6HEAD COACHTHFCThere are, of course, mixed emotions. While it hurt to exit the Champions League, it was a hugely positive display which showed the team we can be and builds some momentum heading into an important game this afternoon. The energy, intensity and desire we showed from the first whistle to the last was outstanding. Even when Atletico equalised on two separate occasions, our character shone through, responding in the best possible way and retaking the lead each time.We kept fighting and pushing until the very end, creating a lot of good chances and, on another night, could have scored more and won the tie. However, it wasn’t to be and our focus had to quickly turn back to the Premier League for today’s visit of Nottingham Forest.igortudorI’m extremely proud of the players for their performance against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night.TH23_06-07_Manager 2.indd 6 19/03/2026 12:27

7HEAD COACHTHFC“KEEP FIGHTING WITH US. KEEP ROARING US ON. KEEP BELIEVING. WE WON’T GIVE UP”Forest may be going through a tough spell at the moment, however they cannot be underestimated with a squad of talented players and a never-say-die attitude. It’s going to be a tough test and, in Vitor Pereira, they have a head coach who knows exactly what it takes to climb away from the wrong end of the table.Against Atletico, the atmosphere inside the stadium was electric. The players gave you a performance you could identify with, be proud of and get behind – and you roared them on from start to finish. That is unity and togetherness, from the stands to the pitch. And that is what this stadium needs to sound like every game. Together, we can be so powerful and you can be an inspiration for us, to drive us forward and back up the Premier League table.I’ve heard about the plans to line the streets and welcome the team bus to the stadium this afternoonI can’t wait to see it and experience it. That level of passion and dedication means so much to us and it will motivate the players going into such an important game.We know how much you care about this team and this Club – and please be assured, everyone here feels exactly the same.We are fighting every minute of every day to finish the season in the strongest possible way, because that’s what this team – and you – deserve.Keep fighting with us. Keep roaring us on. Keep believing. We won’t give up.TH23_06-07_Manager 2.indd 7 19/03/2026 12:27

8MATCHDAYTHFCNAME CHECK…parker• We have hosted Nottingham Forest eight times in the Premier League with none of those games ending level (W4 L4), the joint most we’ve faced a side at home in the competition without ever drawing (P8 W6 L2 v Brighton).• Richarlison has either scored (2) or assisted (2) in four of his five Premier League appearances against Nottingham Forest.• Richarlison has scored nine goals in the Premier League this season, despite starting fewer than half of our games (14/30).• Elliot Anderson has made more successful passes than any other midfielder in the Premier League this season (1,679), while he also leads all Forest players for chances created (45).• Nottingham Forest are winless in seven Premier League games (D4 L3), while only bottom side Wolves (15) have failed to score in more games than Forest this term (14).PARKER, SCOTTPopular all-action midfielder who joined us from West Ham in August 2011, finishing his first term as the club’s Player of the Season for 2011-12. They don’t get much bigger than this.Vitor Pereira’s side arrive in north London just one place and one point below us in the table. For Spurs, it’s now 13 matches since we beat Crystal Palace, while Forest are eight games without a Premier League victory, their last being a 2-0 win at Brentford on 25 January.Today’s visitors have struggled to score goals, netting just 28 from 30 matches and only Wolves (24) have scored fewer. Morgan Gibbs-White is their top scorer with eight. We’d had a good record against Forest, winning six on the bounce in the league between 1998-2024, the last one a 3-1 victory in April 2024 when Micky van de Ven and Pedro Porro scored along with a Murillo own goal. Forest have since won the last three including a 3-0 triumph in December. One thing seems likely though, based on head to head results – today’s game won’t be a draw! In 17 Premier League meetings, we’ve only drawn once with Forest and that was a 2-2 scoreline in March 1995. PARKER, GARRYGoalscoring midfielder signed for Forest by Brian Clough in March 1988. Won two League Cup winners’ medals while at the City Ground and was in their team that lost the 1991 FA Cup Final to Spurs. Of course, they went all the way that season, Trevor Francis with the winner in the final against Malmo.Keith Burkinshaw’s side finished mid-table on our return to Division One and in this week of 1979 – on 24 March – we beat Aston Villa 3-2 with goals from Chris Jones and Glenn Hoddle (2). 1 1ROB DALYTHFCRob Daly, official club commentator, presenter and pundit, offers his expert analysis and discusses some of the key talking points ahead of today’s game. The outstanding Atletico win and resolute draw at Liverpool point to a Spurs team turning a corner – so how can some of the young stars hurt Nottingham Forest today?AWESOME ARCHIEIt was a heartwarming moment when Archie Gray, following the edge of the pitch after his secondhalf substitution, was picked out by Atletico midfielder Marcos Llorente, who jogged over for a handshake and embrace. This unprompted gesture of respect was to acknowledge just how good the 20-year-old had been in the second leg - a sentiment echoed by a standing ovation.Gray’s running, dribbling, close control, choice of pass and timing of tackle were all spot on – with Igor Tudor keen to stress that midfield is his best position.“He’s playing continually in the right way, in a good way. It’s a mix of quality, physically and mentally, to always make the right choices and be humble and have (the) legs to do so.”FLUID FORMATIONSpurs’ cohesion, work rate and chance creation, which gave Atleti a fright, were extremely promising for the Premier League run-in.Tactically, Spurs often looked like a 4-4-2 with Pedro Porro playing right wing and Radu Dragusin behind him. But given the starting line-up, sometimes Porro and Djed Spence operated as wingbacks, with many expecting a 3-4-3 given the team named. Regardless, the formation was fluid and effective, as Spurs ran and pressed to force Atletico into rash decisions.BITE IN ATTACKTudor’s side had 18 shots, 11 on target, and could have scored more than three. Randal Kolo Muani got a fine header, created by Mathys Tel, who was tireless in making things happen, while Xavi Simons scored twice including a curler from range. “I think Xavi was very good, happy for him, showed the talent… it was not easy to play there in the middle, where it’s always difficult,” explained Tudor. It was certainly encouraging for Spurs in an attacking sense too given that Dominic Solanke and Richarlison, so key at Anfield, were unavailable for Atletico.WHAT ISSUES ARE FOREST HAVING?Nottingham Forest are a team packed with talent; one expected to line up 4-2-3-1 with Elliot Anderson and Ibrahim Sangaré in midfield.Morgan Gibbs-White will likely play in one of three attacking midfield positions, centre-backs Murillo and Nikola Milenković should start, flanked by full-backs Neco Williams and Ola Aina with the explosive Callum Hudson-Odoi out wide. On the road lately they’ve picked up good results, like the 2-2 comeback draw against Manchester City and 3-0 victory at Fenerbahçe, and their two league wins in 2026 have come away at West Ham and Brentford. But at home, it’s no win in seven league matches – having failed to score in four of the last five at the City Ground too, after last week’s 0-0 with Fulham.GOALSCORING WOESThe lack of goals has been a real issue home and away for Forest, drawing blanks in 14 of their 30 league games this season.Only Wolves have scored fewer than Forest - a situation exacerbated by Chris Wood’s absence through injury, while fellow striker Igor Jesus has just two league goals. However, given the impact subs had against Fulham, Forest could reshape their attack.Dan Ndoye came on at half-time and two marginal offside decisions denied him a penalty and a goal. Omari Hutchinson was thrown on at the break too, while striker Taiwo Awoniyi will push to start.“We needed to refresh the team to put more energy in,” explained Vitor Periera afterwards. “They are players who are strong one-on-one. Dan Ndoye is fast in the space and Taiwo was fantastic. This is the spirit I want to see in my players”.THE DALY BRIEFSECURE YOUR SEATSSIGN UP HERECOME ON YOU SPURS!TH23_10-11_Daly_Column.indd 11 19/03/2026 12:01

THFC1 2ACT I O N RE PLAYA battling performance full of spirit and passion earned us a 3-2 victory over Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night, but that wasn’t enough to overturn our first leg deficit as we exited the Champions League round of 16.Trailing 5-2 from last week’s game in Madrid we couldn’t close the gap at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, even though we fought every inch of the way to secure Igor Tudor’s first win as our Head Coach – extending our unbeaten home European run to 25 matches. Randal Kolo Muani got the ball rolling with the opening goal and we led at half-time, only for Julian Alvarez to restore parity immediately after the break. Xavi Simons swiftly replied and added a second from the spot in the 90th minute but, in between his brace, David Hancko netted Atletico’s second equaliser.KOLO MUANI 30, XAVI 52, 90 (PEN)TOTTENHAM HOTSPURVicario, Dragusin (Udogie 66), Romero (c) (Danso 81), van de Ven, Spence, Pedro Porro (Bergvall 74), Gray (Gallagher 81), Sarr, Xavi, Tel (Olusesi 81), Kolo Muani. 1 6MATHYS TELTHFCTH23_16-21_Main_Interview_Tel.indd 16 19/03/2026 12:05

1 7MATHYS TELTHFCMENTALITY MATHYSand fight in some gutsy displays in recent weeks. During a league run-in where resilience, character and the will to compete are paramount, this afternoon’s crunch fixture against Nottingham Forest is a real test of mentality above all else and, in the young Frenchman, we have a player ready to give his all in these moments. An exclusive interview with Mathys Tel who calls for fight, belief and togetherness ahead of a season-defining Premier League fixture at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium…Words by Will Holdernessathys Tel is a fighter.Things have not come easy this season for a 20-year-old whose perspective has been shaped by confronting setbacks face on and the grounding influence of his family. With 12 starts in his 30 appearances across the board in 2025/26, four of those in the last four games under Igor Tudor, the forward has remained patient and committed despite being shuffled in and out of the starting side earlier this term and is impressing. He also had to rise above the abhorrent online racist abuse in the aftermath of our penalty shootout defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup back in August and overcome the personal disappointment of being omitted from our Champions League squad for all bar one match in the league phase. After two substitute appearances in the opening two matches under our new Head Coach, his instant impact off the bench in the 2-1 defeat at Fulham – playing a key part in Richarlison’s goal – has earned him a run in the starting side and he has shown bags of heart M “I think my mindset comes from the situations that I’ve faced before, my experience and the principles and values that my family gave to me,” he said.“So, it’s like whatever’s coming to you, even if it’s bad or good, take it. Always stay positive and just fight and just always look forward. “That’s what I’m trying to do. TH23_16-21_Main_Interview_Tel.indd 17 19/03/2026 12:05

1 8MATHYS TELTHFCTH23_16-21_Main_Interview_Tel.indd 18 19/03/2026 12:05

1 9MATHYS TELTHFCEven if the situation sometimes is not the best for me, I will keep fighting because this is my job.“They (my family) know who I am. So, when I had the things after PSG or when I wasn’t in the squad in the Champions League, they know who I am, so they weren’t like, ‘Mathys is going to be down’. They were like, ‘you know what you have to do’. So I stay focused. Keep going. Trust the process.“We (my family and I) always call. We always stick together and this is what you need because when you’re in this type of situation, when you stay alone, it’s maybe not so good. You have to feel like people are pushing you from behind. So, yeah, it’s a good thing.”Whether at home or at Hotspur Way, that togetherness and spirit to keep lifting each other up during the tough moments rings true.Every point matters. And the one secured in our battling 1-1 draw at Liverpool last time out in the league showed there is resilience, character and fight in the side.On a five-game losing streak in the top flight and with 13 senior players unavailable for the trip to Anfield, Mathys started the contest and, alongside his team-mates, took the game to the defending champions as Richy’s late equaliser secured a thoroughly deserved point on the road.“It’s not three points but it’s a point anyway,” reflects our number 11. “Like I said to the guys, every point really counts now. We got this point and that was a very good point because we showed good mentality. We gave everything to have a good result. So, yeah, it was good. I mean, this is a hard situation as we’ve got players who can’t play so it’s a challenge. For me, how can we take this challenge on to show to the fans, to the opponent, that we can make something happen. “Let’s give everything for them because they wanted to play, they can’t, so let’s give everything for them, for the club, for the fans and staff.”After making his initial loan move from FC Bayern Munich permanent in the summer, the attacker brought up his half century in our colours with a start in our 3-2 win over Atletico Madrid in the Champions League Round of 16 second leg in midweek.A lot of encouragement can be taken from our spirited success over the Spanish side on the night, even if it ended with us exiting the competition. Mathys helped spark the fightback with a great cross for Randal Kolo Muani’s first-half opener and Xavi Simons scored twice in response to Atleti’s equalisers in a morale-boosting win on the night, extending our unbeaten home record in Europe to 25 matches in the process.Wednesday night’s performance was a positive step in the right direction that showcased a shared commitment and willingness to fight from the first whistle to the last. Our fans certainly played their part and brought the energy throughout, showing their appreciation with a standing ovation at the final whistle. Mathys, who was substituted on 81 minutes to a warm reception of “I THINK MY MINDSET COMES FROM THE SITUATIONS THAT I’VE FACED BEFORE”TH23_16-21_Main_Interview_Tel.indd 19 19/03/2026 12:05

2 0MATHYS TELTHFCthe importance of this significant home fixture in the context of our season. Sitting one point and position ahead of 17th-placed Forest, Mathys describes the contest as a ‘final’ because, as part of the squad who lifted the Europa League trophy in Bilbao last season, he knows finals demand intensity, courage and a total commitment from himself, his team-mates and everyone connected to the Club.“For me, it’s a final,” he declares. “It’s a final because we almost have the same points and these three his own from the Spurs faithful as he made his way back to the dugout, understands the shared responsibility and is always determined to lead by example through his actions on the pitch.“I feel like every player has his thing to do,” he explains. “And my thing is to create danger. So I always try to run and help my team-mates. “Even if I lose the ball, I will run again. If I lose, I will run again. Because, you know, a game is the first minute to the 90 minutes. So, you have to play, you have to give everything until the last minute. This is what I’m trying to do.“I try to show leadership and do more on the pitch because I think even more now we need players who talk and show the way because it’s not a simple situation. I’m trying to show my teammates that nothing is finished. “We can change the situation and everybody knows the situation can be like this, but Sunday can be something else.”It is a message that sharpens the focus on unity - a theme that runs through everything the attacker says – and all of which builds up to points can change everything. “So, for us, we have to stay together. We have to go into this game making sure that everybody gives everything and we really need the fans. “We need them to be loud, to be behind us the first minute until the last minute. “We saw that they were behind us. This type of energy just gives us more energy and the fans will push us until the end. “As a team, we have to stay together, but as a club, we have to stay together too.”“I TRY TO SHOW LEADERSHIP AND DO MORE ON THE PITCH BECAUSE I THINK EVEN MORE NOW WE NEED PLAYERS WHO TALK AND SHOW THE WAY”TH23_16-21_Main_Interview_Tel.indd 20 19/03/2026 12:05

Members of Tottenham Hotspaw – our first-ever Official Supporters’ Club for dog lovers – have been posting pictures of their beloved pets on the group’s Facebook page for a chance for them to be featured on the stadium big screens ahead of kick-off and in the matchday programme.A Tottenham Hotspaw membership is free and gives fans access to One Hotspur Moments – a programme of special experiences for supporters and their dogs. This includes the opportunity to take part in fundraising activities and events in support of All Dogs Matter – a charity that works in and around London to transform the lives of unwanted and abandoned dogs.Alongside our ‘Dog of the Match’, we also profile rescue dogs currently up for adoption with All Dogs Matter – the fantastic charity partner of Tottenham Hotspaw - giving fans the chance to provide a forever home so badly needed. Today, we are featuring Bruce – who has become a firm favourite at the All Dogs Matter kennels. He is a friendly boy who loves his walks, meeting new people and showing off his doggy yoga! He has a history of resource guarding and so will need an experienced owner. He would like to live in a house in a semi-rural area and would prefer to be the only dog in his home. For more on All Dogs Matter, and to find out how you could provide a forever home to a rescue dog today, visit: alldogsmatter.co.uk DOGS OF THE MATCH!BRUCENICO & DEXTERToday’s ‘Dogs of the Match’ are Nico and Dexter. Nico is a four-year-old Jackapoo who was rescued from All Dogs Matter (see info below), whilst Dexter is an English Sheepdog who loves his cuddles! 3 1IN THE COMMUNITYTHFCimpact for her dexterity, building muscle tone – low muscle tone is very common in many people with Down syndrome – and fitness. They also create opportunities to build links and relationships within the Down syndrome community. That Spurs are providing a really local option makes it far easier to access all these benefits for Lily.”Lewis Eldridge, dad to Zaara, said: “Like other kids with Down syndrome, Zaara has a learning disability, whilst her physical development is also slower than a typical child. I’m very proud when I see her kicking a ball so well and interacting with others very naturally. It’s also really important that people with disabilities are visible in the community, so football sessions like this also help in that way.”Lana’s mum, Deebah Liaquat, Following World Down Syndrome Day yesterday (21 March), we are delighted to celebrate Tottenham Hotspur Foundation’s football group for children with Down syndrome.Three young girls, Lana and Zaara, both 10, and Lily, six, were mascots for our Spurs Women’s game with Everton here last weekend, having been surprised with news of the honour during a visit to our Training Centre. We have been proud to hear from their parents that Foundation sessions are having a “huge positive impact”.They described how the monthly group at Tottenham Community Sports Centre, opposite the Stadium, brings the girls physical and social benefits.Alastair Hann, dad to Lily, said: “The sessions have a huge positive CELEBRATING DOWN SYNDROME FOOTBALL GROUPsaid: “We were super excited when we heard about these sessions as there are so little opportunities for children with Down syndrome to take part in inclusive after-school and weekend activities. Getting Lana to be more active is really difficult and to see her excited about playing football is amazing. It gives us peace of mind to bring her to sessions we know she will enjoy and that will be safe for her with peers with similar ability.”It is estimated that around one in every 1,000 babies born in the UK has Down syndrome. The Foundation’s sessions are part of its wider development of football opportunities for local people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), with almost 28% of households in Haringey having at least one person with a long-term disability and 15.4% of the population in Enfield living with a disability.Anyone interested in finding out more should contact Foundation programme coordinator John Abel – [email protected] by:TH23_30-31_Foundation.indd 31 19/03/2026 12:08

3 4WALL TO WALLMeetings with Nottingham Forest are a glaring omission from our programme walls, so we’ll peruse two 1980s fixtures from the month of March in today’s feature.Simply entitled Spurs, the front cover of Number 24 of Volume 76 displayed the indomitable Graham Roberts in the recent N17 victory over Stoke City. Priced at 50 pence, the ‘s’ at the end of Spurs continued for the full width of the publication to display the words: Sponsored by Holsten. Having just signed a deal with the famous German Pilsner company in December 1983, that spanned well over a decade, their impressive knight logo fitted perfectly with our Percy family heritage.West Bromwich Albion were the visitors on 17 March 1984 for a disappointing defeat where Cyrille Regis netted the only goal – perhaps, we had one eye on our imminent UEFA Cup quarter-final tie versus FK Austria Memphis. Clothing company, Lois, took out a full page advertisement – hands up if you owned a trendy pair of their jeans, complemented by the Nike trainers later made fashionable by Michael J. Fox in the 1985 film Back To The Future.A glance at the ‘Welcome WBA’ page showed the imposing Martin Jol amongst their ranks, who despite our favourite manager chant, sported a full head of hair and beard. Physiotherapist, Mike Varney, talked to Rob Shepherd about adductor strains in the fascinating ‘Treatment Room.’ The page also featured Gary Mabbutt, who’d been suffering from an injury to the group of muscles which run along the inside of both thighs and are often confused with a groin strain.Former Albion stalwart, John Wile, recalled the disappointment he felt when we triumphed in the 1982 League Cup semi-final in ‘Yesterday Man.’ He explained: “Both games were very tough and losing a semi-final is a dreadful experience.” Ray Bradley of The Sunday Express penned a great article lamenting the lack of skill in the era, citing too many teams were following Charles Hughes’ FA coaching manual of percentage football. In the same style as Shoot! magazine, Ian Crook was pictured alongside a fun questionnaire. Continuing our new feature for this season, as John Chambers highlights the contents of programmes whose front covers feature on our famous ‘Programme Walls’ within the stadium…Wallto WallTH23_34-35_Wall_to_Wall.indd 34 18/03/2026 14:27

3 5WALL TO WALLCrook, who enjoyed a distinguished Norwich City career, was extremely unlucky to be at the Club simultaneously as Glenn Hoddle, Micky Hazard and Osvaldo Ardiles; in any other era the talented midfielder would have been a regular Lilywhite.Ditching the captivating non-Spurs articles written by Fleet Street journalists, the following season’s programme shrunk from 36 down to 28 pages. Still printed and designed by Maybank Press of Hainault, Number 20 of Volume 77 pictured our jubilant players celebrating Mark Falco’s Highbury winner on New Year’s Day. Remarkably, our Manchester United fixture on 12 March 1985 was our first home league outing since Christmas! Embroiled in a title challenge with Everton, we were just two points off the top after 27 matches. Disappointingly, United dealt us a considerable blow, when Falco’s late consolation couldn’t overturn strikes from Mark Hughes and Norman Whiteside – the result was tempered by Garth Crooks scoring our first winner at Anfield in 73 years just four days later. Falco was now our established centre-forward and Crooks had been doing a sterling job replacing the injured Clive Allen, who featured in ‘Clive Knows That He Must Rejoin The Queue.’ Having enjoyed an electric start to his N17 career, Allen fell victim to a hernia problem that eventually required an operation. Sadly, the injury kept him sidelined until the middle of the next season, and he lamented: “I was sick to be forced out. I have never missed so many games in a season, so naturally, I want to get this one behind me and say goodbye to the treatment table.”John Fennelly interviewed up-and-coming reserve John Polston fresh from an England trial at Lilleshall. An admirer of Roberts and Liverpool’s Mark Lawrenson, Polston claimed: “I’d love to possess Graham’s physical toughness plus his ability on the ball as he pushes forward. Mark is also good going forward and that’s something I like to see in a defender.” John made 27 senior appearances with one coming alongside his brother, Andy - becoming the first siblings to feature for Tottenham since Bobby and Danny Steel in 1912.Chris Hughton featured in ‘Among My Souvenirs,’ a fantastic delve into mementos collected from the players’ careers. He was particularly pleased with Kevin Keegan’s England shirt that he managed to swap during his Ireland adventures. Interestingly, he only possessed one Irish cap per season with all the opponents sewn in, dispelling the myth of a cabinet full of individual caps. He also displayed Ruud Gullit’s swapped Feyenoord shirt and claimed the Dutchman would become a star. It also mentioned he was a qualified lift engineer; has there ever been a piece written about Chris where this isn’t mentioned? Oh no, I’ve done it again!Sporting the most marvellous 1980s mullet of all time, Allan Cockram was the centre page spread. A welcome Hotspur Way visitor recently, Cockram took a training session alongside his captain, Charlie, from the Brentford Penguins; a Down’s Syndrome side that Allan started up. Travel Club advertised a £150 Real Madrid UEFA Cup trip including flights, accommodation and a match ticket.TH23_34-35_Wall_to_Wall.indd 35 18/03/2026 14:27

3 9THFCMEMORY LANETHE CHEEKY CHAPPIEEddie Baily, who helped Forest win promotion to the old First Division in 1957, is deservedly a massive figure in Spurs history as both player and coach.Yet, despite playing for our Junior side and signing amateur forms on leaving school, we almost lost him. With World War Two raging, Baily was called up into the Royal Scots Fusiliers, but we were then told by the army that he was ‘missing in action’ and his registration was allowed to lapse.Unaware of this, Baily presumed we weren’t interested as he had heard nothing from Spurs. So, on his return home he was persuaded to join Chelsea’s ranks. It was only when he popped into White Hart Lane to see some old mates that the army’s error was realised. When this was all explained to Chelsea, they magnanimously agreed to cancel his registration. An inside-forward of great skill and vision, the chirpy Londoner was nicknamed ‘The Cheeky Chappie’ and would go on to play for England. Then, as Bill Nicholson’s assistant, he played a key role in the creation and emergence of our ‘Double’ side of 1961. CLOUGHIE MEMORIESThere was a lot of mutual admiration between Bill Nicholson and former Forest boss Brian Clough. But that wasn’t always the case!As England Under-23 manager, Bill dropped leading goalscorer Clough, describing him as a “lazy trainer.”“If he shows the same attitude on the pitch, he will be letting the side down,” said Bill at the time. “I don’t care what he has achieved with Middlesbrough. I want him to be hungry for that England shirt.“This will teach him a lesson and one day he will thank me for it.”He never did! But as writer Norman Giller reported in his incisive book ‘Sir Bill,’ co-written with our own Steve Perryman, it was Dave Mackay who inspired Cloughie to finally acknowledge that there was some merit in the move!Veteran Dave was on his way back to Hearts when Clough intervened and took him to Derby. Bill recalls that Brian locked Mackay in his Tottenham office and swore that he would not let him out until he signed!Later, the two managers reflected on that England incident.Said Bill: “He told me privately, ‘You were so right. And as a manager, I’ve insisted my players train as hard as they play. It’s the only way.’“In Dave Mackay, he had signed the most dedicated player I ever encountered, whether training or playing.”Ironically, Dave would manage Forest before Brian, while another Nicholson prodigy and Mackay teammate, Joe Kinnear, also did so in 2004.Former press officer John Fennelly returns with his eclectic memories of today’s opponents collected over 50 years of following Spurs. On a personal level, I have always found working with former Forest players to be highly professional but also a lot of fun. It must be something in the Trent!Steve Hodge, via Villa, started it all in my time with Spurs and the smiles continued with the arrival of the likes of Chris Fairclough, Johnny Metgod, and eventually Hans Segers and Teddy Sheringham. But when two turned up at once in January, 2005, it was their personalities as much as their undoubted abilities that made them settle quickly into Martin Jol’s squad.Yorkshireman Michael Dawson and Dubliner Andy Reid were totally different players with the former a defensive combatant of deserved repute and Reid so versatile and creative that Forest fans must have been sad to see both head south. As graduates from the Forest youth ranks, both had clearly mastered their respective trades under expert guidance. Andy returned to the City Ground in 2011 and it’s no surprise to me that both are now media pundits. I well recall that they always had a lot t o s a y anyway!FOREST FRIENDSTHAT REMINDS ME…TH23_38-39_That_Reminds_Me.indd 39 18/03/2026 14:29

4 6HEROES & VILLAINSTHFCJohn Chambers looks back at previous meetings with Nottingham Forest and picks out Spurs players who have produced heroics and those opponents who have been a thorn in our side!Depicted in English folklore, Robin Hood conjures thoughts of cinematic heroes and villains. The mythical idol’s quarterstaff battles with Little John are reminiscent of the Shinney duels contested on Nottingham’s cobblestones in the 1860s. Shinney was a less organised form of what morphed into hockey, and led by JS Scrimshaw, local aficionados discarded their sticks in favour of the beautiful game. A proposition to switch to Association Football was passed at the Clinton Arms public house in 1865 with neighbours Notts County their first foes. At the same meeting, it was agreed to purchase a dozen tasselled caps in ‘Garibaldi Red’ – named after the leader of the Italian ‘Redshirts’ freedom fighters; the Club had now established their colours. During our inaugural Southern League season in 1896/97 we embarked on four prestigious Northumberland Park friendlies versus Football League opposition. After holding our own against Aston Villa, Blackburn Rovers and Everton, Nottingham Forest were held to a 1-1 draw in our first-ever meeting. Known as ‘The Baron,’ half-back Harry Crump scored our first goal versus Forest. Following our 1908 Football League election and instant Division Two promotion, our first League meeting with Forest arose at White Hart Lane on Christmas Day 1909. Percy Humphreys was our hero, plundering a brace in an entertaining 2-2 draw. The former England striker gave us a 20th minute lead with a fast low drive before ploughing through the mud to extend the advantage after the interval. Bill Palmer reduced the arrears on the hour before a mix up between ‘Tiny’ Joyce and Bert Elkin allowed Enoch ‘Knocker’ West to villainously steal a point. Our biggest N17 Forest victory transpired in September 1962. Despite taking the lead in the fourth minute through Trevor Hockey, Forest crumbled to a 9-2 mauling. Inevitably, Jimmy Greaves turned it around within six minutes with two headers before a Cliff Jones volley made it three on 15 minutes. Incredibly, we’d netted six by half time with further strikes from John White, Terry Medwin and Greaves’ hat-trick goal. Les Allen then struck from the spot before Jones and Greaves further embarrassed Forest, who netted a late consolation through Geoff Vowden. Another memorable result came in October 1971. Bottom of the table Forest held out for 20 minutes until Martin Peters swept home Alan Gilzean’s measured knock down. Martin Chivers’ spectacular diving header and a Peters penalty increased the score within four minutes. Alan Mullery’s snaking run and low shot allied with Jimmy Pearce’s two back post half volleys mirrored the first half before Paul Richardson headed home for Forest, who ended up relegated. Two of the biggest heroes of this football club arrived in a blaze of publicity after winning the 1978 World Cup. Fresh from the ticker-taped streets of Buenos Aires, Osvaldo Ardiles and Ricardo Villa propelled us back into the big time following our Division Two promotion. 47HEROES & VILLAINSTHFCThe first 1978/79 fixture couldn’t have been harder when we made the trip to the City Ground to take on the champions of England. Honing his skills by dribbling around trees at his childhood ranch in Argentina, Villa showed a glimpse of his future FA Cup final-winning goal by skipping round Peter Shilton to cancel out Martin O’Neill’s early opener. Both Argentines left an indelible print on the Club that still resonates with fans today. Another hero of the same era was the majestic Glenn Hoddle. Having already shocked Shilton with a long-range howitzer on his first Tottenham start at Stoke City, Hoddle went one better with one of White Hart Lane’s greatest goals. The solitary strike in October 1979 was worthy of winning any match. Milija Aleksic’s big boot up field was twice headed on by Chris Jones and Gerry Armstrong before dropping into the penalty box for Hoddle to acrobatically volley past England’s celebrated custodian in the third minute. Hoddle also pulled the strings in the fifth of six consecutive home league wins over the Tricky Trees. The first live league match on free-to-air television since 1960 was screened on ITV in October 1983. Forest’s Colin Walsh opened the scoring in N17 before Gary Stevens converted Garry Brooke’s excellent cross with a searing diving header in the second half. Steve Archibald stole the points when he slid home Mark Falco’s header that directed VILLAINSback across goal. Following our 1991 FA Cup final victory over Forest, where Paul Stewart attained our eternal hero worship, our results for rest of the decade left a lot to be desired. Winning only 4 of 17 matches, Dutch striker Bryan Roy became a constant headache, scoring five goals against us during his three-year City Ground spell. Forest gained FA Cup revenge during this period when the February 1996 snow was the villain. A sudden flurry pre kick off left our players virtually indistinguishable, with their white kit resembling snowmen. The match was quickly abandoned and the re-arrangement saw Ian Woan twice cancel out Chris Armstrong’s brace. The N17 replay witnessed Teddy Sheringham equalise Roy’s early opener before we lost a disastrous penalty shoot-out where only Ruel Fox netted. Our last two victories over Forest came in Ange Postecoglou’s first season. Suffering from a facial injury, the masked Dejan Kulusevski delivered a wicked cross that glanced off Richarlison’s head on half time. Kulusevski secured the points in the 65th minute with an expert step over and fierce drive in December 2023. The April return saw Murillo turn Timo Werner’s cross into his own net on 15 minutes before Chris Wood equalised soon after. Micky van de Ven’s first home goal restored the lead after half time when his rocket shot from the edge of the box nearly broke the net. Pedro Porro rifled home the third just five minutes later to seal the points.RICKY VILLA CELEBRATES HIS DEBUT GOAL WITH OSSIE ARDILESDEJAN KULUSEVSKITH23_46-47_Heroes_&_Villians.indd 47 18/03/2026 14:33

4 9O N C E A S P U R , ALWAYS A S P U RTHFCIn each matchday programme, we speak to a former Spurs player to look back at their career and get their thoughts on current events in N17. The series continues this afternoon as we catch up with Andy Reid.ndy Reid’s connection with today’s opponents Nottingham Forest began back in 1998 when he joined the club’s academy, aged 15. The Dublin-born winger went on to score 42 goals in 290 appearances in two spells with Forest from 2000 to 2005 and between 2011 and 2016. And he returned to the City Ground again in January 2020 as Forest’s Under-23s head coach and currently serves as their transition coach. While Forest hold the biggest place in Reid’s football heart, he also has huge affection for the other clubs he represented during his playing career – Charlton Athletic, Sunderland, Sheffield United (loan) and Blackpool as well as Tottenham Hotspur, for whom the winger scored once in 27 appearances between 2005 and 2006. A hugely popular member of our squad during his one-and-a-half years in N17, ‘Reidy’ – who won 29 caps for the Republic of Ireland – will forever be grateful to Spurs for giving him his Premier League breakthrough and a host of memorable experiences…Hi Andy. First of all, can you tell us how you came to join Nottingham Forest as a youngster?I was playing for a team called Cherry Orchard in Ireland when I got the opportunity to have a trial at Nottingham Forest. From the minute I arrived at Forest, it felt like the place I wanted to go. At the time, you were able to move to English clubs at a younger age, so I came over to Forest as a 15-year-old. It was an incredible experience for me joining Forest’s youth set-up and then going on to play professionally for them. It was everything I had dreamed of.Andy ReidOnce a Spur Always a SpurAScience in Sport is the trusted performance solutions partner of Tottenham Hotspur, providing hydration, energy and recoveryproducts, formulated from science to help you fuel the full 90 minutes and beyond. scienceinsport.comTH23_48-51_Ex_Player_Interview.indd 49 18/03/2026 14:34

5 0O N C E A S P U R , ALWAYS A S P U RTHFCAnd you went on to score 25 goals in 160 matches in your first spell with Nottingham Forest… For any professional, the moment you make your senior debut is very, very special and I obviously got to do that with Forest. It was particularly special having had that journey through the academy ranks into the first team and then going on to play the number of games I did. Paul Hart was the youth team manager at Forest and later the first team manager. He was a huge influence on me. He pushed me all the way. What attracted you to make the move from Forest to Spurs in January, 2005? I knew the history of Tottenham Hotspur and the big draws were obviously joining a club as big as Spurs and also playing Premier League football. The transfer took quite a while to go through, so I was delighted when it finally happened. There were a few Irish lads at Spurs… Robbie Keane, Mark Yeates and Stephen Kelly, which helped me settle. And obviously I moved to Spurs from Forest with Michael Dawson. Daws and I came through the academy together at Forest, albeit in different age groups, and I knew him well. To make that move together was great. And Daws didn’t go on to have a bad career at Spurs, eh!What memories do you have of your Spurs debut – a 3-1 win over Portsmouth on 5 February, 2005?The big memory was making an assist for Robbie Keane to score. I had a brilliant relationship on and off the pitch with Robbie – we obviously played together for Ireland. I was aware of Robbie’s movement, the way he looked to come short and then spin in behind. That’s exactly what he did with that goal against Portsmouth. I picked the ball up around the halfway line, I saw Robbie spinning in behind and picked him out. He went on and lobbed the ‘keeper. As I mentioned about Forest, and the same is true of Spurs or any other club, making your debut for a team is a special moment. It was great playing at White Hart Lane for the first time as a Spurs player. The new stadium is magnificent, but the old White Hart Lane had such a brilliant feel to it. It was a great place to play. You felt the history there and you were aware of the great players that had played on that pitch over the years. It was also my Premier League debut as well, so it was a very special day all round. Your one and only goal in a Spurs shirt came in our 5-1 win over Aston Villa in May, 2005, which capped a fine team and individual performance that day…It was probably the biggest highlight of my Spurs career. It was a Sunday afternoon match and it felt like one of those days where everything clicked from a team perspective and individually too. I wanted to get on the ball and make things happen. The team put in a brilliant performance and the game started to really open up in the latter stages of the second half. I can recall picking the ball up around the halfway line, driving forward and the opportunity presented itself to shoot. I was never afraid to hit a shot from distance and I decided to take it on. From the moment I struck it, I knew it stood a good chance of going in. There’s something about those shots that go in off the crossbar that is particularly pleasing. So I was very happy with that one! What was Martin Jol like as a manager for you?Martin was a good coach and someone who managed the group well. I do look at Martin’s period as manager as being a time when Spurs’ fortunes were elevated. They started getting into Europe again, signing big players. I also knew Chris Hughton well, who was Martin’s assistant, from the Ireland set-up. Chris is a wonderful guy and we’d have good conversations. He also offered that bit of familiarity to me joining Spurs. Spurs were in the Premier League’s top four for the majority of the 2005/06 season prior to a literally sickening day at West Ham TH23_48-51_Ex_Player_Interview.indd 50 18/03/2026 14:34
