2018 - 2019 Hawthorne School Yearbook

LIFE SCHOOL STORY

Dear Vikings,

As another year draws to a close, we have much to celebrate and many happy memories to reflect upon.
Hawthorne is a school rich in history and has a legacy of excellence. Our faculty and support staff have
worked tirelessly to ensure a great year filled with rich learning experiences for all students. The academic
experiences as well as social-emotional support with a focus on relationships has resulted in a rewarding
school year. It has been my pleasure to be a part of the journey as the students learned about themselves,
others, and the world.

What a wonderful year. Besides academic achievements, we had a blast at our school-wide events. At
Pajamarama, Mr. Waters wore shark pajamas and read his favorite Dr. Seuss book, Green Eggs and Ham. We
raised approximately $5,000 for Kids Heart Challenge. Friends of Hawthorne kicked off at the Fun Run, which
was extra special thanks to the LA Galaxy. Elementary and Middle School Student Councils sold holiday grams
and kindness grams, planned pajama days, movies and and hosted a basketball tournament. For the first time
we took all the Middle School students off campus for a one-day WOLF Trip. At Big Bear some 8th graders
saw snow for the first time and at CIMI the 7th graders froze while snorkeling in the Pacific Ocean. There
were 15 different countries represented at Multicultural Day in March. There was the Halloween parade,
winter concert, Middle School Musical and the list goes on and on. Every special event was an opportunity to
bask in the greatness of our school community.

I want to give a huge thank you to our entire parent volunteer community. At Hawthorne, we believe that the
school staff and our families form a vital team. It is important to acknowledge that every parent contributes
to the success of our students and to our school as a whole. When parents come together as PTA, Friends of
Hawthorne or BHEF those contributions magnify. The year would not have been the same without all of your
support and encouragement.

To our 5th, 6th and 7th grader students, you will be the first group of Beverly Vista Middle School students,
take with you all you have learned and all you have experienced. You have redefined Viking and made it your
own. As you head on to a new campus for a new school experience, embrace all the excitement of the
adventure. Take on the Green and the Bulldog Pride with a full heart. We at Hawthorne will always bask in
your glory and take pride in your wins.

To the final group of Hawthorne 8th graders, it is my honor to say congratulations one last time. As you go on
to Beverly Hills High School or other schools around the city, I hope you take with you your values and
relationships you have developed at Hawthorne. As the last 8th grade class, it has been my honor to teach
you and to learn from you. I know you will do great things in the years ahead.

Each year we say goodbye with a twinge of sadness and a heart full of joy for things yet to come. We will do it
all over again, but this time will be different. When we return in August, we will embrace our rich history as
we move forward toward a new identity. Every new start brings new challenges and ways to improve and we
all get better and better each time!

I am excited to see what fantastic things lay ahead for each of you and for Hawthorne School.

Thank you for a wonderful year,
Sarah Kaber
Principal, Hawthorne School
