Talentzia”, which was organized by the Rotaract Club of IIT, was a ACHIEVEMENTS

competition that allowed performers to showcase their dancing and
singing skills through a virtual platform.

Our warmest congratulations to Rtr.
Dewmini Fernando who represented
RACUOK in the Semi Finals of Talentzia and
was selected for the Finals. Good Luck on
your finals!
“I took part in the singing category of
Talentzia. I was immensely happy and
honoured to represent my club in that
competition and furthermore to enter the
Finals of it.”

Our warmest congratulations to Rtr. Yasiru
Thanthirige who represented RACUOK at

singing a song. Then I got selected to the

The Club Service Avenue plays a significant role in the Rotarct Club of

University of Kelaniya. Their journey for the RI year 2022-23 has been
initiated with the thirteenth Installation Ceremony as the first project of
the avenue.

The thirteenth installation ceremony
which is an event of paramount
importance to the club, was
successfully held on the 11th of
September 2022 at the Management
auditorium of the University of
Kelaniya. The president Rtr.Manula
Pethiyagoda and the board members
were officially installed for the year 22-
23.

This event was glorified with the honorable presence of Senior Prof.
Sudath Kalingamudali, Dean of the Faculty of Science in University of
Kelaniya as the chief guest and Rtn. Delan Silva, who is the current
President of the Rotary Club of Colombo Uptown as the guest of honour
along with other dignitaries honouring the event with their presence.
This was a spectacular event that was successfully held with the support
of the members of the OC.

Thereby, this marks the journey of the Club Service Avenue so far and
many more are on its way.

The Community Service Avenue is one

of the significant avenue of the Rotaract
Club of University of Kelaniya, which
provides gratifying opportunities for the
betterment of the community. "Elevate
Sri Lanka" is a project initiated this year
by the Rotaract Club of the University of
Kelaniya. The project “Elevate Sri Lanka”
aims to uplift the Sri Lankan
motherland economically and
financially. This project will focus on four main sections which are the
Dollar Crisis, Energy Crisis, Fertilizer Issue and Tourism. The organizing
committee for the project "Elevate Sri Lanka" was appointed on the 1st of
August 2022. Since there are four distinct divisions, each researches to
determine the most effective responses to the related issues.
Moreover, the Community Service avenue initiated a new project,
"Pansala" mainly focusing on facilitating the educational needs of school
students. This project is planned to be implemented as two phases. The
first phase is to select a few schools from rural areas and educate them,
focusing on their O/Ls. After selecting families struggling to facilitate their
children's education, the project plans to implement a scholarship
program in the second phase, providing stationary for a year or
sponsoring for a higher education course. The organizing committee of
the project "Pansala" was appointed on the 1st of August 2022. Moreover,
the responsible members of the project "Pansala" have selected the six
most suitable schools for implementing the project.

Furthermore, gathered

started executing the ER plan

for the project.

The project "E-Kathandara" is a

joint project with other

Roatarct clubs. This project

aims to distribute internet

access free of charge for small

schools and orphanages. It is

expected to target the SDG of Quality Education. The other Roatarct

clubs which joined hands with this project are the Rotaract Club of Pearl

Island, Rotaract Club of Kelaniya, Rotaract Club of Kandy Metropolitan

and the Roatarct Club of KDU South. Moreover, the process involves

covering the area around Colombo and fulfilling the requirements of

schools with children who could benefit from this project and give

access and teach them how to use e-books. The organizing committee of

project" E-Kathandara" was appointed on the of 30th July 2022. The

project currently has finalized two

schools to execute the project and

is currently waiting to access the

relevant materials.

BOND BEYOND BOUNDARIES.

Letterhead Exchange

B eing the International Service Avenue of the Rotaract Club of University of

Kelaniya, the avenue initiated its mission to reach the international community,

strengthening bonds beyond boundaries. A number of letterhead exchanges

were done to buildup connections between other Rotaract clubs worldwide.

Edition One began letterhead exchange as the first
task of the avenue for the RI year 2022-
23. The first letterhead exchange was
successfully done between the
Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya
and the Rotaract Club of Dubarmarg
strengthening the relationship
between the tow clubs. Secondly, the
Rotaract club of UOK swapped
letterheads with the Rotaract Club of
Kirtipur Nepal. Thirdly the Rotaract
club of the university of Kelaniya
exchanged letterheads successfully
with the Rotaract Club of Aurangabad
Airport. Next, the avenue exchanged
letterheads with the Rotaract club of
Nabha Greater. And undoubtedly many
more letterhead exchanges are to be
conducted along the journey of
connecting with Roatarct Glubs across
the globe.

BREATHTAKING PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST.

N ext inline was the Breathtaking Photography Contest which was a joint

project, as the Rotaract Club of Daffodil International University in
Bangladesh invited the International Service avenue of RACUOK to take part
in the project.
The competition was held along with the celebration of the world
photography day. The competition was held based on both mobile and
camera photography categories. The club launched a huge PR campaign to
cover the project. The closing date of the competition was 16th of August,
and the project had 600+ submissions when the deadline arrived. The award
ceremony of the Breathtaking Photography contest was held on the 19th of
August 2022 with members of host clubs and co-host clubs. Mr. Ehsanul
Siddiq Aranya, a software engineer and a gold medalist photographer in
Bangladesh, judged the incredible photos. Sriram Rajewaran from the
Rotaract Club of SLIIT became the winner of the mobile photography
category, whereas Chamika Manathunga became the winner of the camera
photography category.

Why is this significant? On one hand, this becomes significant as this is
the very first project that the club completed under the International
Service Avenue. On the other hand, this is the first project the Rotaract
club of the University of Kelaniya completed in the Rotaract year
2022/2023.

The objective of the contest is to develop the creativity of Rotaractors.
The contest was open to all talented Rotaractors interested in image
arts. This turned out to be a fantastic opportunity for all the interested
parties.

HYBRID CONFERENCE.

A dditionally, the hybrid conference is the first project the which was

initiated under the International Service Avenue of the Rotaract Club of
the University of Kelaniya.
Implementing the project, the hybrid conference was introduced to the
members of the Rotaract Club of the University of Kelaniya. This will
allow the members to have a new experience of connecting with the
world. Further, updates with more information will be sent out through
upcoming articles.
Many more outstanding initiatives by the International Service avenue
is to take place in the near future.

The Professional Development Avenue of the Rotaract Club of University

of Kelaniya has had a progressive three months with many projects

being organized. Described below are those events which were

organized by the Avenue.

The first avenue meeting of the

Professional Development Avenue

was held virtually via Zoom on the

26th of July 2022. The agenda of

the meeting included an

introduction to the Professional

Development Avenue and its

purpose, followed with a

discussion about the first

upcoming project which was

project ‘Spectrum’. The

recruitment of the Organizing

Committee for the above project was done afterwards.

Also, on the 26th of July 2022, two forms were circulated among the
members of the avenue, where one form was the application to join the
Organizing Committee and the other was a mandatory form based on
identifying the skills of the members of the avenue and to bring them out
in future projects

The month of August was a busy one
with the project ‘Spectrum’ coming up.
On the 1st of August 2022 applications
were opened for the digital artists
inside and outside the club for the
project ‘Spectrum.’ The Organizing
Committee for the project ‘Spectrum’
was finalized and they were introduced
to the avenue on the 3rd of August. The
first meeting for the Organizing
Committee was held virtually on the
5th of August with the participation of
all the newly appointed committee
members. At the meeting the
members were introduced to their
positions and roles. Also, the members
were presented with a brief
understanding of the NFT Market.

Also, during the month of August, as
an initiative to raise funds for the
projects ahead followed by Spectrum,
pin badges which contained the
slogan “The Unrivaled Legacy :
University of Kelaniya” were sold at
the University premises. This fund
raiser was promoted by circulating a
flyer through WhatsApp.

On the 28th of August a NFT
Awareness session was conducted
for the members of the
Professional Development Avenue
so that they could gain a better
understanding of the project
Spectrum.

The members of the Professional
Development Avenue met
physically on the 29th of August
2022 at the University premises
for an avenue meeting which

targeted at discussing about the documentary release event of Spectrum
and also to discuss about further fund-raising projects as well as finding
sponsorships. The meeting was a great opportunity for the members to
meet each other in person.

Another virtual meeting took place on the
29th of August for the members of the
Tourism sector run by the Professional
Development Avenue to discuss on the
project ‘Elevate Sri Lanka.’ The main tasks of
the members were assigned and explained

at the meeting. Under the project ‘Elevate Sri Lanka’ by the Tourism sector,
districts were divided among the members for the website and team
leaders were appointed. Also, research templates were handed over to
each team.

The Organizing Committee of Spectrum had a meeting in September to
discuss about the project timeline, sponsorships, the agenda, documentary
video finalizing and also to plan the documentary release event. The
second physical meeting of the Organizing Committee of Spectrum was
held on the 23rd of September with the participation of the Committee
Members. The main focus of the event was the documentary release event
day.

Accordingly the Professional Writer
Development Avenue has had a Rtr. Chavin
progressive three months as Kingston Fernando

The Sports and Entertainment Avenue

of the Rotaract Club of University of
Kelaniya has had a three-month period
full of excitement. As always, the Sports
and Entertainment Avenue has ensured
to keep the members of the club
engaged in several projects which are
enthusiastic and full of ecstasy.

The avenue had its first physical meeting during the first quarter. During
the physical meeting, the members of the avenue looked into the most
viewed Tik Tok videos in the Rotaract Club. Also, this was an opportunity
for the members of the avenue to meet each other in person after some
time which was a great thing.

Other than the physical meet up Avenue meetings were held through
the virtual platform of Zoom.

The project ‘Spotlight’ a musical competition organized mainly by the
Sports and Entertainment Avenue is a magnificent platform for the
Rotaractors from all over the country to showcase their talents.

Secondly, the avenue also in the process of organizing the biggest event
in the club history of the Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya,
‘Rotrallia’ a musical concert which is mainly organized by the Sports and
Entertainment Avenue along with Finance Avenue, which will be held on
the 13th of November 2022 at the Dharmaloka Main Hall. The famous
musical band ‘Wayo’ will be live in concert at this event

With the ultimate aim of beginning the most revolutionary event of the
Rotaract history of RACUOK, the recruitment of the Organizing
Committee started on 24th of July 2022, and a google form was
circulated among the members for two days and on the 26th of July
2022, the recruitment application was closed.

On the 11th of August 2022, the official organizing committee was
announced after a well evaluated interviewing process with the
applicants and the initial preparations began for the music
extravaganza, “Rotrallia”
The first organizing committee meeting for project “Rotrallia” was held
successfully via Zoom on 26th August 2022 and arranged several
physical meetups to discuss and work on the initial preparations of the

project and all of the meetings were
successfully held.
In addition, the theme of the musical
concert was decided as “Kingdom” and
awareness flyers, logo revealing, teaser
trailers of the event were shared in the
social media platforms of RACUOK and
gained a wide reach.

The Editorial Avenue is where the art of words is experimented to the

fullest with creativity and insightfulness. Since the beginning of the new
RI year 2022-23, this avenue has had the busiest first quarter. Here’s a
glimpse on the three-month journey of the Editorial Avenue.
The month of July began with the new members being assigned to the
official WhatsApp group of the Editorial Avenue and was warmly
welcomed which followed by the members introducing themselves and
getting to know each other. To add in a warmup to this voyage of the
editorial, a word game was conducted via WhatsApp where the members
actively participated reaching a word submission of more than hundred.
What an amazing start it was!
On the 25th of July 2022 the Induction meeting of the Editorial Avenue
was held via Zoom. The meeting went along the ‘Ice age’ theme and had
many entertaining games organized to enhance member engagement.
Further the members were provided a comprehensive insight on the
tasks, duties and procedures of the avenue and also highlighted on the
significance of the official Blog page of the Rotaract Club of University of
Kelaniya.

Following the first avenue meeting, on
the 26th of July 2022 applications were
exclusively opened for the members of
the Editorial Avenue to join the sub
teams within the avenue namely, the
Article Writing Team. Caption Writing
Team and the Translations Team. Upon
evaluation the members were allocated
to the teams and began their roles in the
respective team.

From the 1st of August onwards the
Special Day captions, translations and
articles were sent out all amazingly
written by the members of the avenue,
who took up all upcoming special days
with much enthusiasm. The special days
list of the month of September was also
respectively sent out during the month
where members dedicatedly volunteered
to complete the task of writing them. All
special days during the first quarter was
successfully covered with creative
captions and insightfully penned articles
which were made more spectacular with
the fabulously designed flyers by the
Digital Media Avenue. All of the articles
were published in the Official Blog page
of RACUOK.

The Creative Corner of the Blog
was opened for all Rotaractors
of the Rotaract Club of
University of Kelaniya to
submit their creative writings
on any topic and language of
their preference. A number of
unique piece of arts were
received and published during
the first quarter.

The month of September was also more significant as the Organizing
Committee Applications for the project Click; the first project of the
Editorial Avenue for the RI year 2022-23 was opened and the Organizing
Committee was appointed during the month. On the 21st of September
2022 the OC members officially began their roles in the team, beginning
the journey of Click.

The first quarter of the RI year 2022-23 hence began with much
excitement and expectations to establish another successful year for the
Editorial, providing its fullest effort to make RACUOK shine!

T he Club Relations Avenue is

one of the most distinguished
avenues of the Rotaract Club of
University of Kelaniya that
seeks to build and foster
mutually beneficial connections
among the members of the
club while establishing an
enhanced bond among clubs.

The avenue commenced its first project of the year, the “Writing Maze”,
which is a collective writing initiative executed with the involvement of
twenty-two other Rotaract Clubs island wide including the District 3220
Sri Lanka and Maldives. The organizing committee of the project was
recruited in August and the writing process was officially initiated in
September. By the end of September, three chapters were successfully
completed.

Moreover, the Club Relations

Avenue has also started working on

the TSL project which is the district

cluster initiative. Further,

applications for CR coordinators

were also sent out in order to

gather the best potentials of the

avenue.

Thus, the Club Relations Avenue of

RACUOK has been contributing to

the betterment of the club and

aims to enhance its output in the

future as well.

D igital media has enhanced much of the

magic and mystery of the digital medium. The
Digital Media Avenue is one of the most active
and creative avenues of the Rotaract Club
where creativity of members is displayed. The
avenue is responsible for a large portion of work.
When it comes to the avenue calendar, they
held their very first avenue meeting on the 4th
of August to buckle up to initiate the journey
towards a digital space. Here, everyone
expressed their views with great enthusiasm
and discussed the future work and it was a
remarkable day for the avenue. One of the most
special days in everyone’s life is their birthday.
So, creating a flyer without any fail on the
birthday of each and every member of the club
is very appreciable mission done by this Digital
Media Avenue.
Further, the Digital Media Avneue created
outstanding flyers for each special day for the
months of July, August and September.
The avenue held a wonderful session on the
14th and 15th of September to provide the
avenue members with a wealth of knowledge
about flyer designing and video editing. The
enthusiastic members took part in the session
which further enhanced their knowledge with
regards to the above.
