Mrs. Schmidt was first an
attorney while her
husband was the teacher.
She wanted to have the
same schedule as her kids
so she started subbing for
her husband. She loved it
so much that she became
a teacher. Mrs. Schmidt
has 2 sons. She loves
going to the movies. And
she loves teaching all her

This is our first year of having the Makerspace!
Makerspace is a place where kids develop their
knowledge in Science, Technology, Engineering,
ART and Math through projects that require them
to design and build prototypes to solve problems.
Students work in teams and develop real world
collaborative skills while having fun testing and
learning from their creations.

Hawthorne's second annual Fun Run hosted by the PTA
was a great success. It was sponsored by LA Galaxy and
other local organizations. In addition, students registered
and raised funds to support their school by finding people
who will donate money for them to run a mile. The day
was filled with fun with many activities including bounce
houses, martial arts and cardboard playground.

Hawthorne's annual week-long Book Fair was
awesome this year. Through the support of the PTA,
students were given multiple opportunities to
purchase books and other goodies. In addition, we
had three guest authors who came to speak about
their books. The Book Fair contributes to our strong
culture of reading at Hawthorne!
