HISTORY OF

Dayasari Residential College is the fifth college built in
University of Malaya to accommodate students. The
Fifth College was officially opened by Prof. Francis
Morsingh in June 1966.
The college also accommodates PALAPES
students beginning from the 1997/98 session.
The unity, dedication, hardwork and harmony of
all the residents are the main thrust of our
success. The college continuously strives for
excellence in all areas we participate in.
On the 20th December 1986, the college was officially
renamed to Dayasari Residential College. The name Dayasari is
derived from the word "Daya" which means initiative or energy
and "Sari" means quality. The combination of "Daya Sari"
portrays the promotion of any quality initiative in the Fifth
College.

Greetings

Master of Fifth Residential College

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jal Zabdi Bin Mohd Yusoff

Assalamualaikum and greetings everyone,

First of all, I would like to express my highest gratitude toward
the members of the Celestia V yearbook team for pulling off
an amazing work publishing this magazine.

It is to be my hope that this project is able to capture the
memories of Dayasarians throughout the year. Although with the
current pandemic of Covid-19, and all the SOP needed to be abided,
the amazing minds of our residents were able to pull off countless interesting and fun
activities for all.

Because of this, we were able to reveal the hidden talents of our students, covering all aspects
such as academics, sports, humanity, creativity and spirituality. All the commitment and hard
work poured out by everyone will be our greatest memories
as Dayasarians.

As the residents of the well-known college at the Universiti Malaya, may the glory of the
Fifth Residential College will always shine. Also, I wish that the upcoming members of
this college can follow in the footsteps of 2020/21 residents in the futures.

Thank you.

DAYASARI 2020/2021

THE START OF A NEW BEGINNING

JOURNALIST: NUR BALKHIS mskp
8TH-13RD AUGUST 2020

8TH AND 7TH AUGUST 2020
MARKED THE DATE WHERE THE

BRIGHT SUN AND THE CLEAR
SKIES OF FIFTH RESIDENTIAL

COLLEGE (DAYASARI) OF
UNIVERSITI MALAYA

WELCOMED 585 PASUM
STUDENTS THIS YEAR. DESPITE
THE CURRENT PANDEMIC AND

VARIOUS STANDARD
OPERATING PROCEDURES (SOP)

THAT NEEDED TO BE ABIDED
BY, THE FLOW OF THE EVENT
ON BOTH DAYS WAS SMOOTH

WITH THE HELP OF THE
AMAZING FACILITATORS
COMPRISING PASUM STUDENTS
FROM THE PREVIOUS SESSION.

MSKP OR ALSO KNOWN AS UM WEEK OF WELCOME
(UM-WOW), WHICH INVOLVED ALL RESIDENTS OF KK5,
BEGAN FROM 10TH AUGUST 2020 UNTIL 13TH AUGUST
2020. THROUGHOUT THE EVENT, STUDENTS WERE ABLE

TO GET TO KNOW EACH OTHER BETTER AND FORM
BONDS WITH ONE ANOTHER.

THE ENDING OF THE EVENT WAS HEARTFELT WHEN
BOTH STUDENTS AND FACILITATORS SANG THE SONG
CALLED PULANG AT THE END OF THE CEREMONY. IT
WAS A VERY MEMORABLE EVENT SINCE IT SYMBOLIZED

THE BEGINNING OF OUR JOURNEY HERE AS
DAYASARIANS.

professionalism in handling future projects
in the college. The two-day event took place
at The Dayasari Ballroom, accommodating
project directors, secretaries and treasurers.

Kicked-off with an amazing ice-breaking
session, participants had the chance to gain
new knowledge in handling their respective

projects. This includes procedures of
borrowing items, standard operational
procedures during events, meritocracy
system, sponsorship, secretaryship and
finance. An amazing demonstration of event
protocol was handled by Puan Mastura
Mohd Yusoff ranging from the arrangement
of VIPs’ seating to the sizing of buntings or

banners for promotional events.

24-26 September 2020

Student managed events kicked
off with a week of patriotism-
centric events. Minggu Aspirasi
Negaraku was held to instill a
deeper love for the country and its
history in the students besides
giving the students some room to
enjoy their favourite games from
their childhood. The curtains
called to reveal the first event in

the week’s lineup was the
Deklamasi Sajak competition.
Held at our Dayasari ballroom on
the first day, aspiring poets belted
out their deeply melancholic and
awe-inspiring verses that told tales

of justice and loyalty.
The day after, students went head
to head in teams to see who still

had skills in 'kain batik' or 'kain
pelikat' futsal and 'baling selipar'.
To quote one of the participants in
the 'kain pelikat' futsal league, “It
was fun and all, except for the fact
that I kept tripping over my 'kain',”

with a laugh.

On the night of the 25th, a
movie screening was held at the
Dayasari ballroom with a limit of
only 180 seats. Students came in
droves to watch a screening of

the sad story 'Pulang' while
enjoying popcorn and treats

sold by the committee.
Other than that, an online quiz
was also put up on Quizizz to
see which students were the
most history savvy besides an
online independence poetry

competition.
To close the week off, a
closing ceremony was held on
the night of the 26th with
amazing performances of the
'Ngajat', 'Zapin' and 'Canggung'
dances, a fan dance, a mini-
orchestra and singing. Hats off
to Ainnur Rifhan for organising
the exhilarating and

educational week!

BATTLE OF
BLOCK E

Project Manager: 30TH SEPTEMBER 2020 -
Muhammad Haiqal 2ND OF OCTOBER 2020
Irfan Razali
In a surprising turn of events, this project worked out
JOURNALIST: wondrously and zealously under the wing of Mr Haiqal
Aina Nabilah
Irfan who led it until it came to abundant fruition.
Taking place between the walls of the Episcia block,
the courts of the Fifth College, and in the Dayasari
Ballroom, the event that was held over the course of
three days became a massive hit with its participants
as everyone had an explosive time bonding over the
planned activities and competitions held according to

the set itinerary.
On the night of the thirtieth, the drumming of buckets
and a storm of forks was what greeted the spectators

of the Makan Jangan Tak Makan competition as
participating groups huddled over buckets filled with
a huge portion of Maggi made to be eaten as quickly

as possible. To think that everyone survived the
ordeal without losing their prior dinners and lunches
was a miracle. The finals of the Futsal Bola-bola Api,

Sepak Takraw Libas and E-Sports competitions
ensued on the first of October, with the winners
decided and a talent competition session held later

that night with the slot titled, ‘Block E Got
Talents’. And got a talent they did.

The closing ceremony was held on the night
of the second of October, with a karaoke

session and a cordial and hearty feast held to
end the night on a high and upbeat note.

Upon totalling up the scores accumulated by
the winners of each competition, it was

decided that the overall prize went to Block
E’s third floor! Through all the banter and

competitive challenges, a sense of
brotherhood and good sportsmanship was
imbued in each of the competitors and even

the spectators, since of course,

Sambutan Ambang Maulidur Rasul 1441H

The Birthday Of Our Beloved Prophet

Project Manager: Nazmi Faiz bin Fauzul Azam

The Maulidul Rasul or the birth of our prophet Nabi Muhammad S.A.W was one of the biggest events among
the Muslims that must be celebrated every year, the Surau Hidayah Club managed to held this amazing event

Kursus The preparation
Umrah
for UMRAH

Journalist: Adib Rifqi

Umrah and Hajj are some of the

16 JANUARY 2021 important things in Islam. As
Muslims, it is our responsibility to

Pengarah projek: Nur Aisyah perform Umrah and Hajj at least once
Binti Abu Seman in our lifetime to full fill our duties.
With the pandemic that occurred

these days, it was hard to learn those

community have decided to make an online course for PASUM students to kinds of stuff. Hence the JTK

learn about Umrah in order to help the students to prepare for the invitation

from God to Mecca.

It was set up online in Microsoft Teams under the JKP KEP, Nur Aisyah Binti

Abu Seman as the project manager. The date 16th January of 2021 had been

chosen for the course to occur from 8:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A special guest, Hj

Mohd Akib Bin Hj Abdullah was invited as the lecturer in charge of the course

as well.

The program started off with a prayer from Muhammad Faris to gain

blessing for the program before the course started. Hj Mohd Akib was an

expert Mutawwif. Since 2000, he worked as a person who guided others in
Umrah or Hajj. He began his lecture by reminding the students what

type of deeds had been rejected by Allah. It was like a precaution

before we would go to Mecca. The programme taught students the

basic concept of Umrah and every step we needed to take starting

from the moment we entered Mecca, as well as what we were going to

do in front of the Kaaba. He also taught the students everything about

what could cause the Umrah to not be accepted and what we should

achieve at the end of Umrah.

At the end of the day, the students would at least know the basic

knowledge of Umrah even though this pandemic limited the activities

that could be done in order to give students the best understanding

of Umrah. But still, courses like this already helped the students in

order to prepare themselves for Umrah.

On 5 to 6 December 2021, Jawatankuasa Perkembangan Akademik dan

Intelektual (JKP ADIN) of Fifth Residential College and Eleventh

Residential College presented the very first collaboration between the

two colleges with a grand event: Debat Perdana PASUM and PASUM

English Debate. This online debate event collected intellectuals of both

colleges, supporting and opposing their motions with credible and

confident arguments.
This project focuses on
rising students’ interest in
public oration. The line of
honourable adjudicators
for the final round starts
with Ms Zulaika Zamaludin,
Mr Muhammad Shahidil bin
Saril and Mr Sharil Syafie
for the Malay category and
Dr Zuliana Razali, Associate
Profesor Dr Chandran
Somasundram and Mr
