EXPLORE TRAVEL
AGENCY WINS
INDUSTRY AWARD
Thanks to the hard work of students, our travel agency,
Explore, was crowned the top college travel agency at the
Hays Independent Travel awards ceremony.
After only one year of operating, Explore has exceeded sales
targets to become the highest earning college travel agency
across the country. These efforts, along with excellent customer
service standards and exemplary education opportunities for the
industry, has earned them this prestigious award.
Running a commercial enterprise like this in college gives our
students the opportunity gain practical and realistic experiences
in a work environment. This enhances what they learn in the
classroom and gives them a competitive edge in the jobs market.
01246 500500
Staff, students and corporate clients make use of the travel
agency located in the busy Heartspace of the Infirmary Road
campus, returning again and again to get great travel deals. In its
first year Explore has sold 785 accommodation nights and sent
683 passengers to destinations far and wide across the world.
Chris Oakes, Head of Hays Travel Independence Group explains:
“The workplace and work ethic of the team at Chesterfield
College is second to none. They have smashed their own
targets, however the award is not just about sales it’s about
working hard, attitude and collaboration - any new colleges
coming on board now visit Chesterfield, as it is the perfect
example and blueprint for our new college members. It is
a fantastic achievement and we are proud to work with an
agency that provides such a quality service at the same time
as developing the next generation of industry experts.”

Ben Barnicoat
Formula 3 driver for Hitech GP
I really enjoyed the Level 3 course,
it boosted my overall knowledge
of automotive technology and
engineering. That’s the whole
reason I wanted to do the course
really. I race at Formula 3 level for
Hitech GP and as such I wanted
to know more about the inner
workings of the car.
By learning more about cars in
general I can use my skills to
identify the problem if my car ever
breaks down or is failing. I can
then relay the information to the
team’s mechanics quickly which
saves time, something vitally
important when in a race!
It also gives me a plan B in life just
in case my racing doesn’t work
out, it gives me a solid set of skills
to fall back on. I’ve also made
loads of friends on the course
who I really value as when I’m
travelling the world racing it can
be difficult to make good friends
moving from place to place.
It’s been a great experience as the
facilities are fantastic. I could work
with cars, take them to pieces
and then put them back together
again, learning practically with my
hands alongside the important
theoretical classroom work. I’d
definitely recommend the course
to anyone with an interest in cars.
