FROM THE PRINICPAL’S DESK George Bernard Shaw rightly remarked, “Imagination is the beginning of creation. You imagine what you desire, you will what you imagine and at last you create what you will.” I am of the conviction that imagination is the highest of the human faculty- a gift our students are blessed with .They ‘draw’ freely upon their creativity. Vidyalaya Patrika is an excellent medium through which our promising young students showcase their creative potential which expresses itself in different forms. I am happy to place before you the E-magazine CREATIVE PANORAMA for the Session 2022-23, which treasures myriads of students’ expressions in the form of poems, articles, short stories, drawings etc… Views find expression in hues. Events are captured in time capsule to freeze beautiful moments we had during the Academic Session. I wish to place on record the achievements of students who earnestly strove towards excellence in the field of academics, sports and other coscholastic areas. Ability is what gave them the opportunity, and Belief is what got them there. BELIEF in oneself makes our DESTINY. Let us be a yardstick of belief and make further progress in all our endeavours! I congratulate the Editorial Board for accomplishing the task of bringing out this E-Magazine. BEST WISHES! PRINCIPAL KV CLRI

Once upon a time, there were four friends. Three of them were well educated. The fourth one was not educated, but intelligent. They decided to go to other cities to earn money and set out in search of opportunities. While passing through the forest, they came across some bones which lay scattered and immediately recognized that they were bones of a tiger. Before proceeding further, they decided to put their intelligence to test. So they thought of giving life to the tiger from the scattered bones. However, the one who was not educated cautioned his friends that in case they give life to the tiger, it will endanger their lives. However, the three educated friends did not pay heed to the word of caution. Hence, the friend who was not educated climbed to the top a tree. The first friend arranged the bones in a structured manner. The second one made arrangements for the skin around the body. The third friend arranged for the flow of blood by which the tiger was brought back to life. Immediately on regaining life, the tiger, true to its nature pounced and killed all the three friends who made efforts to bring it back to life. Even though the fourth friend was not educated, he was intelligent. Hence, he was saved from death. 34 THE LITTLE GIRL Once upon a time, there was a girl named Dharshini. She was an intelligent girl. And she liked to grow plants. She was growing a plant. Her mother told to speak to the plants daily, so that they grow well. So she spoke to the plants daily. She always studied well. She did not sit without a book. In the beginning her parents also encouraged. But after one month they realized she was not going out for play also. One day Dharshini had an exam, as usual she started to study. Her parents, told her to spend some time playing in between. But she said, ‘Mummy’ I have exams. next week.’ ‘ How will I play now.’. But in the exam hall she felt she forgot everything. She had no one to share her feelings except her dear coriander plant. She went to her dear plant and told everything and the plant told; “stop crying, do you know how I am growing well. By the right amount of soil, sunlight and water .. If there is more sunlight I will dry. If there is more water I will rot. If there is more soil I can’t germinate .Your life is also like that. Moral :Everything should be a limit in life. From that day, Dharshini divided her time for play and studies. Children “do not think, we can’t study if we play”. J .Reshma VI C KV CLRI One thing is to have a team of people with the right skills and experience. Sachin Tendulkar and many others are blessed with exceptional talents. But they would not have achieved half of what they have, had they not been good team players or possessed the intelligence to succeed. Almost all human beings are gifted with some talent, but very few people's talent prove to be sufficient for them to succeed. A good team work has mutual trust, takes the conflicts when they arise, is consciously working with commitment, holding each other accountable and focused on results. The first quality required in a team sport is team spirit or co-ordination with the team members. Without co-ordination, the team will not be able to perform anything in the game. It is well said, "Unity is strength" and it cannot be denied that a work done in unity is better and effectively done than the done alone. When people work in unit,y with different ideas but same aim that work surely will become a success. Team work is the key to success. A.V.BHAVANA10th ‘C’
THE DREAM It was a fine morning, the birds were chirping - the morning after a heavy rain, the sky bright and clear. Hannah woke up to find a dark portal right behind her standing mirror. As she came closer she felt a demonic voice. Her body was not in her control. She felt an energy pulling her into the portal. She gave up. Hannah found herself surrounded by bones of different creatures. And as she became conscious she felt a presence behind her. It was a creature that looked 9 feet tall with long nails that had one eye but 3 ears and 2 long legs. It introduced itself as Bellal-The king of evil. It started speaking with a deep growly voice “Hannah from earth, I-I- am Bellal the king of evil and the master of hell. I brought you here because I need a favour from you.” Hannah started to panic and began to pray but, Bellal said, “Your prayers aren’t going to work here. You have a task to finish up on another universe to return to your normal life on earth.” Hannah asked “But, why me?” Bellal answered, “There’s a reason behind everything. You have the purest soul on the earth and for the task you need to complete you need a pure soul.” “What is the work?” Hannah asked him with a trembling voice. “I, the king of evil have a master on top of me and my master feeds on the deadliest souls from different universe. But now we are running out of souls and there is only one soul that can fulfil my master’s hunger. But the owner of the soul is physically very strong but believes almost everything a pure soul says and for that you are the pure soul selected.” Hannah questioned, “What if I don’t do what I’m assigned to?” Bellal replied, “Its simple- you don’t get to live your life on earth and you will be stuck here forever.” And with that Hannah agreed and she was ordered to bring Amun Ra, the king of all gods from Egypt. Hannah was sent to the Egyptian era and in front of her stood a huge palace. Hannah entered it. The guards stopped her but she had made her mind and moved forward to meet the king sitting in his throne. As he turned all the guards knelt down and Hannah did the same. And she saw the figure of a huge owl. She started to speak, “ The Great fearless king AmunRa, the king of all gods, I’m here to take you to heaven by the order of an angel”. “And what is the purpose?” AmunRa asked. Hannah answered, “Because you are one of the greatest kings to exist in history”. Convinced by Hannah’s words Amun Ra accepted the invitation and followed Hannah into the portal. And to Amun Ra’s surprise he was taken down to the hell. But it was too late now. As they entered hell, a long war awaited between the king of all gods- Amun Ra and the king of evil Bellal. Bellal thanked Hannah for completing the task assigned to her. Now, Hannah woke up to find herself in her bedroom. She ran towards the standing mirror and looked behind it. There was nothing. Was it just a terrifying dream or was it really a task given to her by the king of evil? N.Lochana Srirupa, X B KV CLRI

AN EVENING AT THE BEACH We arrived at the beach at about 6:30 in the evening. My brother parked the car under a tree and we all got out. The smell of the sea was unmistakable. A gentle breeze blew. I stepped out of my sandals onto the soft sand. My brother, my cousin, two of our friends and I had come to the seaside just to watch the sun set. My cousin assured us that we would not be disappointed for he had seen it setting before and he said it was beautiful. We just had to see for ourselves. We sat on the sand and gazed at the western horizon. White and grey clouds could be seen but the sun was well hidden behind them. Nothing spectacular was happening and I felt a bit of impatient rising. I waited. Presently the white and grey clouds began to change colour. First they took on orange hues. Then Shades Of Red and yellow could be seen. In a short time the whole western sky seemed to be ablaze with a wild splash of gold, red, orange and yellow. I gazed at the spectacle in wonder. What a magnificent sight it was. I tried to focus on a particular part of the colourful scene but found that the colours were constantly changing. They changed very slowly and subtly although the scene appeared very still. A streak of gold here turned yellow and a splash of red there dissolved into hues of orange. It was quite impossible to describe this great wonder of nature in words. Shortly the hues became darker and hints of black were visible. The sun itself was visible for a moment appearing like a huge egg yolk. Then it began to disappear into the horizon. The shades of black became more obvious. Finally I watched the sun slowly sink into the sea. However the sky remained reddish even though the sun could no longer be seen. Suddenly, everything was dark. The sun had set and night took over. I became aware of mosquitoes attacking me. My cousin said it was time to go home. We got into the car. Indeed it had been a wonderful experience. S.R.Suraksha VIII A KV SCHOOL DAYS ARE FUN The first day to school after holidays is always fun but for that fun we need to work hard. During holidays teachers give us holiday Homework that too in every subject 2 or 3 assignments. If we are not able to complete it within the holidays then we need to face the consequences. Some students complete it to escape from the scoldings of the teacher. If we complete all those assignments within the time and we have some time left for school to reopen, then our parents advise us to study the upcoming chapters from every subject. Apart from all these things, we are bored. We don’t know what to do, we feel bored seeing television. If we complete all these things and we are done with everything and then when we step into the school, we will be like entering into the heaven. It will be like going to see our friends after a long time, to see whether there is any new friend joining our class. The most exciting thing is to look for new friends if anyone has joined during the holidays. I don’t think we would get these types of pleasant feelings anywhere else. People used to say, schools are the places where we have some golden memories and for all those people who went to school will never forget all those memories. One of the things that can’t happen again in our life is our school memories. Even if we wish to get punishments from the teacher also, we can’t get it once we step out of school. So, enjoy every single minute in our school. T. SUDHARSANRAJ IX C KV CLRI
THE BOOK THIEF BY MARKUS ZUSAK “I wanted to tell the book thief many things, about beauty and brutality. But what could I tell her about those things that she didn't already know? I wanted to explain that I am constantly overestimating and underestimating the human race-that rarely do I ever simply estimate it. I wanted to ask her how the same thing could be so ugly and so glorious, and its words and stories so damning and brilliant.” This is a small paragraph from THE BOOK THIEF by Markus Zusak. One of the most brilliant and impeccable books I’ve ever read. The Book Thief tells the story of Liesel, a little girl who is taken to a new home because her mother can't afford to take care of her. The story is told by Death, who becomes a character you come to respect and even feel sorry for by the end. The narration puts an odd perspective on the story. Much of what Death says is very philosophical, and even beautiful. This book is set in the WORLD WAR II time period. On the journey to her new home, Liesel's younger brother dies and she steals her first book: The Gravedigger's Handbook. When she arrives at her new home, she suddenly has a new mama and papa. Haunted every night by nightmares of her brother's death, Liesel and her Papa set themselves the challenge of reading the book, Liesel's last link to her brother. As she lives there, her love for books begins to grow. Taking risky steps, she steals books from many others, even rescuing one from a pile of burning books of the Nazi bonfire. My praise in this book is that I found it unique reading it from a person living in Germany’s point of view. How people became victims to the war, and they weren’t all evil as often as they are portrayed.. This book is pretty hard to process as it is a little poetic and graphic. It teaches you kindness, sympathy, empathy and a little bit of everything. It is extremely sad. I definitely found myself mourning silently. The sadness surrounding Liesel's story creeps up on you, until suddenly you realise that it was like this for so many, and how serious it was, and is. I would also like to thank Markus Zusak for writing such a fantabulous book by capturing millions of hearts with his writing skills and his thought process. I have no criticism for this book because it is ineffable. Prior to reading this book, I personally recommend you all to know the essential information about World War II as it’ll be easier to comprehend. There are a lot of twists in this book which is breath taking. I would personally give this a solid 9 for 10 as it helped me in life, vocabulary, strength and confidence and much more! I would definitely recommend readers above 14 to read it as it focuses on a different aspect of books rather than that of the usual. -Akshayaa Balaji X C KV CLRI
SITA “Dharma is about exchange, about giving and receiving, It is about outgrowing animal instincts, outgrowing fear, discovering the ability to feed others, comfort others, enable others to find meaning.” this is a quote I cherish from a winsome book called SITA by Devdutt Pattanaik. SITA is an illustrated retelling of the famous epic RAMAYANA but it is more comprehensible and Intelligible. The actual author of Ramayana is Ratnakar aka Valmiki. The Ramayana is an ancient Sanskrit epic which follows prince Rama’s quest to rescue his beloved wife Sita from the clutches of Ravana with the help of an army of monkeys. It is traditionally attributed to the authorship of the sage Valmiki and dated to around 500 BC to 100 BC. In Devdutt Pattanaik’s ‘Sita’, Sita is not a victim. She has grown up listening to the sages discuss the Upanishads. She lifts Shiva’s mighty bow with ease while no one in Mithila can, and kills Ravana’s twin in a fierce battle. She is wise and strong. A single mother to her sons, she is independent, not abandoned. It is Ram who is seen struggling to come to terms with what he must do as a king. He remains devoted to Sita, and walks into the river Sarayu chanting her name. What is implicit in the epic is made explicit. Pattanaik clarifies the difference between jati and varna, illustrates the importance given to fidelity (of both men and women), talks about the consequences when a man forces himself on a woman, and observes the inclusion of eunuchs in the narrative. My praise in this book is that it is narrated by lord Hanuman to the serpent Adiseshan. It conveys Ramayana from Sita’s eyes. It shows how strong Sita was as an independent individual, how she attends various conferences along with her father Janaka, how she is curious about whatever she learns and asks questions. I find this very different from the ones I’ve usually heard because RAM meeting SITA in Mithila’s royal garden is a very popular scene in dramas, movies etc but Sita lifting Shiva’s bow is not noticed nor appreciated. Devdutt Pattanaik’s Sita seeks to provoke thought, to Inspire, to expand one’s mind and realise one’s potential. The author points out the fallacies of human nature – humans value things over thoughts, judge instead of understanding another’s point of view, live in fear not faith. My only criticism about this book is the ending was a little fast paced. I would personally give this book a solid 9/10 as this book has helped me in life, improve vocabulary and much more. I would kindly request you all to read this book as it has a lot of useful information and helps you gain a lot of confidence AKSHAYA BALAJI 10C

ROLE OF YOGA IN MENTAL HEALTH Mental disorders have been as one of the most devastating disorders of mankind for two reasons. The first is its relatively widespread presence and the other reason is which it renders a person incapable of taking care of self. Practising yoga may help persons with mental illness in at least five ways. They are; • Calming effect by reducing the agitation. • Increasing awareness of oneself and of one’s surroundings. • Increasing the attention span with greater ease for longer periods. • Acceptance and adaptability to the world outside. • A sense of security. The other benefits of Yoga practice are improving concentration, memory, IQ, performance, emotional stability, self-esteem, conflict resolution, and reducing nervousness, anxiety, depression and tension. 42 Is career building the only goal of education? We must’ve heard people say, “study hard, only then you will secure a good job.” Indeed quality education is essential for a successful career, but is career building the only goal of education? Learning is the best path towards a successful and happy life, as it is conducive to better understanding of life, making us less susceptible to the influence of others. Also, all acquired knowledge can be used towards fulfilling one’s ambition. A good education does not give random bookish knowledge but a better understanding of their own and others’ purpose and rights in society. With education one acquires positive skills like coping with stress, teamwork, discipline and critical thinking along with development of social skills. High level of understanding means a higher confidence. Even if the environment proves unreceptive, a self-confident person will not let it affect their resolution as they know their capabilities. That is what education gives us-the realisation of our talents and potential. As a whole, proper education moulds us into better human beings. So, the next time when someone says that education is the key to empowerment, let us remember that we should study not just for the sake of employment but to attain excellence in all faces of life through education and to be better citizens. - K . S U B I T S H A X C KV CLRI A healthy mind, for a healthy body All of us will have to face struggles from time to time but good mental health helps us bounce back and stay in control when time gets tough. Being in a state of good mental health allows us to maintain healthy relationships as well as physical well-being. Plus, we can make solid life decisions for the betterment of ourselves and those around us. While we still may be subject to forces beyond our control there are simple ways to sustain our mental health. Having a balanced diet, regular exercises, keeping our body hydrated, practicing meditation and having enough sleep promote our mental health along with our overall health. Maintaining a journal to express our feelings and following our hobby will make us take interest in life. Listening to soft music helps too. Following a schedule avoids tension and confusion. It will help us finish our tasks on time and we will feel having more control in life as well. 46 PIGEON AND ANT- the story that I liked. On a hot summer day, an ant was searching for some water. After walking around for some time, she came near the river. She climbed up on a small rock to drink water, While trying to drink water, she slipped and fell into the river. There was a pigeon sitting on a branch of a tree who saw an ant falling into the river. The pigeon quickly plucked a leaf and dropped it into the river near the struggling ant. The ant moved towards the leaf and climbed up onto it. Soon, the leaf drifted to dry ground, and the ant jumped out. She looked up to the tree and thanked the pigeon. Later, the same day, a bird catcher nearby was about to throw his net over the pigeon hoping to trap it. An ant saw him and guessed what he was about to do. The pigeon was resting and he had no idea about the bird catcher. An ant quickly bit him on the foot. Feeling the pain, the bird catcher dropped his net and let out a light scream.
