48. VICTORIAN PARCEL-GILT EWER AND STAND
One Victorian Parcel-Gilt Ewer and stand produced by Elkington & Company

Dated Birmingham 1884.
With a cast foliage spout and spreading round base, the body of the ewer is applied
with a girdle above a band of leafage below which are six embossed panels of figures
emblematic of War, Produce, Learning, Beauty, the Arts and Wisdom bordered by gilt
scrolls and headed by grotesque masks. The handle is in the form of a classical girl

supporting a child.
The Ewer rests on a simple wire work stand with 6 leafy embossed panels.

49. CIRCULAR ROSE BOWL
One circular Silver Rose Bowl with shaped reeded edge and a pair of loop handles.

Made by Walker and Hall.
Hallmarked Sterling Silver Sheffield 1922.
Crested with the Arms of the County Borough of Wigan and a presentation inscription
‘TO THE MAYOR COUNCILLOR JAMES CAVEY J.P.’

On circular socle.

One Silver Tankard . Peter and Anne Bateman.

Hallmarked Sterling Silver London 1796.
Comprises tapering cylindrical body later chased with flowers and scrolls with a scroll

bordered cartouche enclosing a presentation inscription dated 1946. Scroll handle
with heart terminal.

Known as ‘The Lesser Tankard’.

‘PRESENTED TO JOHN WOODCOCK, MAYOR OF WIGAN BY RALPH TICKNESSE AND
RICHARD POTTER, ELECTED MPs FOR THE BOROUGH IN 1832.’

52. THE MASKELL PEACE SALVER

One large Victorian Partially Gilded round Salver by Elkington & Company
Dated Birmingham 1884.

Comprises a broad border with six embossed panels of scantily clad maidens and
signs of the zodiac centred by an enamelled disc applied with the Arms of the
Corporation of Wigan and enamelled with the names of the

Mayor ALDERMAN HENRY PARK, the recorder JOHN T. FITZADAM and 9 Aldermen of
the time.

Surrounded by a broad band of embossed gryphons further engraved with a
presentation inscription to

MASKELL WILLIAM PEACE as TOWN CLERK with the names of Borough Officials of the
day.

Total Diameter Approx: 54cm with centre enamel diameter approx. 17cm.
Approx. Size centre oval badge 16cm x 17cm.

One circular shaped William lV Silver Salver, Edward Barnard & Company.

Hallmarked Sterling Silver London 1831
Centre inscription within a band of flat-chased blooms and scrolls with similar border.

Standing on three foliage shell supports.
And with three secondary inscriptions.

54. EARL OF CRAWFORD FREEDOM CASKET
One Silver Freedom Casket on wooden plinth with enamelled finial crest of the Earl of

Crawford centred on lid.
Made by Elkington & Company dated Birmingham 1899.
Enamel Arms of Wigan applied in oval shaped badge to front flanked by limoge
enamel views of local buildings with round embossed plaques between representing
Astronomy, the Cotton Trade and Science above a border of thistles.

Enamelled Coats of Arms on either end of casket.

One Silver Gilt Freedom casket without lid on plinth.
Hallmarked Sterling Silver Birmingham 1914

Ornately engraved with limoge enamel likeness applied in oval frame on the front
flanked either side by limoge enamel views of local buildings in oval frames.

2 further limoge enamel views of local buildings on rear of casket flanking engraved
shield.

Engraved shield monogrammed with 1914 attached to top ledge of casket.
