Introduction
Mr Tan had been working as a manager for twenty years at a small company. However, during a bad
recession his company had financial problems. Not long after that, the company closed down.

Body
Paragraph 1

· Although Mr Tan had some savings, he worried for the future. He had a wife and three children.
Mr Tan immediately started looking for for other jobs but since it was the recession, he could
not get a job.

Paragraph 2
· Mr Tan decided to become an e-hailing driver. Some days he had many passengers but other days
he hardly had any. Mr Tan wondered how long he could keep on paying the mortgage for his
house. He also worried if he would be able to keep on paying for his eldest daughter’s college
fees.

Paragraph 3
· One day, Mr Tan gathered the family and said that they had to sell the house. His family felt sad
but they understood his position. After selling the house, they moved to an apartment.
Meanwhile, Mr Tan’s eldest daughter managed to get a scholarship to continue her college
education.

Paragraph 4

· Almost two years after Mr Tan lost his job, his old boss called him. He said he had managed to
open a new company and asked Mr Tan if he would like be the manager. Mr Tan happily agreed.
Slowly the family’s finances began to improve.

Conclusion
A few years later, Mr Tan sold the apartment and bought a landed property. Even though the family was
doing well, they never forgot their difficult times. They often help out others in need.
