the river. Very soon he was brought safe to the bank.
David was nervous. “Who are you and where do you live?”, one of the people
asked.
“I am David. I live near this park”. David replied. Two men brought David his

Long long ago in Hamelin, a small town in
Germany, the people had to suffer a great
problem. The town had thousands of rats.
These rats were big and dangerous. They
were so big and dangerous that they used to
attack dogs and cats. They used to bite the
babies in their cradles. People were fed of the
rats. There was no solution to this problem.
Lastly the people complained this to the
Mayor of the town. The Mayor decided to discuss this problem in a meeting.
The Mayor held a meeting of important people of the town. While the meeting
was going on, a stranger came. He was tall. He wore a Scan Here

this town get rid of rats. But for this I shall take one thousand coins of gold,”
said the stranger.
“We are ready. We will give you even much more than that if you make this
town free of rats,” said the Mayor.
The tall man came out of the Mayor's building. He came to the street, took out
his pipe and started playing a tune. And what a surprise! The rats came out
from houses, shops, godowns and other places to the street.
The piper moved on. The rats followed the piper. He went forward to the river.
There was a boat on the bank of river. He sat on the boat. The boat man
sailed the boat. The piper continued playing his pipe.
The rats dived into the river. They were all drowned in river water and died.
The people were very glad. They got rid of the rats. They sang and danced
the whole night.
Next day in the morning, the piper came to the Mayor to take his one
thousand gold coins.
“This is too much,” said the Mayor, “we can pay you only one hundred gold
coins”.
The piper became angry. He shouted, “you dirty liar! You did not keep your
promise. You would have to repent for this”.
Once again the piper came out to the street and took out his pipe. This time
he started playing a different tune. Hearing this tune, all children of the town
came out of their houses and started following the piper. The Piper came to a
mountain side. Suddenly the side of the mountain opened up. The Piper
walked inside. All children followed him. Only one, a small child who was
