“The Time with my Father”

First thing first ……
6 x World Championships = [5 x Fuel] + [1 x Engine & Fuel]
4 x European Championships = [3 x Fuel] + [1 x Engine & Fuel]
3 x Asia and Australasia Championships = [1 x Fuel] + [2 x Engine & Fuel]

All this, in a space of 10 years, from having driven 600 hours solo to formulate our 1st fuel and endless hours on the
track developing our engines to winning our last race together, the World Championship 2020, in Miami USA, with
both our fuel and engine. Not to mention, the preparation races in between all those Championships and countless Pole
Positions … or TQs, for those who know.

Thank you Papa … for believing in me and let me prove to myself that “We can”.

Those 10 years were my intimate journey through the realm of RC car racing (RC =Radio Controlled) with ‘Papa’, who
had introduced me to it when I was 6 years old. Those who are mathematically inclined would say, “but that’s 34 years”,
since my 40th Birthday was the first that ‘Papa’ wasn’t here. Even though you could well have been there … No doubt
‘Papa’.

Phufff …ff… “RC cars”, you say … Yes, RC cars and Yes, they are toy cars. But it takes a lot more than you think. Racing
these “Toy cars” require you to be one with it, through a 5th dimensional link or a 6th sense that you and your car
develop together over time. At the top level, you can feel the throttle response, a break fade, front tires under steering
and the rear sliding as the rear tires exceed their limits; all these through your fingers. These toy cars are designed by
companies which real car racing teams come to for suspension designs and material knowledge, including World Rally
and F1 teams. This is due to the immense forces we put these ‘Toy cars” through and yet amazed at the pure performance
they magically produce.

Competition wise … At a world championship where the competition is at its peak, during the 10 minutes qualification
heats, you can have 100 cars in the competition, finishing within 5 seconds of the overall time which includes 1 refueling
pit stop in each heat. In layman’s term, virtually, by the time you count 1 to 5, there would be 100 cars going across the
finish line. That’s 20 cars within the same second. That’s how tight the competition is and world’s top drivers can
produce lap times with a precision of one hundredth (0.01) of a second.

Thank you Papa … for introducing me to a world where I
could learn to appreciate 0.01 of a second, felt eternity in an
hour, made great friends and practised leadership.

The year was 2010. I was totally immersed in the scene,
rubbing shoulders with the best drivers in the world. Easily
ranked in the world’s top 50 and was sponsored by factory
teams in various classes, I was very happy to be able to
reduce the load on Papa’s wallet. Having climbed the ladder by
racing and getting sponsorships, I had the taste of the ‘factory
team spec’ equipment. It got me believing that private teams
have no chance, because what we get as factory team members
are much better than what are sold in the shops. Until one rare
day, Papa was able to watch me race. I felt very honored. Papa
felt that my fuel and engine package at the time was holding
me back as he was impressed with my driving.

With fatherly love, Papa said, “Lets go racing, we’ll make our own fuel and engine”, as Chira always does. Honestly,
I had my doubts, not with the fuel, as we are who we are with oils, but I expressed my concerns about the engines as I
thought, ‘how can we compete with the factory team’. Again, I didn’t know what Papa had up his sleeves. Papa said,
“Trust me”, so we began working and the rest was really ‘history’.

Thank you Papa … for the journey of realizations. At the time, every win and podium was for you, but now that I have
JarnWhan, I finally realize that you did it for me.

In racing, a car travels through ‘time’, on a track, lap
after lap. A lap consists of a sequence of corners and straights,
which repeats in a loop. On a given day and an equipment
package, at the optimum, the approach and exit of each
corner requires specific sequences of a driver’s inputs: through
flesh, blood and soul, that steers, throttles and brakes at a
particular tempo … Just like an instrument playing a song of
the ‘lap’ …

When the driver and all the components of the car perform
their tasks in their sequence as ‘one’, like a well rehearsed
orchestra, it is simply ‘music’.

I am so very blessed to be born into the jazzy sound of my mother singing to Papa, on the piano. That was ‘home’ to me,
and something to be missed, greatly. I miss playing with you, more, Papa. I like the moments that we coexist in those
‘easy 4 chords songs’ we played together when I was young. It was peaceful, calm, and we were always in the same
direction.

Thank you Papa … for the memories, experiences and ultimately, the lessons. Our last race together, you were sitting
trackside, the Miami sun was setting behind the exit straight, and you asked me, “Am I dreaming? Is this really
happening?”

You weren’t dreaming Papa. It did happen. We are World Champions.

สองเข้้ามาดููแล ตลอดเวลาที่�่อยู่�ท่ ี่�่บ้า้ น น้า้ จี๊�ด๊ ให้้ความเป็็นกันั เองและทำให้้เรารู้�สึกอบอุ่่�นตลอดเวลาที่อ่� ยู่�่ กัับท่า่ น น้้าจี๊ด�๊ ปฏิบิ ัตั ิิกับั เราสองคน
อย่่างไม่น่ ้อ้ ยไปกว่า่ น้้องๆ จ๊๊อป แจ๊๊บ จ๊๊าบ ทั้้�งสามเลย ถึึงกัับเคยเอ่่ยปากกัับคนใกล้้ชิิดว่่า “หมอดููบอกผมว่า่ ผมมีีลููกห้้าคน” เราดีีใจและ

หรืือต่่อว่า่ เมื่่อ� เวลาทำผิิดหรืือสร้้างปัญั หา นอกจากเวลาปลาชันั เข่่าบนเก้้าอี้ท� ี่่�โต๊๊ะอาหาร! มีีแต่จ่ ะหาโอกาสและพููดคุุยถึึงเรื่�องที่ท�่ ำให้ส้ บายใจ

น้้าจี๊๊ด� มีีความละเอีียดอ่่อน เมื่อ่� ครั้้�งที่เ�่ ปส์์เป็น็ หนุ่�มยังั สับั สนว่า่ อยากจะทำอะไร น้า้ จี๊�ด๊ ถามเปส์ข์ึ้�นมาว่่าว่า่ งไหม จะพาไปลอง
ขัับเครื่�่องบิิน และวัันนั้้น� ก็เ็ ป็น็ วันั ที่เ่� ปส์์บอกว่่า “จุุดประกายให้้ผม” จนกลายเป็น็ อาชีีพของเปส์์จนถึึงทุุกวัันนี้้�

สำหรับั ปลา เนื่่อ� งจากเป็็นผู้้�หญิิง น้้าจี๊๊�ดเลยปล่อ่ ยให้้น้า้ ตุ๋๋ย� เป็น็ ผู้้�ว่่าการ คนที่่ถ� ููกตำหนิิเลยกลายเป็น็ น้้าตุ๋ย�๋ แทน น้า้ จี๊ด๊� ดููจะไม่่

My Grandpa – Khun Poo

Grandpa was a cheerful man always laughing and smiling. At family dinners he would engage in
conversation with everyone. He supported all of us no matter what we did. In his younger days he founded many
companies, creating jobs for many people. These companies still support us and the people working in them to this day.
I hope that if he can read this he can reflect and look upon all the good he brought into the world. When I grow up I
aspire to be just like him and I hope that he can watch over me as I partake my journey.

Chira Ratanarat

Chira Ratanarat was a my grandpa. When I think of him I think, sure he had his ups and downs but all
and all he was a great person and I regret spending little time with him. I thought I could go see him tomorrow and
ended up not going, so only seeing him on Sunday’s because I knew that the next day he would be there and I could see
him tomorrow. But now that he is gone I really regret not seeing him and I hope that he enjoys a good afterlife and
watches over me. I hope he sees this and knows that I love him and that he can enjoy this letter. And whenever he is
down or bored he can look back at this letter and feel good and know that we still remember him in our hearts.
