Rabbi Dovid Sharfman, ZT"L

Though we were never in his shiur, we were ALL his talmidim,
learning from the way he conducted himself with his talmidim,
amongst his colleagues, and with his family. His shmuessin to
the high school were legendary, each one making a real impact

on the Rabbeim and talmidim. He performed his avodas
Hashem with such anava and tzniyus, yet his geshmak for Torah
u’mitzvos was so visible. His Mincha on Rosh Hashana and Yom
Kippur was an integral part of our Yamim Noraim. He was the

ruach of the Yeshiva on Yomim Tovim, particularly Purim and
Shavuos when the talmidim were all there to join with him. He
cared about everyone and made time for anyone who needed.

He is sorely missed.

A few words in appreciation of our dear Mechuton

Norman ‫ נ"י‬and the Levine Family '‫שתחי‬

A beautiful story is told about the sister of Reb Meir Shapiro ‫ז”ל‬, who on the
night of Rosh Hashana 1923, dreamt that she saw her late mother in her
place in ‫ גן עדן‬being presented with a beautiful golden crown. It transpired
that on that night, her famous brother's idea to start learning the ‫דף היומי‬

had been implemented around the world and her mother in ‫ גן עדן‬was being
honoured. We feel that this story is appropriate this evening when "The
Levine Family" are the celebrated guests at the annual dinner of the
Yeshiva. Each member of the family contributing their bit towards the
benefit of the ‫קהילה‬. In ‫ שמים‬at this moment, the beloved unforgettable
matriarch of the family "Jeanette" ‫ ע"ה‬will undoubtedly be honoured and

will receive the golden crown of Nachas. For what we see today is the fruits
of her investment in the ‫ חינוך‬of her children for over two decades.

Rabbi Sharfman’s dedication and support for
all of his talmidim should be the guidebook followed by

all Bais Medrash mashgiachs.

Rabbi Sharfman’s weekly Shabbos gemorah shiur in Young
Israel for over 15 years, in addition to all of his responsibilities

in Yeshiva, had the zechus of having a diverse group of men
learning Torah. We benefitted immensely from those insightful

shiurim.

Rabbi Sharfman is sorely missed by all who knew him,
grew from him, and gained from him.

Even as a yeshiva bochur "branching" in Miami 32 years ago he
made a huge impact on the talmidim and on the community.
As a Rebbi and mashgiach he provided wise counsel,
incredible warmth and served as a role model
for every talmid in the Yeshiva.

His loss leaves a void that will never be filled.
As much as his presence is missed, his influence lives on by

virtue of the effect he had on countless talmidim.

Over the years I have heard it said about certain individuals
that they were greater than life.

I never understood what that meant until we experienced
the unbelievable loss of our cherished son-in-law,

Harav HaGaon Rav Baruch Dovid Aryeh zt”l
ben Harav Noson Dov.

He was a brilliant outstanding Talmid Chochum, with great
depth, meaning the ability to delve into complicated concepts,
well beneath the surface, accomplishing that in vast areas of

Torah. His goal was to share this knowledge with each and
every talmid as he also reached the community at large.

Beyond all of this, was his love of each talmid and fellow Jew he
came in contact with. He used his brilliance to understand them
and to guide them toward their goal of perfection, all the while

never losing focus on the personal development of each
member of his outstanding family. His profound love of his
creator prompted him to assist everyone he knew to strive to

live up to what Hashem wanted of them.
May the Klal Yisroel continue to grow and be inspired from his

Torah teaching and the example he set. May he be a meilitz
yosher for his beloved family and the entire Klal Yisroel.

In honor of the Roshei Yeshiva, Rabbeim, and support staff!
My first conversation with Rabbi Sharfman zt"l was about coming to learn
in Miami about 18 years ago. I felt his warmth then. When I arrived at the

Yeshiva to learn in Elul, Rebbi was there to help me shlep my bags to the
dorm. In our first sugya , he gave me more than an hour of afternoon seder
which was usually his time to take care of many issues in Yeshiva and the
talmidim,to let me present my own mehalech in the sugya. He listened and
respected my take on the Gemara as if it was correct. . Rebbe's constant

encouragement to grow into a Ben-Torah affected all of his talmidim.
Rebbe appointed me as gabbai in my second year. This was another
opportunity to spend more time learning both halacha and the proper
balance in giving people kavod. I spent countless hours talking hashkafa and
mussar, as well as Rebbi listening to my observations. He acknowledged my
ideas and corrected my mistaken thoughts. Rebbe did all that he could to
ensure the talmidim had the best food and comforts in order to help us
grow in Torah. The first year of the new building was my last year in Yeshiva
there. With so many challenges and disruptions to the learning, Rebbe put
in superhuman effort to make everything work. From Chavrusa trades( like
a GM of a sports team) to onegs and gatherings, Rebbe was the force for
true Torah growth. Even after I went to the Main Yeshiva in Queens, I kept
up with Rebbe on a monthly basis. Rebbe appointed me as gabbi emeritus.
He called and texted to find out what Queens was doing for Yamim Noraim
scheduling and everything in between. Rebbe followed the Mesorah of The
Rosh Yeshiva zt"l in all that he did and taught. Rebbe gave me the chizuk to
say my first (and subsequent) Chaburas. My parents flew Rebbe in to be an
Eid under my Chuppah. Rebbe thanked me profusely for giving him such
nachas. Rebbe celebrated when his first group of talmidim received
Semicha from Queens. This is just a glimpse into the influence and chessed
that this Gadol BaTorah had on a talmid. Rebbe’s family allowed him and
encouraged him to accomplish all of this. They truly were his partners in

creating a real Makom Torah in Miami.
Not a day goes by without thinking about Rebbe.

From ninth grade in Forest Hills - his first Rebbe job -
to Miami in the early years of the Bais Medrash
back on Indian Creek Drive,
Rabbi Sharfman zt”l always was a special Rebbe.

His passionate Torah personality and genuine warmth
always stood out.

Perhaps though, I learned from him even more in the last three
years, as I joined the Hanhalla of the Bais Medrash.

I witnessed first-hand how his dedication to his talmidim knew
no bounds. I gained immensely from our especially close
relationship.
He was truly the Rebbe's Rebbe.
He will be sorely missed. But his legacy will live on.

May his special family draw comfort from the knowledge that
his hundreds of talmidim continue to carry his teachings in their

hearts and in their minds every single day.
