Both my brother and my dad are
plumbers so I’ve grown up around
the industry. From an early age
a career in plumbing certainly
appealed to me. I see the fact that
there aren’t many female plumbers
as a huge positive rather than a
negative, it means there could be
more work for me when I qualify as
some customers do prefer to have
a female in the house rather than
a male.

I’d certainly encourage any other
females interested in a construction
trade to go for it, unless you try
you’ll never know how rewarding
it can be. In fact, I’d say to anyone
interested in learning a trade,
it’s not often publicised that it
actually opens the door to a wide
range of careers, not just that one
specific role. You can progress in
health and safety roles, teaching
or management. Don’t think that
learning to be a plumber means
you’ll remain a plumber for the rest
of your life!

Coming to college is one of the
best decisions I’ve made. It sounds
cheesy but I honestly look forward
to every day that I’m here learning.

With a wide range of courses on offer at Chesterfield
College you’ll learn everything you need to get your
career in hairdressing and beauty underway. Our
teachers are experienced professionals offering a
wealth of current industry experience and knowledge.
They also have excellent relationships with local
employers, many of which use our department as a
recruitment avenue for new staff and apprentices.

We also have our very own on-campus hair and
beauty salon where you can work on real paying
clients. You’ll get the experience of working and
