Football Homecoming is always some-
thing special to the students and the faculty
at Laurel County High School. The 1986
Football Homecoming was one of the most
memorable in years. The football team's vic-
tory over Clay County made Homecoming a
time for real celebration.

Traditionally, Homecoming is full of pomp
and pageantry, and this year was no excep-
tion. The ladies were driven around the field
in Corvettes, TransAms, and classic Chevys
prior to the game. At half time, the contes-
tants along with their escorts were intro-
duced to the near-capacity crowd.

The 1985 Football Homecoming Queen,
Jennifer Stepp, crowned her successor,
Beth Ann Bowling. Beth Ann, pictured at
right with escort Jeff Stidham, is the daugh-
ter of Mr. and Mrs, Homer Bowling.

The Laurel County High School
Cafeteria has 12 employees. These
12 employees work every day to feed
approximately 1751 students. The
cooks commented about the
changes in the cafeteria over the last

17 years. "There is less help and

more work because we now have a
hamburger line. a lunch line. and a
salad bar. Also, we used to serve the
students instead of them serving
themselves: .

The Laurel County Cafeteria re-
ceives its necessary food items from
five different companies.

The cooks say that most of the
kids are nice and that very few of the
kids cause many problems. The ma-
jor problems the cooks have to deal
with are satisfying the students and
trying to put variety in the meals.

The high school cafeteria is head-
ed by the cafeteria manager, Mrs.
Willis. Mrs. Willis is originally from
SUblimity although she has served
many years at Laurel County High
School. Altogether she has been a

cook for 18 years.

Congratulations. Mrs. Willis on a
fine job by you and your staff of elev-

To the Student Body -
The Peppy Bunch was created two years

ago for the sole purpose of instilling peppi-
ness into you, not for providing homeroom
entertainment. We know in some ways that
we have touched your hearts (by ripping
them out with our song. right?!) and you have
definitely touched all of ours (by stomping
them in the ground after we sing!). We would
like to take this opportunity to thank all of you
for your endless support.

And don't forget ... Cardinals B. Goode.
Why? Because we love you!

Sincerely,
The Peppy Bunch

Beth Pratt, daughter of William and Peggy
Pratt, was the 1986 H.B.O.Y.

John Sherman Bruner and Sherri Ann Ham-
mons were chosen to represent Laurel County
in the Kentucky Farm Bureau Outstanding
Youth Competition against the other eight
counties in the 11 th District. They won the dis-
trict competition in October, 1986. John and
Sherri each received $25.00 or participating,
and $100.00 and a sterling silver bowl for win-
ning first place.

At state competition on December 11, 1986,
John competed against ten young men, and
Sherri competed against ten young ladies, who
represented the other ten districts in Kentucky.
The highest score possible was 100%, with
60% of the score based upon a personal inter-
view, and 40% based upon a stage interview
and question. All contestants received one
piece of American Tourister luggage for partici-
pating.

For the first time, a representative from the
11th District won the state competition. John
Sherman Bruner won the boys' competition,
making him the 1987 Kentucky Farm Bureau
Outstanding Youth. The prizes he received for
winning first place included the following: a
$1,000.00 scholarship to the college of his
choice, three pieces of American Tourister lug-
gage, a gold watch, and a trip to Washington,
D.C., on February 23-26, 1987, to attend the
