My dear friend Anjali,
How are you? I am !ne. Today, I want to
tell you about the works I do at home
and at school. Anjali, I get up early in
the morning. I make my bed and I go to
bathroom. I brush my teeth and wash
my face. I put toothpaste, toothbrush,
soap and towel in their proper place. I
do not make bathroom dirty. I drink a
glass of milk. Then I study for a while.
My grandfather says we must make a
habit to study in the morning.
I arrange my books, copies, pencil-
box and put them in my school
bag. I always make sure that I do
not forget my things. I wear my
school uniform and shoes. I go
to the kitchen to eat food. I help
my mother to bring plate, to serve
food and to !ll water in glass. I keep
my plate and glass in proper place
for washing. My mother becomes
happy when I help her.
Note to the teacher: Encourage students to do simple and easy works by themselves. Tell them the
meaning and importance of being self dependent. Let the students talk about the works they do,
can do and enjoy doing. They can learn more through interaction, and from each other.

We keep our classroom
clean and tidy. I take part

She tells other students to
be like me.
At home, I help my
father to water plants
and "owers. I help my
grandparents to lay gundri
(straw mat) outside. They
like to sit in the sun. I also
bring them glass of milk
and water to drink. I have
a younger brother. I help
him to wash his face and
hands. I help him to eat
food when my mother is
busy. I give him toys. I play
with him when he is alone.
He becomes very happy
when I return home after

them that they were built by none other than their grandparents.
Their names were inscribed on a stone slab at the Chautara. They
became very happy and proud to read these great people’s
names.
Their mother said
“Your grandparents
are very kind and
generous. They
always want to help
people. They built
this Chautara and
installed a water tap
so that passersby can
drink and rest a while
when they are tired
and thirsty. Whoever
passes by this way
always remembers
and thanks them. I’m sure their good works will always be
remembered. Just like your grandparents, we too should do
good works so that the people would always remember us.
Won’t you follow your grandparents’ footsteps when you grow
up?”
Surya and Tara: “Yes, mother# We’ll. We want to be like our
grandparents.”

Grandmother: Children today, I’m going to tell you a very nice
story.
Once there was a small boy named Shankar. He was very poor.
One day, while he was walking through the forest carrying some
woods, he saw a hungry old man. Shankar wanted to give him
some food, but he had no food to give. So he continued on his
way. On the way, he saw a deer that was very thirsty. Shankar
wanted to give him some water, but he had no water to give.
So he went on his way ahead. Then he saw a man who was

making a hut. The man asked Shankar to give him some wood.
He gave some woods to the man to make hut. In return, the
man gave Shankar some food and water.
Then Shankar went back and gave the old man some food.
He gave some water to the deer. The old man and the deer
became very happy with him.
Unfortunately, one day Shankar fell down the hill. He was badly
hurt on his legs and couldn’t move. The old man, whom Shankar
had given food, saw him. He quickly came and pulled Shankar
up the hill. The deer to which Shankar had given water, was
also there. He was so sad to see his wounds. It quickly ran into
the forest and brought some herbs for Shankar. Miraculously,
Shankar’s wound got healed soon. They all became very happy
for being able to help each other in need.
Grandmother: Children, what do you learn from this story?

Chanda: Sahara, today ma'm is going to give us lots of math
homework for winter vacation. I can’t copy fast correctly

with one eye wearing
black spectacles.
Sometimes I feel very
sad.
Sahara: Don’t worry , Chanda#
I will request ma'm
