From the VICE CHAIRMAN
This year has been a tremendously
successful one for our school
community. Academically your
children continued to excel at the highest
levels, both locally and abroad.
One of our students, Deborah Eseoghene
Akugbe, scored 291 points for the JAMB
exams - 41 points above the cut off required
for admission into any of the top universities
in Nigeria.
Ese also gained admission into the African
Leadership University in their Rwanda
campus, where she has been awarded a partial scholarship.
Another student, Similoluwa Aluko, was also awarded a part scholarship to study
engineering at Johns Hopkins University in the United States, one of the world’s
most difficult universities to gain entrance into.
A third student, Feyishayo Aluko was awarded a scholarship to attend The Brown
University Summer Programme in the United States.
In addition to the above, the school came first in Nigeria in the 2017 British
Council’s‘YourWorld’ Competition.
Our boarding house admitted more students from both within and outside Lagos.
We continue to lay strict emphasis on character moulding and instilling discipline
into the children. Our very high ratio of adults to children in the boarding house
has permitted an unusual degree of focus on each child, paying attention to each
child’s varied and individual needs.
The school has continued to invest heavily in resources required for continous
and sustained development. We remain grateful to the PTA for equipping our
classrooms with state of the art projectors with their accompanying electronic
white board interfaces. These have significantly improved our teaching delivery
capabilities and makes the learning activities easier and more fun for the students.
Security has also been significantly beefed up in all areas of school activities and
will remain a subject of continous vigilance and review.
4 / THE YEAR 2017 @ BUSYBEES & WESTMILLS
We remain committed to seeking and retaining the best available teaching and
support staff. Indeed we recognize that our staff are indeed the most important
and precious asset that your children benefit the most from, and we are truly
very appreciative of the dedicated work and invaluable sacrifices they contribute
towards the overall success of each childs’ development.
To all our parents,we thank you for entrusting your children to us.
Enjoy reading this year book and celebrate with us.
Have a wonderful holiday.
We also thank our Most Senior Chairman, God Almighty (The Chairman of all
Chairmen), for giving us another extremely successful year.
To Him be all the glory, always.
THE YEAR 2017 @ BUSYBEES & WESTMILLS//57
FROM THE
HEAD OF SCHOOL
As the school year draws to an
end, so also the time to say
goodbye becomes imminent
again. It is a bitter-sweet time for me.
Why “bitter-sweet?” you might ask.
Some of the graduating students this
year joined us in nursery or primary
school and have become personally
close to me. I have watched them grow
into the young adults they are today.
The pain of separation gnaws at my
heart knowing that one chapter has
ended and a new one begins. In the
same token, there is sweetness because it is a time of fulfillment, a time we
have prepared long and hard for,a time to release these young adults into the
glorious future they were destined for.
To the graduating class, we have painstakingly and lovingly put together a
keepsake in this yearbook for you.We hope to have captured memories of
your time here to help you remember you were here.
I hope as you peruse this edition of the yearbook, you will be reminded of all
the wonderful times you had in this school; the tears, the laughter, the fun
times, the times of hard work, life long friendships you have made here and
you will be gingered into aiming higher.
I pray that God will elevate you, help you attain lofty heights and achieve all
your dreams.I pray that you would be able to say " I was here,I lived,I loved,I
was here. l did, I've done everything I wanted and It was more than I thought
it would be." I pray you will leave your mark so the world would be a better
place for your being in it.
One final parting word is "There will be miracles if you believe! "

from THE
CHIEF EDITOR’S DESK
Reminiscences
It has been another exhilarating rollercoaster of
activities this year at West Mills and BusyBees
School. As the yearbook editor-in-chief,it has been
my job and my absolute honour to make sure that
whether our students are giving performances worthy
of seasoned thespians, dominating debate
competitions, excelling at sports and academics or just
having good fun, the yearbook is always there to
capture all of our special moments and
accomplishments. As difficult a job as it is, the end
product makes the experience far more rewarding than it is challenging.
Here we have a yearbook that captures, in every single page, the values that set us
apart: a commitment to innovation, a passion for excellence and a keen sense of
community.
I have been extremely fortunate to be able to work with such an incredible editorial
team this year. Mrs Obidipe’s constant encouragement, Similoluwa’s selflessness and
the immense contribution of every member is deeply appreciated.I am honoured that
MrsAluko has put so much trust in our ability to bring the estimably high standards she
has set for the yearbook to materialisation—we can only hope that we have not fallen
short of her expectations. I am also grateful to Mrs Etim, MrTommy and Mr Hillary for
their frequent prompting, timeless advice and invaluable input.
I am very grateful to every student and member of staff who submitted entries and
agreed for them to be published. Perhaps the most difficult aspect of creating this
yearbook was deciding which among the deluge of high quality articles, poems,
narratives and artworks makes it into the yearbook.I would also like to specially thank
Dame Rebecca Aikhomu, Dr.Tahir, Mr Oliver Terante and Mr Ogunwemimo Oladipo
for graciously granting interviews to our students. This has allowed us to add a fresh
dimension to our yearbook while also creating a learning opportunity for our
students.
Finally, I hope that this yearbook will be a worthy a symbol of all our remarkable
accomplishments during the past year and serve as a source of nostalgic reminiscences
that we all,as members of theWest Mills/BusyBees family can be proud of.
Enjoy!

14 / THE YEAR 2017 @ BUSYBEES & WESTMILLS
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
As we reach the end of another academic year, we
want to thank all our support staff, teachers,
parents and friends of the school for your support
during the year and to wish you well for summer.
It has been an excellent year and the students in all year
groups have been working really hard to achieve their
best.As always at Busy Bees and West Mills, it has been a
very busy year with a whole range of events and activities
taking place.
Our 11-14 year olds made us proud by putting in an
excellent performance and taking the first position in
competition tagged “YourWorld” organized by the British Council of Nigeria. The video the
production can be viewed at the following web address https://vimeo.com/202750197.
Furthermore, APSAF (Apapa Schools Arts Festival), an epoch-making event; the first of its
kind in Apapa environs and an initiative of our students inWest Mills, was mind blowing. The
event showcased the talent of our children in various areas like dance, drama and visual arts.It
was a time of celebration and we are really grateful to all the parents who came along to
support their children and make the day a huge success.
We added a new dimension to our sports day this year. Instead of the usual races, we added
more fun games which got everyone involved. Great competition with superb individual and
team performances ensured that the day was greatly enjoyed by all--both competitors and
those cheering them on from the sidelines.
Moving on to academics, our teachers have had a productive year of learning. BusyBees and
West Mills teachers are lifelong learners. We are determined to continue to improve by
making sure that we are learning the best strategies for preparing our children for the 21st
Century. To this end, our teachers have been involved in many courses within and outside the
school to improve the learning outcomes. You can be assured that your children will continue
to receive the best education possible. Our many thanks go to the PTA for providing each
class with an interactive white board and projector. This will indeed go a long way to make
learning fun for our children.
I would like to use this medium to congratulate our graduating students on their wonderful
achievements. This is just the beginning of an amazing new chapter for you all-Similoluwa
Aluko, Michelle Issa, Deborah Akugbe, Ali Jomma and SvevaValsesia. The knowledge and the
power to take this new chapter by storm has been deposited in you to write the words that
will be etched in your story forever. We have been preparing you, the support staff, the
teachers, your parents, care givers and your fellow students, to start this future with hearts
full of love, hope and faith. I am glad to note that the achievements of Year 12 students are an
inspiration to all students and staff.
We will sorely miss you all.
