6 TRADITIONS SPRING FLING, LSC-Tomball’s annual spring kick-off, brings together students, faculty, and staff for a day of festive fun. Organized by the Office of Student Experience and student groups, it offers engaging activities, free food, entertainment, rides, and more. Attendees can win exciting prizes, making it a highly anticipated and enjoyable gathering for all. ENGAGE is a dynamic three-week program aimed at immersing students in campus life and building connections with peers, faculty, and staff. Premiere Week, preceding classes, offers engaging activities, followed by Howl Week in the first week of classes, encouraging connections beyond classrooms. Involvement Week, in the second week of classes, wraps up ENGAGE, offering opportunities to join organizations, explore the Involvement Fair, and try out for sports teams, fostering community and campus involvement. CLUB CUP unites campus clubs in a day of friendly competition, showcasing skills, creativity, and teamwork in engaging challenges. It fosters community and connections among students, promoting lasting friendships beyond individual club affiliations. This spirited event celebrates diversity and shared experiences, emphasizing laughter, collaboration, and unity among LSC-Tomball clubs.
7 THE STUDENT EXCELLENCE AWARDS at Lone Star College-Tomball is an annual spring celebration, dedicated to honoring outstanding achievements. Recognizing excellence across various domains, it highlights diverse talents and contributions within the campus community. Nominations and awards, bestowed by faculty and staff, create a prestigious platform to showcase and applaud the remarkable accomplishments of student leaders. HOWL FEST, a cherished fall tradition, occurs every October on the Southwest Lawn, offering students a lively mix of free food, games, prizes, and dances. THE INVOLVEMENT FAIR offers students a vibrant opportunity to connect with campus organizations. This lovable Labradoodle, affectionately named after Officer Emily Tait, aims to be a beacon of emotional support for both students and staff. While not your conventional police K-9, Tater Tot is on a heartfelt mission to spread joy and warmth throughout the college community. With his training complete, he’s ready to embark on a campuswide journey, offering solace to anyone in need. 12 IMPORTANT TERMS Terms Description Associate Degree An award that normally requires at least 2 years but less than 4 years of full-time equivalent college work in a grouping of courses designed to lead the individual directly to employment in a specific career or to transfer to an upper-level baccalaureate program. This specifically refers to the associate of arts, associate of science, associate of applied arts, associate of applied science, associate of arts in teaching, and associate of occupational studies degrees. The term “applied” in an associates degree name indicates a program in which the content is primarily technical. Certificate Program A technical program designed for entry-level employment or for upgrading skills and knowledge within an occupation Clinical Clinical experiences provide workplace settings in which students learn and apply program theory and management of the workflow. Clinical experiences must take place in a health care setting and students must not be paid for learning experiences Cohort A group of persons who share one or more particular statistical or demographic characteristics, such as having received their associates degree in a certain year or range of years College Work Study Student The College Work-Study Program provides jobs for students with financial need, allowing them to earn money to help pay educational expenses. The program encourages community service work and work related to the course of study. Employment opportunities for Lone Star College students exist at each campus. Work study can be awarded to students with need who work on campus and who are paid according to the hours worked. Awards vary based on amount of need. Contact Hour/ Credit Hour A unit of measurement that represents an hour of scheduled instruction given to students of which 50 minutes must be of direct instruction Core Curriculum The common part of every undergraduate curriculum that introduces students to a broad range of knowledge areas beyond their major and helps students develop basic intellectual competencies in reading, writing, speaking, listening, critical thinking, and computer literacy. In Texas, the core curriculum usually consists of 42-48 semester credit hours of course work distributed among the disciplines of communication, mathematics, the natural sciences, the arts and humanities, and social and behavioral sciences. State law mandates the transfer of core curriculum courses between all public institutions of higher education. Developmental Education Developmental education is defined as courses, tutorials, laboratories, or other efforts to bring student’ skill levels in reading, writing, and mathematics to entering college level. English or Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and study skills or thinking skills courses are considered developmental education courses in the ACGM manual and fall under developmental education funding limits established by the Texas Legislature Full-time student An undergraduate enrolled in 12 or more credit hours First Generation College Students A student who is the first member of their immediate family to attend a college or university; neither of their biological or adoptive parents have earned a baccalaureate degree Official Day 12th class day for the Spring and Fall semesters. Last day to drop a class without adding to the six drop limit. Part-time student A student who is enrolled for less than 12 semester credit hours in the fall or spring semester Term Fall, Spring, or Summer. Fall: August to December, Spring: January to May, Summer: June to August. There may be mini-mesters that overlap terms. These mini-mesters will be reported in the term in which they start but will have different session codes. Transfer Student A student entering the reporting institution for the first time and is known to have previously attended another institution at the same level (e.g. undergraduate to undergraduate, graduate to graduate; not undergraduate to graduate) this does not include an institutions own graduate who enter for further education.

41 CARDIO & WEIGHT TRAINING The cardio training room contains 22 stateof-the-art cardio training machines, three 30” flat-screen TVs, a core training area, and a supplemental weight training area. The weight room is fully equipped with a variety of equipment to suit all levels of exercise and goals, from the weight machines to the loaded leg press. RACQUETBALL COURT & INDOOR TRACK The Tomball Fitness Center has an indoor track measuring approximately 1/10 of a mile per lap containing windows on all sides. This area provides a comfortable space to exercise while feeling as though one is outdoors. The Fitness Center also offers four racquetball courts with equipment available for checkout for participation at no cost! DANCE STUDIO, ROCK WALL & RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES LSC-Tomball has a one of a kind indoor rockclimbing wall that is open 11am -3 pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. We also have a dance studio which can be used for other various wellness activities. We also offer activities such as cornhole, wallyball, 3-on-3 basketball, and outdoor volleyball tournaments. OUTDOOR BASKETBALL & VOLLEYBALL COURT The LSC-Tomball Fitness Center also features an outdoor basketball court for students, employees, and the community. Whether you prefer the convenience of online learning, the interaction of face-to-face classes, or a blend of both, we have options to accommodate your needs. Lone Star College now has a variety of options for classes with expanded offerings of face-to-face classes while continuing to provide hybrid and online courses to meet student needs. LSC students will have three class options: in-person classes that take place entirely on campus; hybrid classes which are a combination of online and faceto-face learning; and online classes which provide a flexible and convenient choice for busy schedules and freedom to self-direct. HYBRID A combination of online and face-to-face learning, for the best of both worlds. ONLINE A flexible and convenient option for busy schedules and freedom to self-direct. FACE-TO-FACE Also known as in-person classes, these take place entirely on campus.

Students will have deadlines and may have requirements for online interactions during scheduled meetings. Students will engage in their class through myLoneStar, which will require students to have access to a computer and internet. ONLINE LIVE – SCHEDULED, ONLINE CLASS MEETINGS REQUIRED (OS) Online classes do not require students and faculty to be in the same room at any time during the course. However, in these sections, students will be required to block their schedule for real time, virtual meetings reflected in the section meeting times. While these meetings will be online, students should treat them like an in person class commitment. Students will engage in their class through myLoneStar, which will require students to have access to a computer and internet. HYBRID (H): BOTH IN-PERSON & ONLINE Hybrid classes combine the benefits of face-to-face interaction with the flexibility of online learning. Students attend oncampus sessions as per the schedule, supplemented by online components through myLoneStar. This mode offers a balanced approach, catering to diverse learning preferences. HYFLEX: HYBRID-FLEX HyFlex classes offer a flexible and inclusive learning environment where students can choose to attend sessions either in person or online via a video conferencing tool. During HyFlex sessions, both in-person and remote students can participate actively, engage in real-time discussions, and collaborate on projects with classmates. 49 FINANCIAL AID APPLICATION PROCESS LoneStar.edu/Financial-Aid-Steps Step 1: Complete a FAFSA Submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) through the U.S. Department of Education. Include the LSC school code (011145) on your FAFSA so that your information is sent to the college. Step 2: Provide Additional Documentation Approximately 30% of financial aid applications are selected for verification. This means that the Department of Education requires that you submit additional information to complete the financial aid awarding process. For more information: LoneStar.eclu/FA-Verify. Students who are selected for verification will be notified of any requirements via their LSC campus e-mail address. Step 3: Financial Aid Awarding Students must complete an admissions application before receiving a financial aid award (LoneStar.edu/Admissions-Application).
