MESSAGE FROM THE SECRETARY Chronicle E d i t i o n T h r e e
Chronicle E d i t i o n T h r e e MESSAGE FROM THE SECRETARY eginning the second half of the Rotaract Year, we at RACUOK had a steady rhythm ongoing in terms of the projects we did and the engagement of our members. This quarter saw the completion of five extremely impactful projects in terms of Club Service, Community Service, Sports and Recreational Activities and International Service. One of the highlights of the quarter was the beginning of the “Rotatomorrow 3.0”, one of the signature projects of the club, focused on membership development and retention. Our community impact in this quarter extended not only to all corners of the country, but also to the international community. We were able to spread happiness, love and bring smiles to the faces of the people who benefited from our initiatives. The quarter also saw some of our General Members stepping up to take leadership positions of the club, being involved in the club’s decision-making process as Team Leaders. B All in all, looking back at the third quarter of RACUOK, we have begun to “Innovate” through the projects we did and the ideas we brought forward into the movement, to “Persist” in all our endeavors, to see our projects gain their fullest potential and never backing down in the face of challenges, and to “Thrive”, as we have now started to realize the goals we had set for the club at the beginning of the year. Chronicle M E d i t i o n T h r e e ESSAGE FROM THE CO-EDITOR
Chronicle MESSAGE FROM THE SENIOR EDITOR The Rotaract can be introduced as a place to serve the humanity, a platform to enhance one’s personality and an arena to make long-lasting friendships. Joining the Rotaract was indeed a watershed in my life and my Rotaract journey so far established in me what was hidden inside myself. The past three months have indeed been a thrill, watching all the avenues of RACUOK work wonders and achieve the unachievable was nothing short of exhilarating. This prominent initial period as a co-editor has been nothing but exciting and fruitful; there’s no such joy as reading the amazing articles penned by our fellow Rotaractors, and diving into their creative worlds. Being an editor also has its challenges but its noteworthy to state that they are easily outweighed by teamwork and the joy of writing. This quarterly period in Rotaract has undoubtedly stained my mind with wonderful memories and events. “Chronicle” would have stayed a name if not a word, if it’s not for our team Editorial Avenue. Their contribution in presenting this remarkable journey to you is as always commendable. I consider their enthusiastic and creative engagement to be the cause to distinguish the Editorial Avenue from the others. Compiling this newsletter with them had a stunning impact on me. I am excited to unveil our first quarterly journey for the RI year 2022-23 to you and hereby I wish you for a comfortable read. I look forward to acquiring and cherishing some more memories in the months to come. Viva la Rotaract!!! Rtr. Dinithi Fernando Co-Editor RI Year 2022-23 E d i t i o n T h r e e
Chronicle M E d i t i o n T h r e e ESSAGE FROM THE CO-EDITOR
Chronicle MESSAGE FROM THE SENIOR EDITOR E d i t i o n T h r e e Great establishments always start off with fresh beginnings. The Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya is back to shine with the dawn of another phenomenal year. It’s truly an honour for me to be amongst the Board of Directors of RACUOK for the term 2022-23. It was never felt the saying “Time flies” until I realized we have passed a whole three months of journey as a club this year. Yet, as an editor this remarkable period has been an exquisite point in my life with a lot of learning and growing along with the pen. RACUOK has achieved many milestones as a club throughout the past years. Marking its 13th year of excellence in serving the community, this year too RACUOK cherishes a significant number of initiatives. Merely scripting down and confining what happened so far in the first quarter to a set of papers, wouldn’t do justice to the club and its activities. Yet, it should be mentioned that our team Editorial Avenue has attempted their best to make sure our audience recapture every momentous step of the club in the magazine. I’m sincerely obliged to our Chronicle team, from our Senior Editor to all the delegates of the Editorial Avenue and the Digital Media Avenue who were always behind the curtains till the last moment of publishing this first quarterly newsletter for the RI year 2022-23. I am more than grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this magazine myself. Thrilled to unveil, I invite all the willing souls out there to have a glimpse on “Chronicle”, RACUOK’s initial quarterly journey proudly presented by the Editorial Avenue of the Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya! Here I conclude being truly excited to anticipating what RACUOK brings us through the next unique quarters too. Have a sensational read! Rtr. Nuzha Farook Co-Editor RI Year 2022-23

AVENUE I N T E R N AT I O N A L S E RV I C he International Service Avenue of the Rotaract Club of the University of E Kelaniya has completed two major initiatives, from January to March, which intended to strengthen both international service and international understanding, marking the end of the third quarter of the Rotaract year 2022– 2023. The goal of the International Service Avenue of the Rotaract Club University of Kelaniya is to carry out significant projects that benefit both the Sri Lankan and global communities. In an effort to strengthen worldwide understanding and service, the avenue started several initiatives that brought the club an unprecedented international exposure. One such significant project that improves the interaction and synergism between the Rotaract Club of PDEU: the twin club and the Rotaract Club of the University of Kelaniya is Project DHAARA. Rotaract Clubs representing India got the chance to collaborate on Project DHAARA to advance sustainability beyond international borders. It was a groundbreaking initiative in which numerous foreign Rotaract Clubs competed fiercely by organizing and conducting separate projects in their respective regions as part of a single project. E d i t i o n T h r e e INTERNATIONAL SERVICE Chronicle T Project "DHAARA"; Sprinkling Congruence into the Future, was started to connect with a global community through alliances between worldwide Rotaract Clubs and to focus on the global sustainability of the Rotaract movement, having a profoundly favorable effect on the entire Rotaract movement.
AVENUE E d i t i o n T h r e e I N T E R N AT I O N A L S E RV I C E INTERNATIONAL SERVICE Chronicle The project introduction was held on the 16th of January 2023 and the very first task the clubs were appointed to was to submit their project proposals by the 19th of January 2023. Once they were approved all the clubs executed their projects within the period 24th of January to the 6th of February. As mentioned above the project was conducted as a competition between foreign Rotaract Clubs to follow 5 SDG goals which assist us to build a better community and a social life with a minimum budget of 5000 INR. All five clubs finished their tasks before the 13th of February 2023 and there was a Zoom meeting to conduct the final event and also to carry on with the judging procedure. In the meantime, the winners were announced based on two main aspects; the most popular category and the most effective category. Accordingly, The Rotaract Club of Mount Carmel was awarded as having carried out the "most effective project," and the club also won the "most popular project category" based on the number of views or followers received by the reel that was uploaded on Instagram. Project DHAARA was more than simply a contest; it provided a prime illustration of the value of teamwork and the effect that can be made when people work together for a common goal. The Rotaract Clubs that participated in this project demonstrated that every initiative matters toward

E d i t i o n T h r e e I N T E R N AT I O N A L S E RV I C E INTERNATIONAL SERVICE Chronicle Secondly, the IS Avenue hosted an event called E-talk which was basically about guidance on “How to communicate effectively.” On the 20th of March, the Organizing committee introduced the first session; “Basics of Effective Communication” with Rtr. IPP. Priya Sri. R from the Rotaract Club of Coimbatore Spectrum. The session was a much more informatic one which enabled the Rotaractors to enhance their speaking skills in a significant way. The 2nd session was conducted on the 24th of March 2023, with Dr. Christopher Haswell, Associate Professor at Kyushu University, Japan. The topic relevant to the second session was “English as an Effective Tool of International Communication”. It enables the members to unveil their hidden speaker and encourages them to be
AVENUE good communicators in English which can be considered the Lingua Franca of the contemporary world. Hence there were two sessions conducted on behalf of the project ETalk and both sessions were very well organized. The IS Avenue of RACUOK was able to conduct an event that enabled and improved the speaking abilities of the Rotaractors in an impactful way and the support given by the Organizing committee and the two resource persons was incredible. Hence, the avenue was able to successfully finish two projects in the third quarter with the effective use of short time frames. This demonstrates the talent and enormous effort the Avenue members have put into these initiatives. As a result, the third quarter of the Rotaract year 2022–23 has been a highly productive and a beneficial period. We hope to keep up this quality for the next quarter of the year too. As the International Service Avenue of the Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya we were able to bring out the avenue as one of the most active avenues of this year by concluding six projects by the end of the third quarter altogether.
