51 NELNET INSTALLMENT PAYMENT PLAN INFORMATION The Lone Star College offers online installment payment plans only through the Lone Star College Payment Plan Management System. Here’s how enrolling in an installment payment plan online offers convenience and flexibility: • Enroll in a tuition and fees payment plan online excluding mini-mester classes and Summer semester classes • View a list of tuition and fee charges for the plan on your online budget worksheet • Make a payment online • Schedule automatic installment payments using a credit card, checking or savings account • Receive email reminders about upcoming payments • Receive email notifications as your plan adjusts for changes in enrollment • Set up authorized users to view payment information and make payments THREE-PEAT FEE Students will be charged an additional $60 per semester credit hour for attempting most credit courses for 3 or more times. Example: The student registers for English 1301 and receives an F (first attempt), the student registers for English 1301 and receives a W (second attempt). When the student registers for English 1301 for the third or subsequent time, the student will be charged $180 ($60 per semester credit hour) plus the regular tuition and fees for the course. The additional tuition charges can be paid with your financial aid awards if there is enough remaining money from your awards after your base tuition and all other institutional charges have been paid. Please remember that your financial aid eligibility is based on Standards of Academic Progress. Students may use the financial aid appeal process if necessary. The additional tuition will not be calculated in the cost of attendance estimates. 52 COURSE MANAGEMENT OFFICIAL DAY OF RECORD Refer to your course syllabus to attain Withdrawal/Drop Date/ Official Day of Record. Although you can drop classes until the official withdrawal date, refunds are only granted if a withdrawal request is submitted prior to dates included in the Refund Schedule. It is advised that you keep a copy of all final paperwork showing the drop from your schedule. Drops/withdrawals prior to the official date are not considered “dropped” courses and are not posted on the transcript. HOW TO DROP/WITHDRAWAL • Meet with Financial Aid representative • Bring schedule change form to Admissions It is recommended you consult with your class instructor before submitting a written withdrawal request. A completed Schedule Change form can be submitted in person on campus or emailed from your My LoneStar e-mail account. It is recommended that you speak with the Financial Aid or Veteran’s Affairs office if applicable before submitting your form. For e-mail, send the completed form to your campus Advising office. SIX-DROP RULE The state requires Texas public institutions to limit the total number of class withdrawals for each student to six. Withdrawals accumulate from all Texas public institutions a student attends, but do not include drops that occur on or before Official Day of Record. 53 FAMILY EDUCATIONAL RIGHTS AND PRIVACY ACT FERPA The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) was established to protect the privacy rights of all students. FERPA prevents the release of non-directory information held within education records. Directory information is defined in the Lone Star College Policy Manual (VI.G) as the student's name, classification, full or part-time enrollment, program of study, dates of enrollment, degrees and certificates received, and awards and honors received. The student has the right to refuse to let LSC designate any or all those types of information as directory information. WHAT ARE A STUDENT'S RIGHTS UNDER FERPA? FERPA gives eligible students certain rights regarding their education records including the following: 1. The right to inspect and review the student's education records within 45 days of the day that LSC receives a request for access. 2. The right to request amendments of the student's education records that the student believes are inaccurate, misleading, or otherwise in violation of the student's privacy rights under FERPA. 3. The right to provide written consent to disclosures of personally identifiable information contained in the student's education records, except to the extent that FERPA authorizes disclosure without consent. 4. The right to file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education concerning alleged failures by LSC to comply with the requirements of FERPA.
