District Criteria for Placement in an AP Science course Consideration 1 A minimum grade requirement for placement in AP Science Courses should be considered to ensure that students are adequately prepared for the rigor of an AP course. ● A student moving from a general education class to an AP class would need a final average of 90 or above in the previous course. ● A student moving from an honors course to an AP course would need a final average of 85 or above in the previous course. Consideration 2 A standardized test requirement of either PSAT or NJSLA is a consideration for placement in an AP course. ● PSAT Benchmark score of 500 is required ● NJSLA score of 230-260 or above Consideration 3 A previous teacher recommendation is highly recommended for placement in an AP course based on qualifying traits needed to be successful in an AP course. Possible areas to consider include: ● High effort/determination/completes all assignments ● Can perform data analysis and evaluation of evidence ● Can engage in scientific questioning to extend thinking or to guide investigations ● Uses representations and models to communicate scientific phenomena and solve scientific problems. 115

The table below outlines the areas of consideration for admission to AP Humanities courses for the 2023-2024 school year. District Criteria for Placement in an AP Social Studies Course Consideration 1 ● A student going from a General Education class to an AP class should have an 85 or above in the previous course. A student moving from an honors course to an AP course should have an 80 or above in the previous course. Consideration 2 ● Evaluate the student’s PSAT score (if available): The Evidence-Based Reading and Writing score of at least 500 is the first indicator that the course is a good fit. Consideration 3 ● If a student is slightly less than a PSAT score of 500, check the student’s NJSLA scores (if available) 750 or above for the NJSLA score in language arts. Consideration 4 ● If both NJSLA scores and PSAT scores are just below the benchmark, PSAT 480- 500 and the NJSLA score is 725-750, but the student interest level is still high and the student meets the grade requirement, you can place the student in the course, provided the scheduling VP and/or the School Counselor has a documented conference with the child to outline expectations. A clear plan for support should be outlined and reviewed with the student and parent/guardian. Consideration 5 ● District teacher recommendation checklist is provided. Civil rights activists broke down numerous racial barriers through continued social protest and prompting of landmark legislation. Frustrated with the slow pace of change in the South and the North, the Civil Rights Movement changed, with new leaders, different agendas, including more militant strategies. Blacks were not alone.
