The Judges
As with all qualifying rounds in the contest, the results of the final round are decided by the audience and a group
of qualified judges. Throughout this season, we had a mix of returning and guest judges. It will be the same case at the
Final. Returning judges will have already seen some of what the Finalists are capable of. A new judge will never have
heard the finalists and their votes will be based entirely on the performances they witness at the Final. Therefore, to
earn the judges’ votes, the finalists must try to meet any expectations that the returning judges may have and to leave
the strongest first impression on a new judge. We think this combination is the best way to get a well-balanced result.
While the “popular” vote definitely matters, the input of people that we can count on to give unbiased, educated
opinions is invaluable... even when it simply serves to validate the overall opinion of the audience which is the case
more often than not. The judges’ contribution is vital in assuring this is more than just a popularity contest. Therefore,
we offer our sincere thanks to all of the judges who gave us their time throughout season 14.
Here are the judges who helped choose this season’s line-up of Finalists:
Joey Navarro is a singer-songwriter. After graduating from one
of Ontario’s regional art programs, he is currently attending OCAD
University for the arts. Joey usually performs as a solo artist, and has
made the final stages of many other contests including being the ju-
venile winner of season 7 of this contest. Last year, he sat along side me
as one of the coaches for the contest and also works as a vocal coach
outside of school. With many years of professional experience combined
with a formal musical education, we are always very happy to welcome
Joey back to the judges panel.
Yanni Caldas is a Canadian Composer, Sound Designer and Audio
Engineer who specializes in creating exciting, storytelling audio for pro-
fessional media productions. Yanni has been working in the entertain-
ment industry since 2014 and has scored for many television shows and
ads. He has also worked as an engineer for many bands and artists in-
cluding Six60, Phil X of Bon Jovi, Joey Joseph, Northern Lights, Christee
Palace, Greta Van Fleet and Havens. As a composer, Yanni has scored for
a variety of projects including American Pickers, Best Buy, CTV, Etalk,
Homicide Hunter, Tangerine Bank, The Aquarium and The Zoo. He is a
graduate of both the Audio Production & Engineering and Music Mixing
& Mastering programs at Metalworks Institute.

The Judges
Orin Isaacs is a 25 year veteran of the Canadian music scene. He’s a Juno
award-winning, Gold & Platinum-selling TV record producer, and over the last
20 years has been an in-demand TV and live event composer/producer/musical
director.
Best known for being the musical director of Canada’s longest running late
night talk show, Open Mike with Mike Bullard, Orin is one the country’s most
in demand TV composers. You’ve heard his work on shows like Big Brother
Canada, Amazing Race Canada, Battle of the Blades, The Launch, Canadian
Idol, The Juno Awards, The Canadian Screen Awards, Canada’s Walk of Fame,
Intervention Canada, Undercover Boss Canada, Chopped Canada, Top Chef
Canada, Match Game, Canada’s Smartest Person, Ice Road Truckers, Never Ever
Do This at Home and more.
Whether as bassist or musical director, Orin has worked with such inter-
national superstars as Mariah Carey, George Clinton, Tom Jones, Anne Murray,
Martina McBride, Natasha Bedingfield, Billy Ray Cyrus, Kid Rock, Lionel Richie,
Patti Labelle and the list goes on.
He has received a Harry Jerome Award for professional excellence, an Urban
Music Industry Special Achievement Award, The Reel Black Award, amongst
others, along with several awards for his active community service.

Valter Barberini has around 30 years experience in the music indus-
try. Born in São Paulo, Brazil, he traded in his toys for musical instruments at
a very young age. Always fascinated by music, he began composing at age 14,
inspired by his idols, The Beatles. Formally educated in advertising and mar-
keting, he worked in graphic design and video editing as well as performing in
many bands around São Paulo on guitar, bass, keyboards and vocals.
Also a lover of electronic music, he is skilled in midi programming and work-
ing with digital audio workstations. In 2012, Valter was the author and music-
al director of the first theatrical presentation for Brazilians in Canada, “Se essa
rua fosse minha” which played 4 shows at the University of Toronto.
He spent many years at the helm of one of the most popular and revered
publications for the Brazilian community in Canada, O Jornal da Gente. He
also produces and edits various pieces for television broadcast. Currently, he is
focused on recording and producing jingles for radio. He and his wife Marisa
Oliveira also perform regularly around town.
Valter sat on the judges’ panel at every round this season. We are really
happy that he will also be joining us at the Final, too.

The Judges
Joe Woods (AKA Joey Corsino) is a Canadian country singer/songwriter
born and raised in Toronto who has been performing since the age of 10. He
was vocally trained by former Canadian Idol judge Zack Werner and in 2014,
he was the first place winner the adult category of Season 8 of our contest.
Along with posting covers regularly on social media and rehearsing for up-
coming shows with his band, Joe is currently anticipating the release of his
debut album “Joe Woods - Story Of Your Life”. By the time this magazine is
published, his album should already be available on all the usual music plat-

Andronache (an-dro-naki) has pursued a diverse
career path, having at various times been an artist man-

The Judges
Anthony Wright is a composer, arranger, produ-
cer and multi- instrumentalist who grew up surrounded
by music. At 14, he was already playing with members of
the Isley Brothers and Surface, and by 16, he was the staff
arranger for Busch Garden’s Starlight Orchestra.
He excelled in his studies of Jazz Arranging &
Composition at the Shenandoah Conservatory Of Music,
in his native Virginia and eventually joined to the cruise
ship industry where his skills led him to become Carnival
Cruise Lines’ youngest Musical Director. To this date,
Anthony is responsible for almost half of Carnival’s writ-
ten shows. He also developed talent as a DJ on the ships,
becoming internationally renowned and playing major
clubs in Miami, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Los Angeles
& New Orleans. He currently runs a company offering DJ
services to various venues across Toronto.

while on her father’s side, they are Brazilian. Sabrina is in grade 7 and has been working with vocal coaches
for almost 4 years now. Her other hobbies include figure skating, playing with her cat, listening to music and
watching Netflix. She found out about the contest through her mother and aunt, both of whom were favour-
