YEARBOOK 23

YEARBOOK 23

Mr. Lotfy El Badrawy Board Chair Our Academic Team has successfully implemented the High Performance Learning program (HPL) in the school and we are ready for the final audit and accreditation. We are also preparing the school for the Council of International Schools (CIS) and British Schools Overseas (BSO) audit by the beginning of the next academic year. These accreditations will ensure that NCBIS is working to the international standards as a first class international school that is recognized by the most prestigious accreditors in the UK. We are happy to see our students enjoying and benefiting from the newly introduced A Level program with an increased number of students choosing this qualification. The academic leadership team are working hard to offer very well designed subject selections to satisfy the needs of our brilliant students. Meanwhile, our IB program is still one of the best in the region and we will continue to offer both programs to meet the expectations of our students and prepare them to be successful global citizens. The school renovation plan is still ongoing and we completed the Early Years building renovation at the beginning of the academic year and the students are now enjoying the new facility. Furthermore, the Primary building and its classes have seen considerable facelifting along with the administration building. The Board would like to thank our Principal and Academic Team for their efforts to improve the education processes in the school and maintain the standards and ethos of NCBIS. We also thank our Executive Business Director and her administrative team who work behind the scenes to guarantee the smooth operation of the school and its facilities. Finally, I would like to wish our NCBIS community happy holidays and safe travels and look forward to welcoming you back in the next academic year. Lotfy Elbadrawy Chairman of the Board of Governors On behalf of the Board of Governors at NCBIS, I would like to share a message with our community. This year was a very special year as the school operated for one full year without external interruptions. Fortunately, science and the love of life overcame COVID-19 and we experienced the blessing of returning back to normal. At the beginning of this academic year, the school and the society managed to comply with the new law organizing the operations of Non Governmental Organizations (NGO) in Egypt and our OGM elected the current board for the next four years. Meesage From the Board chair Mrs. Pakinam Kafafi Board Member Mr. Aziz Mansour Board Member Mr. Mohamed Selim Zaki Treasurer Mr. Walid Elhusseiny Board Member Mrs. Yasmine Khamis Vice Chair Mr. Hossam Leheta Board Member Mr. Omar El Hassanein Board Secretary Mr. Rufino Ortega Lozano Board Member The Board Of Governors 01

MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL Principal, NCBIS MRS MASTERSON On my first day as Principal at NCBIS I spotted a reluctant student tugging his mum’s arm willing her to take him home. It was clear that he was not sure about his new school. I asked him his name and then why he was upset, he mentioned it was his first day and he was nervous about not making any friends, to which I replied that it was my first day and was equally nervous about the same thing. We made a pact that we would face the challenge together and we did. NCBIS is a warm and welcoming community that makes everyone’s first to last day special and this community is one of its’ core strengths. with best regards, Trudie Masterson This year the community has come together to organise amazing events and activities, all of which you will see represented in this Year Book. We thank each and every organiser and participant for your contributions. Last Summer we saw exceptional examination results in both IGCSE and IB and we are equally sure of exceeding these results this year. We are immensely proud of all of our students and applaud the hard work and dedication they demonstrate on a daily basis. We have our first set of A Level students successfully making up half of our sixth form and we are humbled and honoured in the trust they have placed in us to support their success in the future. Remember Never Cease Being Incredible Students! The achievements that the school has seen this year are mostly recognised in these pages but in addition to these we have successfully become a World Class High Performance Learning School. This is an important recognition of our journey so far and we hope to continue to see the impact and benefit from this world renowned programme. None of the successes shared here could have possibly occurred without the immense effort from everyone associated with NCBIS. I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to making and supporting an amazing experience for all. I would like to thank the Board for their untiring effort and guidance. They give so generously of their time and this often goes without recognition or thanks. We hope you enjoy this small representation of our school and all who give so much. We are all proud to represent NCBIS and we continue to fulfil our promise of “Bringing Out the Best in Everyone” PARENTS TEACHERS GROUP NCBIS prides itself on not only providing a high quality and truly international education but also on being a close knit multicultural community thus enabling families from all over the world to feel the warmth and kindness of our host country. Central to our mission as a Parent Group is the commitment to facilitate the integration of all families into the community and involving as many parents as possible in the many events and activities. We hope that by encouraging such inclusion that we can grow stronger as a community where all fflourish through a compelling sense of belonging. The Parent Group this year has consisted of 5 mums who volunteered their time and effort to develop further the NCBIS spirit. The committee has children in different year groups and we have grown together as a team. We would like to thank the community for being so supportive and willing to help out - you are an amazing group of volunteers! We hope that everyone has enjoyed the events and activities and that the team were as helpful and creative as they could be. It is always a pleasure to look at the pictures in our yearbook. It is a showcase of our school community. The Dutch Stream is a happy place. We do our best to adhere to our school’s motto ‘bringing out the best in everyone!’. We find it important to create an environment where students, staff and parents feel well and enjoy working together for the interest of our students. Being a pathway school for HPL (High Performance Learning) really fits this ambition, as it is based on the concept of a growth mindset. We hope you enjoy this yearbook as much as we do. 2022-2023 was a wonderful school year. OLGA KES Head of Dutch Stream ACADEMIC T EAM The Dutch team from left to right: Sally Naoum, teacher of English, Olga Kes, teacher group 6-8 and Head of Dutch, Dina Attia, practical assistant, Annemee Siersma, teacher group 3-4-5, Amanda Kamphuis, teacher group 1-2 22

GROEP PEUTERS Daniel Abadir Jasper Jagers Selim Noureldin Zaky Aly What an amazing year we’ve had! The students in group 1 and 2 have had many adventures. We have learned about the zoo and built our own in the classroom. There were enclosures for the tigers, lions, snakes and elephants. We learned about professions and the students shared what they wanted to be. Pilots, doctors, vets!!? Whatever it is, they will be amazing! After Christmas, we had a world trip as Lou, the class dog, visited countries and sent us postcards from every amazing place. It was so exciting to learn about gorillas, pyramids and hot springs. In spring we sowed seeds which grew into beautiful flowers. The year ended with learning all about fairytales. A wonderful year full of adventures leading into many more years of learning fun. What a joy it is as their teacher to see my students so happy in their learning. I am so proud and wish them lots of fun in group 2 and 3. Don Huver Sara Nijssen Amanda Kamphuis 1-2 23

Mason Mulder Moiz Fathy Maliekah Mohamed Gaber Maya Mulder Group 3/4/5 proved to be a close-knit, sociable -“gezellige”- group this year. The students enjoyed discussing and talking about what they were experiencing or learning. They had a collaborative and creative approach to their inquiries and assignments. They practised deliberately to get better and master skills. Their enthusiasm was almost overwhelming. With statements such as “Yes, we are going to work and learn, can we start?” or “Are we going to do maths? I love maths!”, they showed their commitment and eagerness to learn. They listened to each other to understand viewpoints and ideas and learn to see alternative perspectives. They observed well during art lessons. They showed patience when reading together and applauded each other when a classmate mastered an exercise or answered questions in detail correctly. These students are prepared for the transition to a new school year. Well done group 3/4/5! Halima Fathy Grace Abadir 3-4-5 Jeanne Fongers Noah Noureldin Zaky Aly GROEP, Annemee Siersma 25

GROEP, Arel Nijssen Tom van Heeswijk Daniel Kamphuisen We have had a great year in group 6-8. These students are very clever at working with both Primary and Secondary timetables. They independently keep an eye on the clock and remind Juf Olga when it is time to leave for another lesson. We had so much fun with Sinterklaas, reading our poems out loud and unpacking the surprise presents. We enjoy playing board games, and are masters in playing chess or set. Art is one of our favourite subjects and we enjoyed making drawings for Inktober. But we also enjoy learning and working hard. We have really improved our skills this year and we are ready to move on to the next level. This means that group 8 will leave the Dutch Stream, so we wish them all the best! This yearbook is a reflection of the excellent achievements of our students and the dedication of our teachers to provide the best possible learning experiences. This year we have enjoyed high profile events such as International Day and Primary Sports Days; but also countless everyday special moments that are captured in this yearbook. Key areas of focus this year have been embedding the pedagogy of High Performance Learning and raising expectations in English and mathematics. Whilst we are far from the end of our journey, the photos in this year book show primary students being risk-takers, solving problems and developing concern for society; as well as all the other Values, Attitudes and Attributes (VAAs) and Advanced Cognitive Performance characteristics (ACPs) that are helping us challenge children and extend their potential. Parent partnership is essential in securing success for our students and this year we have been working hard to develop opportunities for greater parental engagement; from celebrations of learning, parent workshops, our 1-to-1 parent volunteer reading initiative to events such as World Book Week, it has been wonderful to welcome in parents throughout the school to support the children’s learning process and enhance their experience. We look forward to strengthening this partnership in the coming years to bring out the best in everyone. Leyla liked “The Little Red Hen” story. She chose the Mathematics activity where she counted each item independently and wrote the numbers in the correct formation. on Breast Cancer Awareness day and we discussed how we can show concern for society in various ways. Umberto loves to explore books during Guided Reading. Obadara, Niki, Seleem, Amin and Zain performed well in the Enormous Turnip Celebration of Learning Assembly. Yassin liked to discuss stories that we read in class. He helped us with the “Once upon a time” action for story retells. Aasir was demonstrating risk-taking and perseverance. He attempted the shaky bridge even though he was afraid at Edoardo enjoyed our “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt” provocation. He described how the grass, mud and water felt under his feet. Lara kept on practising writing her letters and was using the correct formation. Sherifa, Haya, Serra, Farida and Wed are demonstrating being open-minded. We know that we made unique monsters to represent this. Toby loves writing. He was already writing sentences and tricky words by the end of Term 1. 44
