MINISTRY OF HIGHER EDUCATION

Preface

by the Director General of Higher Education
Department of Higher Education
Ministry of Higher Education

Malaysia is a sought-after destination for international students looking to further their
education due to its uniqueness in racial diversity, panoramic beauty, national progress,
strategic location and world-class education. Likewise, Malaysians are fortunate to have
the opportunity to enjoy world-class educational facilities at a lower rate compared to
other countries within the Southeast Asia region.

Higher education is the driver of the Malaysian economy and has a high economic
multiplier effect. Various initiatives have been implemented by the Government to
achieve the goal of hosting 250,000 international students by the year 2025.

The Education Tourism (Edutourism) programme is one of the new initiatives introduced
towards achieving this goal. In line with the Government’s aspirations, this book
(#myEdutourism) has been published to function as a promotional instrument for
the programme. It also delivers information on the various programmes offered by
participating Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). Additionally, it provides destination
selections as well as targeted learning guidelines to potential students.

I would like to thank and congratulate members of the editorial committee of the Ministry
of Higher Education and participating HEIs for their time, effort and commitment in
publishing this book. Let us remain committed in ensuring that this initiative benefits
local and international students alike.

Message

(Research and International)
Department of Higher Education
Ministry of Higher Education

The Edutourism programme is a combination of tourism and education activities that
takes place with a minimum period of 1 day (8 hours) and a maximum period of 6 months.

This programme aims to promote Malaysian HEIs as a centre for tourism in addition to the
regular teaching and learning activities. It intends to develop personal and socio-cultural
networks between international participants and local students as well as stimulate the
country’s economic growth through value chain activities and related support industries. It
aspires to further establish and maintain Malaysia as an international education hub that is
comparable to those in developed countries.

To actualise this, the Department of Higher Education has collaborated with Higher
Education Institutions (HEIs) and Tourism Malaysia to develop a book entitled Edutourism
(#myEdutourism). This book consists of 168 Edutourism packages offered by 20 Public
Universities and 15 Private HEIs. This book is geared towards providing information,
promoting Edutourism packages to students, tourists, and the public as well as industry
entrepreneurs.

In line with the vision and mission of the Department of Higher Education and the
aspirations outlined by the Government through the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2015-
2025 (Higher Education) under Shift 8 on Global Prominence, I am confident that the
publication of this book is timely and a noble effort that will benefit many.

Finally, I would like to congratulate the team that has been involved in the publication of
this book for their efforts and dedication.

that are organised by Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Malaysia. The
duration of this programme ranges between 1 day (8 hours) to 6 months and

activities;

2. To increase the number of international student enrolment in Malaysia;

3. To develop personal and socio-cultural networks between international
participants and local students; and

4. To stimulate the country’s economic growth through value chain activities
