To Our Reader Alhamdulillah. Wardun, the Annual Journal of Gontor Education Institution is completed on time. Facing limitations at this extraordinary time of Covid-19, we, the editorial team, are grateful to be able in completing this task well. Everything is inseparable from the hard work, responsibility, seriousness and sincerity of the entire editorial team. Wardun is reportage of the overall Gontor activity during the year. It covers activities of students, teachers, the Grand Sheikh of Gontor, and Gontor Supreme Council Members. To make it easier for readers to understand and see the development of Gontor as a whole, the system of Wardun’s presentation refers to the Five Longterm Plans of Gontor, namely; Education and Instruction, Khizanatullah, Building Development, Building The Cadre, and Family Welfare. The chapter of Education and Teaching covers the activities of Students Counseling and Guidance, Islamic Teachers Training College (ITTC), and University of Darussalam (UNIDA) Gontor. For this year, Wardun is presented in different style of reporting, especially regarding news of all academic and non-academic activities of ITTC students. These activities are reported not by each campus, but in general and comprehensive under the Counseling and Guidance and ITTC chapters. This is a manifestation of the notion that Gontor does not only optimize activities at the main Campus, but also always improve the quality of students and teachers in all campuses of Gontor in Indonesia. Alhamdulillah, during the Pandemic Coronavirus Disease (Covid-19), ITTC and UNIDA continue to show significant progress, both in quantity and quality. This year, ITTC was able to implement an online registration system for all prospective male and female students, to hold a number of virtual lectures deepening the material for teachers in all Gontor campuses, and to open and implement the ITTC curriculum at Gontor for Girls Campus 8, Labuhan Ratu. Meanwhile, UNIDA Gontor also continues to strive optimally in realizing the vision of Trimurti (The Three Gontor Founding Fathers) to become an excellent and meaningful University. This year, Prof. Dr. K.H. Hamid Fahmy Zarkasyi, M.A.Ed., M.Phil, was inaugurated by the Grand Sheikh of Gontor as the new Rector of UNIDA Gontor to replace the previous Rector, Prof. Dr. K.H. Amal Fathullah Zarkasyi, M.A., who is now given the mandate as the Grand Sheikh of Gontor. Until now, UNIDA Gontor has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with 160 Higher Education Partners i.e. 85 Foreign Universities and Institutions; and 75 Domestic Universities and Institutions. In addition, UNIDA Gontor also receives institutional accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT) with the predicate “Very Good”. Khizanatullah chapter covers the activities of Gontor in applying the principle of independence especially in the aspect of funding. It presents the activities of Gontor Waqf Maintenance and Expansion Institution (YPPWPM) in the expansion of waqf, both through purchases and trade-in, as well as the expansion in the number of existing business units. This year, Gontor has a land area of 16,258,598 m2 or around 1,626 ha spread across Indonesia, in addition, there is an additional new business unit, namely the Gambia Department Store at Gontor Main Campus, as a shopping destination for students’ daily needs, both primary and secondary. Not less interesting than the previous chapters, the Infrastructure chapter comes with the new building facilities at Gontor, such as Bottled Drinking Water Building (Amidas) at Gontor Main Campus; Trimurti and Nin-Xia Buildings at Gontor Campus 4, Banyuwangi; Azerbaijan Building at Gontor Campus 6, Kendari; Mini Hall at Gontor Campus 10, Jambi; Baitul Abbas Thalib Mosque at Gontor for Girls Campus 2, Mantingan; Auditorium at Gontor for Girls Campus 4, Kendari and Gontor Campus 5, Magelang; and 20 classrooms at Gontor Campus 6, Kendari and 7 classrooms at Gontor for Girls Campus 7, Riau.
Building The Cadres chapter contains news about the various efforts of Gontor Leadership in creating and improving the quality and quantity of Gontor cadres. Among them: Assignment, Representation, and Delegation of Authority. Included in this process are marriages arranged by Gontor leadership with a readiness agreement to become a cadre’s wife or husband. It is a common knowledge in Gontor that Gontor cadres are not allowed to serve in other institutions outside Gontor. Family Welfare chapter presents the reports on all kinds of efforts of Gontor Leaders in regard with making Gontor cadres prosper. These efforts are by providing housing and its facilities for teachers who are married, sending cadres to continue their studies to a higher level, dispatching cadres to carry out the Hajj and Umrah pilgrimages and so on. Apart from these five chapters, Wardun also includes some additional chapters reporting special news that occur this year namely Online Registration for Prospective Gontor Students, News of the Death of the Grand Sheikh of Gontor, K.H. Syamsul Hadi Abdan and DR. (HC). K.H. Abdullah Syukri Zarkasyi, M.A., Appointment of the Sheikh of Gontor for the 2020-2025 Service Period, and Activities of the Covid-19 Task Force. Not to be missed, Wardun also publishes additional news such as: Number of Gontor Families Abroad, Visits of Guests to Gontor, Family News, Obituaries, and Message and Advice from Trimurti (the Three Gontor Founding Fathers). Not to forget, we would like to convey thousands of thanks to all students, teachers, and Gontor alumni who have participated in the success of the Wardun Cover Design Competition. Alhamdulillah, through this competition, Gontor students, teachers and alumni were able to increase their creativity to come up with new ideas in the graphic design work of making Wardun covers. Finally, on behalf of the Wardun Editorial Team, we apologize for shortcomings and mistakes in writing and presenting Wardun this year. For this reason, we always hope for suggestions and inputs to improve Wardun in the coming year. Happy reading, hope it is useful. Gontor, 13 J. Tsaniah 1442/26 January 2021 Wardun Editorial Team
