1.2 INTRODUCTION

The Confucius Insitute in Portoviejo is an educational institution whose offer includes learning both
language and Chinese culture.

It started in the month of November 2013 as an innovative proposal for citizenship whose wealth in
local culture makes is willing and open to cultural exchange.

The first students were attracted by a broadcast system very hard and organized, planning visits to
schools in the city, educational fairs, advertising in various media of the City and through social
networks; activities carried out in order to explain to the community about Chinese culture,
characters, pinyin, give detailed information about the courses and the benefits of studying in our
Institute.

Throughout these three years of operation they have been performed cultural events that have
managed to position the Centre for Chinese Language and Culture Portoviejo as the only benchmark
for education and exchange of both language and Chinese culture in the city.

2 ACADEMICS

In Ecuador, the Confucius Institute at the Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFQ), is the only one
of its kind.

One of the aims of the opening of the extensions of the Confucius Institute is that both language and
Chinese culture have a high range of national spread and globally, seeking that each of the students
are spokespersons high level of knowledge that are taught in classrooms and can put them in
developing them in each of the areas in which they operate practice.

As such, the internal policies of the Confucius Institute always seek to deepen the progress achieved
from year to year and articulating the learning opportunities and to implement the right to education
that we enjoy all Ecuadorians. It also carries out cultural exchange activities, which promote Chinese
culture, so that students and the community at large can gain the experience of experiencing the
traditions and history of China, so far as they can do so in person, through the scholarships are
awarded annually.

For this reason teaching is open to the entire community from the 7 years old and no age limits,
promoting the inclusion giving space to easily accessible areas without restrictions of any kind and
the educational system is structured in different ways, facilitating flexibly different stages of learning
and ensuring quality education with equity and justice that allows all involved to achieve the goals
and objectives required to complete their levels of study; factor that will allow them to acquire the
necessary measures to implement them in the world of labor and production capabilities.

2.1 STUDENTS

Currently has comfortable facilities divided into 4 classrooms (CP101 - CP102 - CP201 - CP202) with
an average capacity of 12 students per class, staff room (CP- 100), Kitchen (CP-103), Bathroom,
reading area and area Administrative Office.

The training area is made up of three full professors and 2 volunteer teachers; all Chinese native,
does not exist at the time any local teacher. The teachers meet an average of 16 hours per week
classes, including Saturdays

Our student population is 35 active students, not counting new students, reintegration of 2 students
from previous modules.

2.3 SCHOLARSHIPS

Students who earn Level I equivalent of five modules (240 hours), they can participate in proficiency
tests in Chinese HSK and HSKK, equivalent to TOEFL in English in order to participate in the
"scholarships Confucius Institute" to complement their studies of Chinese language and culture in the
short, medium and long term.

Scholarships available are:

• Grant four weeks

• Grant an academic semester

• Scholarship for an academic year

• Scholarship for Master of Teaching Chinese and other languages

Throughout these three years they have been awarded a total of 12 scholarships, estimating that 100%
of applicants who have applied, we had a total of 100% of scholarships; which it makes us feel very
proud of the level of knowledge attained and demonstrated by our students.

2.5 TEACHERS

Our Center began with three native teachers in 2013: Wang Yuan Yuan, Hong Meizi, Wang Jiayan; in
the following year three teachers; Zhang Li, Wang Dan, Hu Mengwen, and in this 2015 we have the
income of teachers: Wei Luxin, Hu Yifan, Kuang Xin Yi and Li Xiaoshan.

Currently the teaching area is composed of three regular professors Wang Yuan Yuan, Zhang Li,
Wang Dan and two volunteers: Li Xin Hu YI and Mengwen; all Chinese native, does not exist at the
time any local teacher. The teachers meet an average of 16 hours per week classes.

3 CULTURAL ACTIVITIES

3.1 ACTIVITIES

In July 2012 was invited the Director of the Confucius Institute in Ecuador, Ph.D. Jose Salazar
Carbonell, by the authorities of the Chamber of Commerce and University Portoviejo "San Gregorio"
to give a lecture on culture and business in China , people were very interested in learning more
about china. With this event we sought to start with the positioning of our Center and let us know
the community.

In October each year we participate in the Trade Fair Chamber of Commerce of Portoviejo, in this
event teachers have the opportunity to explain to people about Chinese culture, forms of
communication, relevant historical characters, and the administrative area provides information
about courses, costs, schedules and benefits of studying at our Center.

In December 2013 and early 2014 teachers and administrative staff of our center, participated in
schools and universities Portoviejo, attendees with teachers visited various academic institutions
such as Cruz del Norte High School, University of San Gregorio, School Jean Piaget, among others.
Through demonstration classes and interactive activities it will be able to capture the attention of
students of these institutions; many were registered and are now part of our students.

On September 19, 2013 we celebrate the Moon Festival our students spoke of this traditional festival
and our young students sang a song, parents and all attendees were delighted by these
presentations.

In September 2015 celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival was held, the event took place on the
premises of the Institute and the decor was alluding to date, trying to replicate the festive
atmosphere that traditionally lives in China. The intent of it was to integrate the Institute as a family
and interactive activities. We have the assistance of the Institute students and their parents and
special guests.

In this month took part in the competition of Chinese calligraphy 2015 Confucius Institutes in Latin
America, organized by the CRICAL, whose aim is to arouse the interest of students of Confucius
Institute for Chinese calligraphy, encourage the study of characters Chinese and spread the beauty of
Chinese calligraphy and our Center was attended by five students.

In October 2015 the presentation of the Choir of Nankai University was conducted in close
collaboration with the mayor of Portoviejo and the Chamber of Commerce, the event was in charge
as part of the festivities made to celebrate 11th anniversary of the Confucius Institute in the world
and 5th anniversary of the Confucius Institute - USFQ in Ecuador, coinciding with municipal activities
performed in honor of the 195 years of political independence of Portoviejo and being considered
within the official agenda of the activities of October, it was held in the Hall of events "Amadeus" , a
place that has been permanent headquarters of formal acts of that agenda.

Media: Portoviejo has a large media chain, called Ediasa, same as through their Radiodifusora "Radio
Friend," print media "El Diario" and TV station "Manavision" have covered acts we have done during
these years.

1 LOCATION OF THE CITY AND IMPORTANCE IN THE COUNTRY

The Confucius Institute currently operates on the campus of the Univesidad San Francisco de
Quito, Galapagos extension (GAIAS), is located in Puerto Baquerizo Moreno, San Cristobal
Island, at Av Alsacio Northia, beachfront Mann. This location gives you the privilege of having a
unique view, plus a pure and natural environment as the campus bordering areas of the
Galapagos National Park.

Getting to school is easy from anywhere in the city, since the distance from the center of it is
about 1.5 km.

The Confucius Institute began offering its services in 2010, with Chinese language classes for
the community in general and particularly for students of Liceo Naval San Cristobal; reaching
counted a total of 123 students in the period of one year this through an agreement with the
Ministry of Education.

For the following periods and under the same agreement, the Institute increased its number of
students gradually, because it had already attended other schools, (Col. Ignacio Hernandez and
Pedro Pablo Andrade School). This agreement finally concluded in 2014 but not before having
achieved a student of Liceo Naval San Cristobal obtain a scholarship to study this language at a
university in China.

Starting this year, the Confucius Institute offers its services to the Galapagos community with
group classes and customized installations of the Universidad San Francisco de Quito
Galapagos extension.



1.1 GENERAL INFORMATION OF SAN CRISTOBAL

Known as the capital of Paradise, San Cristobal is a warm island with about 8,000 inhabitants,
dedicated mainly to tourism, fishing, trade and work in public administration; here it is one of
the island airports, located five minutes from downtown Puerto Baquerizo Moreno on whose
seawall you can enjoy the presence of sea lions that often rest on the sidewalks, benches and
squares of the city.

San Cristobal is the headquarters of the Governing Council Special Regime for the Galapagos
Islands, an institution created for development planning in the province, since being in the
middle of a national park, special considerations and techniques for sustainable growth are
needed ; it is also in charge for migration control and civil registration.

85% of this island is a protected area of the Galapagos National Park, spectacular scenery here
guarding the geological history among its rocks are, San Cristobal is the oldest island of the
archipelago and the only one representative and permanent sources of freshwater. In addition
to all the wonders that can be found on land, including majestic beaches, this island has known
sites among the world's best snorkeling and diving; its waves are considered the best in the
region for the practice of bodyboarding and surfing which attracts visitors from around the
world come every year to enjoy the season

2.2 PROJECTIONS

According with the the number of students per period it can be concluded that there is a
greater number of people who are absent for school holidays; ie January to March. On the
other hand the opening of new modules is expected to meet the demand which would lead to
a gradual increase in students except for the holiday season. At this point it is important to
note that in the Confucius - Galapagos works one teacher; this would limit the number of
modules that could be open; the following projection is based solely on the interest shown by
the community and could imply the need for two teachers as this could be distributed to
students by age.

Taking into account these considerations and the apparent increase in the interest of the
population is estimated as follows:
