Lesson Locomotor Skills

21

Walking, Running, Jumping and Throwing are locomotor
skills. In these skills a player will change his/her place while
performing different activities of locomotor skills. Athletics is

etc. We will walk in different ways like
forward, backward, in line, in zigzag line,
etc. It is a kind of warm up exercise. Not only
walking, let us do these following activities.

1. We will run three minutes in circle
2. We will run by lifting our legs up to the waist level.
3. We will run by taking a full circle in left side

Blooming Science, Health and Physical Education Book 3 205

Running

Running is the way to move our legs faster towards forward
direction. It is the best exercise for our health. It maintains our
body in good condition. Now, I will cross the 30 meter distance
easily with friends. Not only one or two days, I have to practice

activities, which leg I will take off, the same leg I will place on
the ground. It can be performed by one or two legs. I can reach
there by hopping with one leg. Let us practice.

20 meterSkipping

Jump over a rope which is hold at both ends by oneself
or two other people and turned repeatedly over the head and
under the feet known as skipping. It is good exercise of legs,
arms, chest and muscle of the body. Let us practice skipping.

using our legs. It is the best exercise for us. It helps to make our
body and mind healthy. I will easily turn in the air by jumping.
I will reach 20 meter distance by jumping. Let us practice for
jumping.

Blooming Science, Health and Physical Education Book 3 207

I can jump 50 c.m. easily
It is very enjoyable to cross over the rope by keeping two poles
in both side. Scissor style will be easy to cross over the rope.

I will catch the rope with my friends to help my friends for
jumping.

208 Blooming Science, Health and Physical Education Book 3

Throwing

Throwing is to send something in the air with force
by using our hand. It makes our arm’s and hand’s muscle
very strong. We will throw different types of balls like hand
ball ,volley ball and cricket ball for practicing.

Lesson

22 Non-Locomotor Skills

Non locomotor skills are the skills which are basic
movements that are done while in contact with the ground.
We do not change our position while doing these activities.
It is also a good exercises for our body which make our body
physically fit, strong, healthy and flexible. Here we will perform
different exercises by bending, laying, standing, etc.

will climb up and climb down in pole and rope. While doing
these activities, we should be very careful and perform such
activities over soft mattress. It helps to keep our hands and
legs muscles strong.

Swinging

We will swing in the horizontal and vertical bars. We can
swing in a rope also. But we have to be very careful while
swinging in the horizontal bar and in a rope. It is good exercise
for our health.

Climbing

We will climb in a rope and pole. First we will climb short
height and slowly we will increase the height. We should
perform these activities carefully. Specially, both hands and
legs are used to climb rope and pole. It helps to keep our
hands, legs and stomach muscles strong.

Drill is performed in a group. It is a kind of discipline
training. It is reputed physical activity done under the command
of a commander, leader or teacher. It is performed in file. While
performing drill, both line and file should be straight. It helps to

Lesson Simple Games

25

We like to play games. It will be fun while playing games
with friends. So, we play games every day with friends by
creating simple games and by using simple rules for making
our body healthy and smart.

one hand and wait for another touched student at a corner.
In such way, pair will increase and they continue to chase the
remaining players. A student who will be at the last will be
the winner.

Activity: 2

Chain Tagging

This game is also simple game. It is played by making boundary
line. While playing this game, one student will be a leader or
dum and chase to the other students. If he/she touches, he/

Again he/she will touch the student, catch one hand and chase
to other students by making like a chain. In such way the
number of touched. Students increase then the chain also will
be increased and continue the game. At last, one student who
is not touched will be the winner of the game.

Other wise goat will trap the bagh. If bagh will eat all the
goat, bagh will win if goats will trap the bagh, goats will win.
In such way baghchal is played.

Dandibiyo

Dandibiyo is very old and popular game of Nepal. While
playing this game we need a longer wood stick called dandi
and a smaller stick called biyo. It is played between two

If not caught opponent players, throw biyo to touch specified
place. If not touched specified place the player start to hit
biyo to make many count and add all the count from every
players. Both groups play turn by turn and which group will
reach in target first they will be winner.

Playing ball will be very interesting and enjoyable. We can
play ball in various ways. While playing ball, our body will be
active and healthy. We can play ball by bouncing, throwing and

Gymnastics is a sport involving physical exercises and
movements. It is a kind of technique to stretch, bend and roll
our body. Such techniques help us to balance our body, make
light and flexible. It helps us to keep our body fit, strong, smart
and healthy. Here we will do some different exercises.

on the ground by making our body straight. Both hands should
be just under the chest. Raise our chest from the ground and
touch the ground with chest. In such way we will repeat up to
eight times.

Balancing the body

When balancing the body, we will extend both hands in
our shoulder level and stand with one leg. Swing another leg
eight time. Same way we will do with another leg also turn by
turn.

Hand stand

This exercise helps to make our hands strong. In this
exercise, we will raise our both legs up by placing our hands
on the ground. Later on if we practice more, we can balance
our body with our hands. While doing this exercise, we have
to take support from our friend.

Box cartwheel

While performing cartwheel, we will practice by using
low height box. Later on we will practice without using box.
While performing cartwheel, we will place our left hand on the
ground by raising one leg up then we will place right hand on
the ground by raising both legs up and land on the ground.
