Date : Monday, Feburary 27,2017
Grade : 4G1
My first time teaching made me extremely nervous because it
was my first time to teach all by myself. Dr.Yousef attended the
class, it was about guided reading, which the school specified
this class every Monday, that is a chance for students to
practice reading. I began with the starter and went on with the
lesson by passing the stories to the students. I was amazed by
how my students after reading the story started with the
activity without even telling them what to do. I concentrated
on the low achievers and gave them the fluency test. On
the other hand, I discovered a lot of mistakes I did that I
will put into consideration. Dr. Yousef at the end
gave me his feedback and told me where did I go
wrong which I really appreciate it.

Grade : 4G2

My second time teaching was much easier than the first time. I
got used to my students and so did they. I felt relaxed while
giving the lesson. The lesson was about grammar (comparative
and superlative). I prepared four activities and the students
worked in groups, I also presented two videos about the lesson
as a starter which was fun for the students. I prepared for them
an assessment worksheet just to make sure that my students got
the lesson and at the same time they can benefit from the
worksheet as a revision for their final exam. The class was easy
going and everything was great, but the only thing that I
suffered from was the time. The time was going so slow
that I had to give the students some extra work. However,
It seemed well organized that I was so happy for
myself. At the end of the class Dr. Yousef thanked
me which gave me a lot of motivation and
support.

Grade : 4G2

On this day I was comfortable and had no difficulties. I
practiced my lesson with other classes and made sure not to
repeat my weaknesses. When the clock hit 12:45, it was time
for me to start the class. Dr. Yousef came and attended my class
and the principal and assistant principal also wanted to attend,
but due to their meetings they could not manage to come. My
lesson was about spelling. I divide the class into 4 groups
and each group had an activity in which they would
rotate, and have a chance to participate in the 4
activities. I also prepared a fun plenary that made the
students enjoy the class. I managed to finish the
class on time exactly. I was so happy for such
improvement.

A Summary of Week (February 6-9)
Monday, February 6th, 2017, was my first day at The Gulf
International Private Academy School. They sent us to the HR, in order
to organize our schedule. After that they took us to the Assist Principal,
Mr. Mohamad Hassan, he welcomed us in a very respectful way and
made us feel as if its home. He explained all the procedures and took us
around the school for a tour. After that, He gave us the classes that we
will be observing for the week. The first class was with Mrs. Soma,
grade 6B2 it was a bit challenging to me because the teacher had
difficulty controlling the class. On Tuesday, February 7th, 2017, I
observed Grade 5B3 with Mr. Mohamad Shafi. The class was well
controlled and the techniques he used was amazing. He used
many resources and activities as well, which made the students
motivated more to learn. On Wednesday, February 8th,
2017, I observed Grade 4B1 with Mrs. Alaa. I really
liked the way she creates her starter just to

93

attract the students. She used the four skills all together. I also observed
Grade 8 boys with Mrs. Hajar, I really liked how the teacher was
stricked with time and she times every activity that she gives to the
student. She gave some time for discussion,
where all the class discuss what they have learned in the story. On
Thursday, February 9th, 2017, I observed a math class with Mrs.
Hadeel. She started the class by presenting a game online through the
projector and asked each student to log in through their iPad so that
they can all participate. I also observed Grade 6G2 with Mrs. Israa. It
was a useful class because I got a lot of ideas that I would never think
of. My first week of practicum was remarkable.

94

A Summary of Week (February 12-16)
This week was quite interesting because ADEC came for a visit and
stayed for 4 days to evaluate the school. It was a quite awesome
experience. I introduced myself to one of them, he was American and
was so glad to meet me as a trainee. The school was under stress,
especially the teachers so I helped them in organizing and preparing
the classroom as a shadow teacher. On Thursday, February 16th,2017,
was sports day so they took all the girl’s campus to the Hili
Archaeological Park so that they can enjoy their sports day there. I
went along with my students, grade 4. There were a lot of activities that
were prepared by the P.E. Teachers which was quite an amazing idea.
This trip made me spend more time to know more about my students.

95

A Summary of Week (February 19-23)
This week was challenging, since it was my first time teaching. Thanks
to my mentor teacher, Mrs. Alaa Samir that helped me during this
week. I started teaching grade 4 boys and girls. Moreover, I attended
with the special need class just to gain more experience and I
volunteered in helping the teachers with special need students. I also
had a talk with the social worker about some student’s misbehavior. On
Thursday, February 23,2017, was the Culture Day, where I took part in
different countries. I took my class grade 4G1 to the Culture Day so
that they could learn about different cultures and traditions. My week

was well spent.
