DRUG ALBUM
PKD HULU SELANGOR
UPDATED FEBRUARY 2021
INTRODUCTION
The Drug Album PKDHS is a publication of the Pharmacy
Department. The positive feedback from nurses, pharmacists and
doctors has been encouraging as we continue to strive to provide a
useful rapid reference to all healthcare professionals regarding the
medications available in our facility in Hulu Selangor.
Identifying and recognizing medication had become a great
challenge for healthcare providers and patients. Most healthcare
providers will identify a drug by its generic or brand name while patients
recognized the drug by its appearance. There are numerous images of
drugs described by patients depending on its shape, colour and brand
names. However, the current diversity in drug appearances had
complicate drug identification process. A miscommunication during
consultation might undoubtedly lead to medication error.
Hence, the availability of this drug album will certainly help in
improving our healthcare services as well as reducing the risk for
medication errors. With the present-day technological development,
availability of soft copy version of the drug album ease the healthcare
providers to access this drug album wherever and whenever they need.
i
OBJECTIVES
The objectives of this drug album are to:
1. Serve as a reference for the healthcare workers as well as the patients
2. Allow healthcare professional to show it to patients and identify the
medications that are being taken by them
3. Serve as one of the methods to prevent medication errors
4. To enable pregnant women to develop the knowledge of safety of the
medication usage
5. To assist breastfeeding mothers on the safety of the medications.
6. To allow patients for a better understanding and insight to the
medications and emphasize on important counselling points for every
