CLUB SERVICE Avenue

The Club Service Avenue successfully concluded its term with a series of impactful projects and unwavering dedication from its members. We completed a total of six projects throughout the year, including the 14th Installation, Peasanam Phase 1 Diwali and Phase 4 Vesak, Christinzel’23, Rota Wasantha Udanaya’24, Queen and the Final Monthly General Meeting. Additionally, the avenue is currently finalizing service letters and conducting the Final Monthly General Meeting for May. March and April focused on the successful completion of Rota Wasantha Udanaya’24 on April 27th, 2024. The project partnered with TV Derana as the Official Media Partner and Official Gift Partner, along with PEPSI Sri Lanka (Officially Beverage Partner), Sri Lanka Telcom PLC (Official Gift Partner), and Hayleys PLC (Bronze Partner). This collaborative effort, driven by the dedication of the Organizing Committee, aimed to promote peace and cultural understanding within the community, strengthen fellowship among members, and raise awareness about the Rotaract movement. The event attracted 100 to 150 undergraduate participants and featured 15 games, with some cancellations due to rain. A highlight was the Rota Wasantha Kumara Kumari’24 pageant. Participants received valuable gifts, and Derana offered gift hampers for Facebook selfies exceeding 50 likes. The event's impressive decorations, including a welcome entrance, village house, and backdrop, further enhanced the experience. A fantastic DJ concluded the successful event. Chronicle Edition 4 10

The project successfully concluded on May 14th, 2024. Service letters were distributed to members via email, and the Monthly General Meeting was held on May 26th, 2024, at the Home Tree Co Working Space in Bambalapitiya. Their commitment and teamwork have ensured a successful and impactful term.

COMMUNITY SERVICE Avenue

This quarter, the Community Service Avenue of the Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya made great progress with their major initiative, Project Ignite ஸ்ரீ ලං කා . The long-term project aims to uplift underdeveloped rural villages holistically by focusing on six key areas: economy and entrepreneurship, agriculture, clean water, education, healthcare, and youth and women empowerment. For this inaugural year, the club zeroed in on the Giribawa Division's villages of Thammannawa and Kokmaduwa. These remote villages with low incomes were in desperate need of development support. However, before launching any activities, the dedicated Rotaractors spent months thoroughly studying these villages. They made numerous field visits to closely understand the local way of life and pinpoint the most pressing issues. After this extensive groundwork, the Rotaractors rolled up their sleeves and got to work. One of the first major initiatives was an insightful Palmyrah workshop on April 2nd. To make this economic empowerment program a success, club members travelled all the way to Jaffna to collaborate with the Palmyrah Development Board. The experts then visited the villages to guide residents on tapping into sustainable business opportunities using this natural resource. The agriculture section also played an important role, actively working to improve farming and increase income for the rural communities. Their efforts focused on teaching villagers new and better farming methods, helping them get access to resources like tools and seeds, and looking at different crop options that are sustainable while setting the foundation to build a well to provide water for their crops. Chronicle Edition 4 13

Improving education facilities was also crucial. Club members initiated the process of building a new classroom and renovating a library at Kokmaduwa Siddhartha Primary School. And members donated educational materials and sports materials to create an enriching learning environment for students. In addition, two photocopy machines were donated to the aforementioned schools by partnering with the Dilmy Ranaweera Foundation and screened a film called ‘මෙ හෙ මත් දේ ශයක්’ which is produced by the SLICCF Foundation in the event day by gathering all the students, teachers and parents of the schools. Chronicle Edition 4 14 Moreover, the project ‘Green Sri Lanka’, the Shramadana campaign organized at Adam’s peak was successfully concluded on the 18th and 19th of May with the collaboration of Zero Plastic movement of University of Kelaniya. The final physical Meetup of Community Service Avenue and the Final OC meeting of project Ignite ஸ்ரீ ලං කා were also profoundly touching moments that left our hearts full and memorable this quarter. To celebrate their impactful service journey this past year, the community service avenue held a special Documentary Premiere event at Home Tree co-working space, Bambalapitiya. The event honored the hard work of Rotaractors, sponsors, and others who made initiatives like Swabasadhura, Jingle Bells, and Project Ignite ஸ்ரீ ලං කා a reality. This quarter marked just the beginning of Project Ignite ஸ்ரீ ලං කා 's mission to create lasting positive change. The sheer passion, determination and grassroots spirit of these Rotaractors are revitalizing rural communities and inspiring hopes for a brighter future across the nation.

INTERNATIONAL SERVICE Avenue

Every year is a period of time which guides humankind to write their own stories of success. As passionate Rotaractors of the International Service Avenue of the Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya, we always reflect on the ways in which we can make this statement a reality. Hence, this is the glorious moment to go back to the past and celebrate the immense contribution of the IS avenue to make the fourth quarter of the Rotary International year 2023-24 victorious! Its glorious commencement was marked by “We Care”, a joint humanitarian initiative with the Rotaract Club of Izmir Ekonomi, Turkey in order to complete the twin club agreement. Hence, the organizing committee of the IS avenue of RACUOK was able to donate the essential stationery to selected 40 primary students from Dharmaraja College, Mahara Nugegoda on 5th of April, 2024. As achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) plays a dominant role in every initiative, SDG 4 which secures inclusive and equitable quality education, was covered successfully. At the same time, highlighting the importance of serving various communities, the Rotaract Club of Izmir Ekonomi was also able to donate the necessary goods to the needy with the support of Lamia Karaer Primary School in Izmir. Chronicle Edition 4 17 The completion of “We Care” led to organizing another remarkable virtual event for Dhaara 2.0 on 6th of April, 2024. Thus, an awareness session on gender equality was initiated by the organizing committee of RACUOK. As the speaker of the event, Ms. Nilupama Wickramage, Assistant Lecturer from the Department of English Language Teaching, University of Kelaniya, educated the audience with the importance of gender equality in the contemporary society. Thus, it marked the commendable contribution of the RACUOK to initiate Revitalized Dhaara 2.0.

Chronicle Edition 4 18 Opening another chapter, the Second Joint General Meeting with the Rotaract Club of Izmir Ekonomi was held on 10th of April, 2024. During those hours, the most remarkable moment was exchanging twin club agreements between the two clubs. In addition, both clubs announced their ongoing and upcoming initiatives which can serve various communities in numerous ways. Hence, this has brought another achievement to the IS avenue of RACUOK. Moving forward, the concluding ceremony of Dharaa 2.0 was held virtually on 16th of April, 2024 and it allowed the hosting clubs to present their successful initiatives to the audience. Therefore, the dedication of the Rotaract Club of PDEU and the Rotaract Club of Galgotia was clearly shown. Before the end of the fourth quarter of RI year 2023- 24, the International Service Avenue of RACUOK was able to organize another successful event. However, it was decided to be an initiative which allows avenue members to take part physically. Therefore, Cric’Eve was introduced . As a collaborative effort with the Rotaract Club of Thane East, a cricket match was held on 28th of April, 2024. Here, one specific point should be made on planning the event. After appointing an organizing committee, managing the time had to be done. Hence, with the immense support from some volunteers, the event was concluded triumphantly.

Writer Rtr. Ruvinath Uyangoda Chronicle Edition 4 19 In conclusion, this summarizes the ways in which the International Service Avenue of RACUOK contributed to the success of the fourth quarter of RI year 2023-24. In addition, it encourages future IS members to explore novel paths to take the avenue to the next step towards victory!

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT Avenue

Chronicle Edition 4 21 The fourth quarter of the Professional Development Avenue was all about overcoming challenges and achieving milestones of Project Abhiman. The organizing committee was pushing through the barriers and implementing their strategies throughout the phase. With a focus on data accuracy, strategic planning, and collaborative efforts, we laid the groundwork for a prestigious award ceremony, setting a new standard in Rotaract history. As the organizing committee embarked on this project, we faced several challenges, but our determination ensured the successful identification of top social media influencers in Sri Lanka. The silver package from Social Blade was used to analyze the industry trends. With this new subscription, our team gained access to the top 500 YouTube channels, and the top 100 Instagram and TikTok accounts in Sri Lanka. The top five nominees for each category were selected through various metrics, including the past 30-day Social Blade rank, average subscriptions, followers, and view counts, to identify the most popular nominees for the research survey among Sri Lankan undergraduates using the statistical data. This enabled us to initiate a comprehensive data collection plan through the members, who were assigned to collect necessary data via surveys from undergraduates at other universities. We also calculated the average number of subscribers and view counts for the YouTube categories using the z-score marker. For TikTok and Instagram categories, we determined the average number of followers and likes by manually searching each nominee's data on Social Blade. Our team visited State universities to collect survey data. For universities that couldn't be reached physically, we used our personal contacts to gather the necessary responses. We aimed for a minimum of 384 responses from undergraduates of 23 State Universities under University Grants Commission from multiple faculties, and once this goal was reached, the final data was analyzed. The top three nominees in each category were selected and authorized by the panel of Lecturers from the Department of Mass Communication. After thorough reviews by the panel of judges, the project officially concluded.

Chronicle Edition 4 22 Writer Rtr. Piyumi Athukorala Our organizing committee members strategically laid out the groundwork for the award ceremony through research and fundraising events. Despite encountering various challenges, including data collection and nominee selection, the project persevered, leveraging expertise from academic and industry professionals. The power of these efforts has resulted in the successful identification of nominees across diverse categories and the completion of data collection from university undergraduates. As the project transitions into the next phase, anticipation builds for the official and prestigious award ceremony. This event will mark a significant milestone in Rotaract history under the next Rotaract Year.

SPORTS & RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES Avenue

Chronicle Edition 4 24 As we come to the end of the Rotaract year, we have experienced many accomplishments and challenges. It has been a year of growth and learning. However, we must acknowledge that despite our best efforts, we were unable to hold Rotrallia '23 due to unforeseen circumstances. In light of this situation, we are currently in the process of refunding the money to all those who had purchased tickets. To support the refund process and cover any associated costs, we have planned a car wash as a fundraising activity. We hope that through this initiative, we can turn a challenging situation into a positive experience, reinforcing our commitment. Writer Rtr. Hashini Bandara

EDITORIAL Avenue

Chronicle Edition 4 26 Time flips through the figures when you commit to challenging the time. Editorial Avenue, one of the technical avenues, has worked tirelessly throughout the years, 24/7. As the final quarter arrives, with the conclusion of most projects in the RI year, the finalizing process tightened up until the last day. As usual, Editorial Avenue has published special day articles and creative write-ups on a monthly basis for the entire year. We have diligently given approvals and completed all tasks, including the publication of quarterly newsletters in Sinhala, Tamil, and English. In this final quarter, the Editorial Avenue achieved remarkable milestones, contributing to the legacy of RACUOK. The dedication and hard work of the team have ensured the seamless flow of words and ideas, maintaining the high standards expected of us. Additionally, we did a Public Relations initiative - "Click 2.0," a short film competition based on the theme of mental health. We also opened a new segment called "Tale Trail," where all the Editorial Avenue members collaboratively write stories during the year. Surpassing 970 articles on the blog page showcases our consistent and impactful content creation. Publishing quarterly newsletters in multiple languages ensures inclusivity and reach. Continuing to write and publish special day articles celebrates important events and milestones.

Chronicle Edition 4 27 The Editorial Avenue concludes this quarter with pride, knowing that our efforts have created a lasting impact. Writer Rtr. Rabiha Naushad

DIGITAL MEDIA Avenue

Overall, the team at Digital Media Avenue understands the power of digital media and uses it to make a significant impact in our community and beyond. Chronicle Edition 4 29 The Digital Media Avenue is where our Rotaract Club’s digital creativity thrives. Our avenue is crucial for our design efforts and is home to our most creative members. It's also one of the busiest and most active parts of our club. We launched a project called "Graphify" to teach graphic design skills through workshops. The goal was to equip our members with essential graphic design skills through a series of engaging sessions. Unfortunately, we had to cancel the second workshop, scheduled for April, due to a strike at the university. The Digital Media Avenue is full of talented individuals dedicated to promoting our club’s activities. We create custom birthday flyers for each Rotaractor and design special flyers for social celebrations like World Health Day, International Labour Day, and Vesak Day. These flyers include inspiring messages and eye-catching graphics to encourage positive action. Writer Rtr. Dulith Silva

FINANCE Avenue

Chronicle Edition 4 31 In the final quarter of the RI year 2023-24, the Finance Avenue of the Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya has been bustling with a variety of significant activities. One of our primary tasks has been distributing member T-shirts to all club members, ensuring that everyone receives their new apparel. Alongside this, we have also reviewed the finance reports for many projects including the projects of RotaTomorrow 4.0 initiative, conducting thorough checks to ensure accuracy and transparency in the financial dealings. Furthermore, we have been diligently working to maintain the balance in the club's accounts, carefully managing expenses and revenues. These efforts are crucial in effectively overseeing the club's financial health and providing financial support to our members. Writer Rtr. Sapna Sewmini

Chronicle Edition 4 33 The IT Avenue of the Rotaract Club of the University of Kelaniya has successfully concluded another impactful and eventful quarter. This period was highlighted by the grand success of the Ludicon Inter-University E-sport Championship 2024, where we managed all payments and awarded cash prizes to the winners. Apart from the thrill of the e-sport competition, we were proud to have put together an in-depth report on the occasion. From the exciting matches until the victors' announcement, every moment was caught in this thorough documentation, providing a comprehensive picture of the event's success and our organizational excellence. Our dedication to quality extended beyond the title. We took care of our blog and website as usual, making sure they were educational, aesthetically pleasing, and kept up to date. We made an effort to keep our audience updated about our operations, accomplishments, and future projects with frequent updates and interesting content. This quarter has demonstrated our steadfast commitment to encouraging creativity, involvement in the community, and quality within the Rotaract Club.
