projects in the United States. The system includes
more than 350,000 solar panels using single-axis tracking
systems and more than 2,000 inverters and related subsys-
tems. It is rated at 80 MW AC, which measures how much
power the project can send to the electric power grid at
any given time. The facility consists of roughly 120 MW DC
of solar panels enabling the project to generate approxi-
mately 202,000 megawatt hours (MWh) of electricity per
year.

Aulander Holloman Solar Facility in Hertford County,
North Carolina. Built by solar developer SunEnergy1, the fa-
cility is expected to generate clean power that is more than
or equal to the amount Fifth Third uses in a year, enough
to eliminate 143,000 metric tons of greenhouse gases and
power 25,000 homes.

Insurance Provider Anthem
has committed to a 15-year power purchase agreement with
SunEnergy1, a U.S. solar developer, owner and operator of utility-scale
solar projects, for the output from a new 182-acre, 20-MW solar field
located in Hanover County, Virginia.

The Virginia and North Carolina solar field locations were selected
based on Anthem’s material load (major office and data center foot-
print) in the grid zone that includes both states. Anthem expects the
solar field developments to generate enough renewable electricity to
power all Anthem offices and data centers across the country.

Digital Realty and Facebook Announce Renewable Energy
Virtual Power Purchase Agreement.

Digital Realty has executed a long-term renewable power
purchase contract to secure approximately 80 megawatts
of solar power capacity for Facebook. Digital Realty con-
tracted with SunEnergy1, which has developed and will own
and operate the solar project, to be located within Virginia
Electric and Power Company territory in North Carolina.
Under the terms of the agreement, all renewable energy
certificates and environmental claims will be delivered to
Facebook.

This agreement marks the first back-to-back utility-scale
renewable energy transaction between a data center pro-
vider landlord utilizing a virtual power purchase agreement
to underpin the renewable energy supply dedicated to a
customer. Digital Realty worked in partnership with Face-
book to structure the transaction to align with Facebook’s
quality standards for new renewable energy projects within
the same power grid as the data center load.

Solar Footprint

SunEnergy1 has grown into one of the largest solar
developers and contractors in the United States. We have
built more than 700 MW (AC) of solar projects, has more
than 400 MW (AC) ready for construction with another
3,000 MW (AC) in development.

68

Safety

At SunEnergy1 there is nothing more important than site
safety. Suntnergy1’s Safety Department focuses on ensuring
the well-being of all who enter our sites. Each project is
assigned a dedicated team of trained employees that will
ensure that safety and site security is always controlled.
Consistent and repetitive training, coupled with
implementation of new processes and procedures, ensures
that SunEnergy1 provides an injury-free work environment.

SunEnergy1 is proud to say that it has never had a loss time
injury. In addition, SunEnergy1 has pioneered safety in the U.S.
PV industry. These key safety provisions, which were set forth
in the 2010 National Electrical Code, were quickly and tully
implemented by Suntnergy1.

69

SunEnergy1’s dual role as both a developer and EPC
contractor makes it its own “key contributor’.
As evidenced by its experience, Suntnergy1 has the
ability to lead a solar project through all stages from
initial project development to system commissioning
and post-COD. Self-performing all stages of
development and construction allows Suntnergy1 to
ensure the most efficient use of resources while
achieving the highest standards of quality.
