surround the Maldives, and these atolls provide some protection from tsunamis, so this did

THE MALDIVES IS SINKING
E Scientists say that the islands are slowly sinking into the sea, and they estimate that it is
only a matter of several years before they go fully under the water. Water is leaking onto the
shorelines. It is a real and dangerous threat.
CAN THE MALDIVES BE SAVED?
F The President of the Maldives has established protective actions to save the islands from
15 sinking. The President ordered people to construct some support walls and barriers around
the islands to stop water from coming in. He has started raising funds to move everyone on
the islands to a safe place in case the islands sink.
G In conclusion, although the Maldives is a beautiful
place to visit, it can also be dangerous. Storms and

are also slowly sinking into the sea.

A demonstrative adjective modifies a noun:
