ESCALATOR and LIFT

Function of Escalator and
Lift
Layout of Escalator and
Lift

ESCALATOR

Escalators are moving stairs used to convey
people between floor levels.
The maximum carrying capacity depends on
the step width and conveyor speed.
Standard steps widths are 600mm, 800mm and
1000mm, with speeds of 0.5m/s and 0.65 m/s.
Control gear is less complex than that required
for lifts as the motor runs continuously with less
load variations
In high rise buildings space for an escalator is
unjustified for the full height and the high speed
of modern lifts provides for a better service.

ADVANTAGES OF ESCALATOR

Have the capacity to transport Proven for outdoor use
large number of people at Power – driven, continuously moving
shorter time staircase
Faster mode of transportation for Moves at a constant speed at
short vertical distances approximately 0.3-0.6m per second
Can be placed / substituted as with a standard rise up to about 18m
normal staircase even during
malfunction
No waiting internal except during
heavy traffic.

DISADVANTAGES OF ESCALATOR

Higher risk of injuries
Only convenient for short
vertical distance, better to
use lifts for lengthier vertical
distance
Takes up space to install

Parallel TYPES OF Cleat type
ESCALATOR Spiral
Multi parallel

Parallel Escalator

Parallel escalator faces are always in the same direction. Go up and
down simultaneously
Parameter:

Speed: 0.5m/s
Inclination: 30.3s
Step width: 800/1000
Power 50 Hz/3p
Handrails: Rubber/Stainless steel
Step: stainless steel
Landing plate: anti skid stainless steel
Operation: Emergency stop button/key switch/inspection
operation
Illumination: lighting under upper & lower landing steps
Indicator: failure indicator on control cabinet

Multi parallel Escalator

Multi parallel escalator have two or more escalators together that
travel in one direction next to one or two escalators
Parameter:

Speed: 0.5m/s
Inclination: 30.3s
Step width: 800/1000
Power 50 Hz/3p
Handrails: Rubber/Stainless steel
Step: stainless steel
Landing plate: anti skid stainless steel
Operation: Emergency stop button/key switch/inspection
operation
Illumination: lighting under upper & lower landing steps
Indicator: failure indicator on control cabinet

Crisscross Escalator

This type escalator minimizes space requirements by "stacking"
escalators that go in one direction
Parameter:

Step width: 600/ 800 /1000
Power: 300V/ 50 Hz / 3p
Handrails: Rubber/Stainless steel
Step: stainless steel
Landing plate: anti skid stainless steel
Operation: Emergency stop button/key switch/inspection
operation
Illumination: lighting under upper & lower landing steps
Indicator: failure indicator on control cabinet

Spiral Escalator

This type escalator develop more comfortable public
environments for humankind and a pioneering
technology. These are used to enhance the
architectural beauty and to save the space
Parameter:

Inclined angle: 30 degree
Rated speed: 25 m/s
Number of person: 6300 per hour
Rated speed (meter/sec): 25 m/ min
Vertical rise (m): 3500 ~ 6600

Cleat Type Escalator

Cleat type escalator is one type of escalator
which includes cleated metal and later wood
trends
Some types of the escalator which look like a belt
and this type of escalator perfect for up and down
smoothly
Several shopping malls already install such type
of escalator to up and down easily

ELEVATOR / LIFT

The elevator word derived from the verb
Ascend, which etymologically comes from
latin "scandere" which means climbing
The elevator or lift is a machine that is
available in apartment buildings or houses,
that have several floors and serves as the
main route of transportation of individuals
and goods, allowing them through him, up or
down through the floors to have the building
or House in question.
The lifts are devices that allow you to soar.

IMPORTANCE OF LIFT

Rapid Development

Buildings design nowadays built vertically/higher because of land value is costly

Basic Needs

To transfer user or things from one level to another higher level in the building

Comfort Needs

Working efficiency for office staff or larger organization in the high rise offices

Uniform Building By Law (UBBL)

Buildings which is consist more than 6 stories are required to provide with lift system

Fire Safety Requirements

High rise building is require to provide fire lift to be used during fire incident

LIFT REQUIREMENT

Necessary in all buildings over three storeys high.

Essential in all buildings over a single storey if they are accessed by the elderly

or disabled.

Minimum standard for one lift per four storeys

Minimum walking distance to access a lift for 45 m

Floor space and lift car capacity can be estimated at 0.2 Sqm. per person

TYPES OF LIFT

TYPES OF LIFT

TYPES OF LIFT

VARIOUS SPEED OF LIFT

Express lift that does not stop at the lower floor levels.
The upper speed limit is 7 m/s because of the inability of the human ear to
adapt to rapid changing atmospheric conditions.
Overall theoretical maximum travel distance is 21 m vertically, therefore
limited to four or five storeys.

LIFT COMPONENT

LIFT COMPONENT

Cabin
a lift unit designed
for transportation of
persons and /or
goods.

LIFT COMPONENT

Shaft
a space in which the lift
cabin moves. The
space is as a rule
housed with pit
bottom, walls and
ceiling.

LIFT COMPONENT

Machine room
a room in which the
drive unit (or units)
and the connected
equipment are situated,
e.g. control elements

LIFT COMPONENT

Drive unit

a unit that contains motor
that drives a lift. In traction
lifts it is so called traction
machine and in hydraulic
ones it is a set with a
motor, pump and valve
block

LIFT COMPONENT

T-guides
rigid elements that
secure guiding of a
car frame and a
cabin

LIFT COMPONENT

Car frame
a rigid construction
that holds the car
and travels in the
guides

LIFT COMPONENT

Counterweight
a separately guided
mass that partly
counter balances the
cabin and secures
ropes pressure to a
driving pulley

LIFT COMPONENT

Controller
a unit that controls
the lift travel.

LIFT COMPONENT

Piston
a lift component that uses a
working medium for a plane
motion. The piston is
compose d of a cylinder
and a ram. There are also
single or multistage pistons
so called telescopic
