Reflections of a Talmid:
The first thing that struck anyone when
meeting R’ Binyamin was his genuine warmth.
He greeted everyone with his full smile and stroke
on the cheek or two-handed handshake. And he cared.
One time I shook his hand and he felt it was cold,
so he stood with me talking to me, as he
slowly squeezed my hand to bring it warmth.

Small things - I recall one time at one of the “tefillin celebrations”
that R’ Binyamin attended, he left with a bagel wrapped in a napkin,

so that the Rebbetzin could also enjoy the Simcha.
He felt the ‫ צער‬of others. I witnessed him speaking about

a certain ‫ צרה‬of others and literally flowing with tears.
Because of this, his humble demeanor and ‫ יראת שמים‬were able

to affect us talmidim so deeply, because we knew he cared.

Therefore, I will also carry with me the deliberate,
enunciated tefillos , the avoidance of ‫כבוד‬, and ‫יראת שמים‬

in all ‫מצבים‬, which I personally witnessed, crowned by
his huge heart that encompassed all of ‫כלל ישראל‬.

I wish to share with you that I had the great zechus to work
alongside Rabbi Kamenetzky as his Assistant. I can attest
first-hand of the mesiras nefesh R’ Binyomin, zt”l, had for every
person, every detail at the Yeshiva and his gratefulness to
all the financial supporters during some very difficult times.

Not many know that Rabbi Kamenetzky felt the
responsibility for the Yiddishkeit for Jewish people far

beyond the walls of the Yeshiva on William Street.
With his great foresight, he innovated and welcomed with
open arms the opportunity to host and personally answer

the telephones for the original ‘Hot Line to the Rabbi’.

Despite the daily pressures of running the Yeshiva,
the Rabbi made it a priority to offering support, advice

and practical answers to Jewish topics of the day.
And were we busy … as we received hundreds of fascinating
questions and comments from around New York and beyond.

May we all learn from this powerful lesson in Torah true leadership!

‫ ידיד ה'ישכון לבטח עליו‬-‫לבנימין אמר‬
Rav Binyamin was a true Yedid Hashem-

always focused on his higher purpose
Yet he was also a true Yedid to all those he met-

Anyone who crossed his path felt like they
had acquired a true friend for life-

There was nothing he couldn’t or wouldn’t do to help another,
The words “I can’t” were not in his lexicon
With respect for all his fellow men, and an

inordinate degree of appreciation for everyone,
He was the ultimate Yedid to one and all,

To the greatest of Torah leaders- to the little boy
who received a special candy from the principal.

Even as he lay sick and wracked with pain –
he declared “Don’t make me an in-valid”-

He was still focused on what he could do for others- how he could help-
For he felt their pain – more than he was cognizant of his own pain.
Binyamin merited the building of the Bais Hamikdosh in his land,
Rav Binyamin was likewise a builder - of Torah, of community, of life.
Nothing stopped him, not traffic, not weather, not lack of funds –
Not even the statement “But that is impossible”-
For Rav Binyamin everything was possible –
for he was truly a Yedid Hashem.

Rav Binyamin’s way was to lead with a smile – something
that fueled us as we stepped into our classrooms. His
wisdom and mastery of chinuch grounded us and provided
us with stability and confidence in the mission he was leading.

We owe much gratitude to Rav Binyamin for forging the way in
building a makom Torah where Rabbeim and Talmidim alike grow side

by side. A place where we can pass along the mesorah of the Torah
HaKedosha, from generation to generation – all in his zechus.
