OCPM
BUILDS NEW
FOOT . CLINIC
In 1986 OCPM employed a marketing firm
to complete a marketing and feasibility
study. The results of this study determined
that remodeling the existing facility would
not provide the estimated 28,000 square
feet of space needed for a departmentalized
system. The study recommended that a new
clinic, built to the college's specifications
was needed.
The new clinic, completed in August 1990,
consists of about 28,000 square feet divid-
ed into four major patient care modules.
Each module has a conference room and ten
to twelve patient treatment rooms. Adminis-
trative staff areas, billing, medical records,
and a pharmacy will be located on the first
floor. The first floor will also house the Sur-
gery and Podiatric Medicine modules. The
second floor of the clinic will contain the
Orthopedics and General Medicine mod-
. ules. According to Dr. Melillo, the Orthope-
dics module will be showcased by a comput-
erized gait analysis lab and Electrodyno-
gram.
The clinic also has a 4,000 square foot
shell located at the rear of the main building.
Acc.ording to Dr. Melillo, this area, referred
to as "phase two" will eventually contain
surgical suites for the Surgery Department.
Operating rooms located in the existing fa-
cility will continue to be utilized for the pre-
sent time.
The college is currently in negotiation with
various corporations to provide equipment
and furnishings for the new clinic. Dr. Melillo
stated that an Electgrodynogram and gait
analysis equipment have been graciously
donated by the Langer Corporation and an
automatic X-ray film processor has been
donated by Kodak.
Dr. Melillo stated that this is the first time
in OCPM's history in which a clinical facility
has been designed and constructed to the
college's specifications. "It is not just a
building; it represents OCPM's quality of
service and deep commitment to educa-
tion."
