Marisa Oliveira
Marisa Oliveira is the host of SCJS TV. We first met her
in 2011 when she joined the contest. She did very well in
the contest and was a real pleasure to be around. She and
John will also co-host the final together once again.
Marisa is a native of Sao Paulo, Brazil. She studied the-
atre formally and is an actress and singer with a passion
for Bossa Nova and Jazz. She has appeared in various TV
shows such as Paradise Lost, Crimes of Passion and Urban
Legends as well as various films. She also produced and performed in the musical "Se

Back On Track
Parallel to The Singing Contest, SCJS Studios is home
to the Back on Track program where we continue to
offer audio and video instruction to youth in the child
welfare system. Sandeep Sewnandan teaches lessons on
how to use Protools music software while Eddie Vallejo
Heredia teaches video shooting and editing. Students
Jake and Zack have had the opportunity to put their
knowledge into action, gaining work experience with
the contest. Unfortunately, since the COVID-19 lock-
downs, Jake’s lessons have had to be put on hold. Zack,
who is working on his own mini-series, is able to con-
tinue working on its development with Eddie through
distance learning. Both guys have pro-
gressed in a lot of ways since they’ve been

Season 13’s first place winners Kiana Medeiros (AKA Kiana
Sofia) and Precious Hernandez worked on their albums with
Anthony Wright. Andy Melo, also shown in the photos, played
guitar on both albums. Both albums sound great and we are real-
ly looking forward to hearing them both perform at the Season
14 Grand Finale but I guess we’ll just have to wait a little longer.
Kiana managed to finish her video but, unfortunately, Precious
wasn’t able to get hers done before the rules for self-isolation
began. Hopefully she’ll have time to do it before the new date
of the Final when both videos traditionally premiere. We won’t

Where are they now?
After last season’s Grand Finale, The Finalists per-
formed at the Paint The Town Red event in Port Credit,
Mississauga. It was our 3rd year participating in this pres-
tigious Canada Day event but this was the first time that
the SCJS Orchestra had been invited to join the singers
on the main stage. It was a lot of fun having everybody
back together again. Season 12 winners April-Joyce
Bulangcao and Samantha Gavin also performed
with the band. Season 10 winner Bruna Vilaca performed
a couple of songs with a group of dancers.

Each season, we like to feature the story of one of
our long-standing sponsors. This year, we’ve chosen to
tell you a little bit more about Angela Mesquita whose
