One Mayor’s Badge of Office acid tested to 18ct. Yellow gold with enamel.

Oval shaped pendant badge with hand pierced raised gold lettering, corded borders
and open strap work surrounding the centre limoge enamel depicting the Arms of

‘THE METROPOLITAN BOROUGH OF WIGAN’

Consisting of one single row of 28 x Gothic shield links. Approx. Size 34mm x 25mm.
Each engraved with Arms crest and monogram of Mayors from the Borough of Wigan

from 1849 – 1923 alternating with oval flower head buckle links.

A short row attached to the inside edge of the long row between the 7th and 8th
shield link on both sides comprises 11 x Gothic shield links and 10 x oval links.

Birmingham 1859

One Silver Gilt Chain and enamelled badge of office.
Single row Silver Gilt chain approx. Length 90cm.
Hallmarked Sterling Silver Birmingham 1965.

Comprises 14 x red enamel Rose of Lancashire links alternating with
13 x oval quatrefoil links.

All joined by plain belcher link chain and connected to a central shield with crown
enamelled with ‘WIGAN’. Round in shape

Silver Gilt pendant on hook with limoge enamel depicting Coat of Arms with the words
‘PROGRESS WITH UNITY’

5. THE GREAT MACE
One 17th century Silver Gilt Mace with later 19th century additions.
Comprises a tubular stem engraved with sprigs of Oak leaves and Acorns between
gadrooned knops, the urn shaped base having a Coat of Arms and inscription
recording the gift of Alexander Holt, late goldsmith and Alderman of London and
Wigan in 1657 and a Latin inscription recording the gift from his Executor.
The bowl chased with the emblems of England, France, Scotland and Ireland and the

Borough of Wigan below the titles of Charles ll.
The crown with alternating Fleur-de-lys and cross pattée and stamped with Royal

Arms beneath four arches supporting the orb and cross.

6. THE LESSER MACE
One Silver Plated and Gilt mid 19th century Ceremonial Mace with knopped tubular

gilt-metal shaft.
Consists of urn shaped foot and plain bowl with crown having a Fleur-de-lys and cross

pattée rim fitted with four arches rising to an orb and cross indicative of late 17th
century. Caryatid scrolls fitted on staff below the bowl.

Comprising Steel hands with wavy spear points, the crescent blades pierced with
heart motifs and the pick backs with initials ‘HM’.
