As the Member of Parliament for Davenport, I am proud to represent the largest Portuguese

Herran, Victoria Dimitrova, Patrick Lopes, Sabrina Barreto, Arielle Kowdrysh, Rosemary Alcayde, Julia Romanelli,
Shane Aludud & Natasha Costa
The Judges panel was made up of (bottom L clock-

Following COVID restrictions, the Judges watched the
performances on monitors in The Green Room. The con-
testants, along with some friends & families, watched the
big screens in the Main Hall. So far, it was definitely bet-
ter than Season 15 when no one but the contestants and
the production team were allowed in the building!

Seated at the Judges’ table were (L-R) Anthony Wright, Marisa Oliveira, Valter Barberini, Joey Corsino and Patrick
Albernaz.
This was the first time since the pandemic started that the judges were able to watch the contestants perform live and
not via a television monitor. It was also the first time back in front of a live, in-house audience. We are so grateful to
everyone who continued, and still continues, to support the contest by watching at home but there is nothing that com-
pares to performing for a live audience. Audience feedback is instantly palpable and enhances a singer’s performance
like nothing else can. And the 2nd round contestants were just the first group this season to experience performing the
way it was meant to be!

The 5th Qualifying Round
The rise of the Omicron variant in late
December meant that moving forward with
the 4th round in January would not be wise.
After the wave began receding, we held care-
fully spaced out rehearsals for the 5th round.
We found out that around 50% of the contest-
ants had been affected by Omicron. This was
the highest number since the pandemic start-
ed. Many contestants either couldn’t return
because they were sick themselves or because
they felt the risk was too high for the people
they lived with.
By the time the 5th round was held, all capacity limits had
been lifted in Ontario and things truly began to look like
the “good ole days”… except for all the masks, that is!
With only 10 competitors and no 4th round, Lisa & John
began calling the names of the new Semifinalists. With
masks off just long enough to reveal their smiles, the
new Semifinalists soon realized that everyone’s name had
been called and everyone from the 5th round was mov-
ing on to the Semis!
