SSH has extensive experience in carrying out all early project stages including pre-development studies, zoning and feasibility studies, master planning and urban design. Over five decades, we have been involved in or led the planning of many of Kuwait’s most significant construction projects. To maintain quality control, we regularly audit site teams to ensure that our procedures are followed. Hilton Garden Inn, Bahrain Client: Bareeq Al Retaj Scope of Services: Pre-concept, Concept, Schematic and Detailed Design The new Avenues Hotel, is a 125m-high waterfront property adjoined to the east end of the newly opened Avenues Mall. In keeping with the iconic Arcapita Office Building, Wyndham and Four Seasons Hotels surrounding Bahrain Bay, the Avenues Hotel will supplement the Manama north shore skyline with superb architectural form and amazing vistas. The hotel will draw on Bahrain’s growing tourist industry and, as well as its immediate connections to the Avenues Mall, it is within 10 minutes’ drive time of Bahrain International Airport, 20 minutes from the Saudi Causeway and within easy driving distance of all Bahrain’s cultural, leisure and retail attractions. The hotel’s offering consists of 214 guest rooms, an allday dining facility and speciality restaurant. The hotel will benefit from a podium-level swimming pool with landscaped children’s area, gym and spa facilities for guests. Access to the hotel will be either via a dedicated valet drop-off or the hotel can be accessed by foot via the Mall. SSH undertook the initial concept studies in 2015 and is now concluding the detailed design. This project was completed in 2021.
5-Star Marina Hotel, Oman Client: Yiti Tourism Development Company Scope of Services: Lead Consultant In collaboration with Nikki Beach Hotels and Resorts, the Yiti Tourism Development Company intends to develop a 5-star Nikki Beach resort comprising a 140-keys hotel and 30 villas along with a beach restaurant and marina club. The design features two hotel wings with uninterrupted views of the marina and beach from all rooms. The central pool steps down through the resort, connecting all the key public spaces and villas to the F&B outlets, beach and Yiti marina beyond. This project was the first project to be awarded within the overall Yiti masterplan development and is a flagship project for the masterplan. The 5-Star Marina hotel was voted ‘Best New Hotel Construction and Design Oman and ‘Best New Hotel Construction and Design Arabia’ at the International Property Awards in October 2021.
Winter Camp Al Wadi – AlUla, KSA Client: Royal Commission of AlUla Scope of Services: Lead Consultant Operator: Accor The first phase of Winter Camp Al Wadi is a luxury tented resort and festival area set within a 14sq km site, located among the spectacular rock formations and semi-arid desert setting of the AlUla region of KSA. The resort has been designed to sympathetically work with the area’s outstanding topography to achieve the vision of the client, the Royal Commission of AlUla, within the construction timeframe. The site features 14km of new access road and infrastructure to access the main resort, which has been built across a natural valleyed Wadi in the mountains of AlUla. The resort itself contains a 500-seat mirrored concert venue, complemented by five VVIP villas, 30 winter tent buildings, restaurants and a spa, along with a 500-person staff camp. SSH was appointed as Lead Consultant on this ultra-fasttrack, four-month design-and-build programme, which acted as a festival venue in December 2018. SSH provided full master planning, infrastructure and site-based design services working in close collaboration with MACE and the Royal Commission to successfully complete the project’s first phase within the timeframe.
Alila Jabal Al Akhdar Resort Expansion, Oman Client: Confidential Scope of Services: Full architectural as well as multidisciplinary engineering design and construction supervision services Alila Jabal Al Akhdar is an 86-room, five-star boutique property located 2,000 metres above sea level overlooking a dramatic gorge, surrounded by awe-inspiring views of the Al Hajar Mountains. Oman Tourism Development Company (Omran) intends to further enhance this exciting resort offering by adding 36 new guest keys in clusters along the ridge, increasing the hotel property’s overall capacity to 122 keys. The additional cluster will bring the resort in line with the average size for a semi-luxury boutique hotel with a spa. In addition to the accommodation clusters, the brief includes a new family area (consisting of a restaurant, kids Alila play, pool with changing room facilities and an eco centre), extensions to the existing board room and staff back-ofhouse facilities SSH has been appointed to deliver full architectural and multidisciplinary engineering design services, including construction supervision. This beautifully designed property is one of a very few large mountain-top retreats in the GCC and is perhaps the only one that offers a 15C cooler temperature difference from sea level during the hot summer months, With architecture inspired by ancient forts with a contemporary twist, the expansion of the Alila Jabal Al Akhdar Resort will help to provide respite for more visitors wanting to experience boutique hospitality at its best.
