In the early 1970's, bell bottom pants and mismatched clothes were the
norm. Through the years, style has progressed (and in some cases, regressed) to
the colorful fashions of 1987.
At upper right, senior Amy Bales models some colorful added artwork on her
blouse. This trend in fashion allows students to become more individualized
with the different designs and patterns available in this style of clothing.
At immediate right, Ray Hays, also a senior, shows off a hairstyle popular in
the 1950's, the flat top, which has come to be popular once again. As the
saying goes, "What goes around, comes around."
On the opposite page, senior Jill Elza demonstrates how attractive colorful
patterns and an excellent sense of color coordination can make for a most
appealing outfit. The sweater that Jill Elza is wearing displays more of the
lovely artwork, while her pants also typify some of the off-beat designs worn in
1987.
Fashion is an ever changing process. An individual must possess taste, color-
coordination and the ability to determine what is "in" and what is not. The
class of 1987 at LCHS has mastered these skills and have done it in style!!!

Television has remained a mainstay in the lives of lCHS students
throughout the years. One of the most popular shows of the past seventeen
years was The Walton., laurel County's version of The Walton. includes
the tollowing: (top row,l to r) Kevin Elza as Grandpa leb Walton, Amy Gray
as Grandma Ester Walton, Kevin Brown as John Boy, Susan Cottongim as
Mama Olivia Walton, John Oavid Robinson as Oaddy John Walton (middle
row) Garon Searcey as Jim Bob, Craig McFadden as Ben, Keith Cottongim
as Jason (bottom row) Nicole Cox as Erin, Martha Bruner as Elizabeth, Lisa
Campbell as Mary Ellen.
Aseries that has enjoyed incredible success in the 1980's is Miami Vice.
Amajor source for the latest in fashion and music, Miami Vice has as its
stars, two of the most popular men in show business - Don Johnson and
Phillip Michael Thomas. With David Gibson as Thomas and Stephen
Roberts as Johnson, laurel County has a pair of guys who rival even the
stars of Miami Vice.

A normal characteristic of most Laurel
County High School students is a com-
petitive nature. No matter what type of
competition, whether competing with
other schools or among themselves, these
young men and ladies always put forth
their best effort.
Pageants are one way that the young
ladies have of competing with one an-
etther. Football Homecoming Queen, Miss
Laurel County High School, and Baske't-
ball Homecoming Queen - these are the
three titles coveted by the ladies. Kelli Gil-
bert (opposite page) was one of the candi-
dates for football Homecoming Queen.
Some young ladies choose to enter pag-
eants outside of Laurel County High
School, Amy Gray (below) will be com-
peting in the Kentucky preliminary of the
Miss National Teen pageant to be held at
Georgetown College, June 12-14.

I thank the many friends I have For all they do for me ... With their encouragement and
with Their faithful company They sympathize when I am sad They lift me when I
fall And they are always at my side To heed my beck and call Indeed they are the
truest friends . .. That anyone could find and that is why their faces are . .. Forever in my
mind . .. And that is why their special names Are ever in my heart . .. And why I treasure
them and hope That we shall never part I thank my friends eternally . .. Who are so
good and true And hope that I may serve them with . .. The deeds I try to do.

T he London-Laurel County area is thriving with
business and commerce. In past years, London has
grown in leaps and bounds in terms of its economic
development. A major reason for its rapid growth is its
strategic location on Interstate 75 between Lexington,
Kentucky and Knoxville, Tennessee.
A beautification project was completed recently in the
downtown area. It is hoped that this project will help to
compel other new businesses to locate in London. Major
structural redevelopment was done on both Cumberland
Valley National Bank and First National Bank (pictured
at left), both located on Main Street. They are now two of
the more modern and attractive buildings in the area. A
tourist information center was also completed in July of
1986. This center will provide both tourists and local
residents as well with valuable information about Lon-
don and the surrounding region.
Other businesses have also located in London; howev-
er, lack of space limits the amount of information we may
print. We safely can say that London is one of the most
promising and fastest growing cities in the great state of
Kentucky.
