The pervasive influence of Western perceptions of youth, femininity and sexuality among women, together with the increasing adoption of biomedical treatments have altered cultural understandings of women’s physique. It is apparent that medicalization and the female body have been discussed extensively in the Western academic community but to a lesser extent in non-Western settings so this book adds substantially to this discussion. Women’s physique is socially and culturally interpreted. Generally, many assume that women's bodies are predominantly for the purpose of production of desirable substances, primarily babies. Others described them negatively, as a process involving breakdown of central control. Based on these understanding, 15 articles related to women's physique and how they come to terms with their bodily changes are presented. This book has 13 chapters. It covers a wide range of women’s struggles with pregnancy and childbirth, motherhood, menstruation management, fatigue, body ache, mental health, disabled bodies and other related issues. Their struggle with their physique is real. To some extent, women make adjustments and negotiations to allow them to live comfortably in the contemporary society, while respecting and performing the obligations of their religious belief. Readers can see that the element of holding fast to Islam, adat (customary law), coupled with influences of Westernization are of prime importance in the lives of many women, and indeed in the society as a whole. This humble work is a compilation of our short articles that were published in online news portals. In realizing the importance of the message carried in the articles, as authors, we have decided to publish them in a book format. The language of this book has been made easy for everyone’s read, especially students. The topics discussed in this book are mainly on the contemporary issues of the Muslim World. As academicians of the Department of Fundamental and Inter-Disciplinary Studies at IIUM, we teach subjects related to Islamic Worldview, Islamic Civilization, Ethics, Creative Thinking and the current state of affairs in the Muslim World. In many places in the book, you will find mention of the Golden Age of the Muslims (750-1258) and the reasons behind the fall of the Islamic Civilization which started with the fall of Baghdad in 1258. From there on, one after another all Muslim empires fell inviting a host of many other problems into the Muslim World. After the colonization of the Muslim lands till today, the Muslim World is lagging behind others in the areas of science, technology and good governance. In order to fix these pressing issues, the Muslim World needs less politicking and more thinking Besides dwelling on the glorious past of the Muslim Civilization, we have also discussed contemporary issues like the brain drain phenomenon, matters of spirituality, human rights violation, co-existence, an idealism for world peace, the political turmoil in the Middle East that led to the Muslim diasporic community in the West, etc. Lastly, the aim of this humble work is not to create a reef between Muslims and others, but it is a call for coexistence that can create a better world for humanity where people live abiding by the philosophy of loving, caring and sharing. Dr Mumtaz Ali’s book is a wide ranging survey of the history and development of science He shows the unprecedented and seminal role of the Quran upon human thought and the enormous methodological debt modern Western science owes to truth based science’s contribution to the human intellectual heritage. Just as importantly, he makes it clear that, despite claims to neutrality and objectivity, the modern Western science, like all human activities reflects the modern Western assumptions of its practitioners Hence, he calls that science the ‘modern Western science’ which, he argues, is based on a false view of life and the world His contention is that the Enlightenment tendency which exile metaphysics from the realm of legitimate intellectual discourse obscured the metaphysical assumptions of the modern Western science’s practitioners He claims that science was ever developed based on the truth and reality of life and the world He advocates the revival of that truth based science Since truth based science had fallen into a deathlike coma, there has been no one to challenge those assumptions until recently Dr. Ali strives to sketch the unique characteristics of the truth based science that can help provide an alternative to the modern Western science that dominates scientific endeavor in the modern world. Hence, he defines Islamization of MUHAMMAD MUMTAZ ALI Department of Usul al-Din and Comparative Religion the modern Western science and its philosophy.

Over the last few years, researchers and policy makers are showing their interest in measuring the impact of climate change on migration and human displacement. It is projected that by the next 40 years, around one billion of the world population may move from their own place that has been affected by climate change (Laczko & Aghazarm, 2009). Already it is evident that some parts of the world have become less inhabitable than other parts due to climate change and its effects, such as desertification, pollution, natural disasters or decline of agricultural productions. There is a tendency for researchers and policy makers to see migration from a negative perspective and to initiate policies to reduce migration numbers from disaster prone areas. However, it would be oversimplification if it is said there are no such works. Few studies are found where researchers claim that migration could be one of the alternatives when other alternatives do not function properly to reduce vulnerability from climate change (Mustari & Karim, 2017). Despite the interest of researchers and policy makers to understand migration from climate change perspectives, very few documents are available in Bangladesh that answer the following questions: How many are migrating due to climate change? Who are migrating? When and where are they migrating? Are the new destinations better than their origin? Is the migration temporary or permanent? Internal or international? What are the consequences of migration for the people who move, for those left behind? These questions are tried to be answered properly with much concern so that policy makers can initiate the required policies to reduce the vulnerability of the community. Tasawwuf provides various and integrated approaches in managing emotions. It is Tasawwuf as the science of the soul deals with selfknowledge, the inner dimension of the human being for the purpose of moulding human personality or character. Islam as a way of life and a worldview offers its followers insights to treat the malaise of the soul in holistic, cognitive, rational and psycho-physiological ways. It is generally acknowledged that, spiritual cognitive therapy can have a significant impact on the treatment of emotional and spiritual disorders. In fact, most of the early Muslim scholars such as al-Ghazali al-Muhasibi and al-Balkhi were Islamic psychologists or Sufis who did their best to spiritually invigorate their disciples and refine their character. This approach of sufi ethics or Tasawwuf with its self-introspection in nature will serve as underpinning of individual and societal wellbeing and mental health that conditioned the development and prosperity of the ummah. This book argues that humanizing leadership is pertinent to nurture leaders who would become enablers to the strategic implementation and fair distribution of resources that would put an end of suppression, oppression, the ultimate purpose is to provide solutions for the predicaments that humanity face which require addressing issues related to the five Ps of the sustainable development goals- people, prosperity, planet, partnership and peace. Maqasid al Shari’ah can potentially provide a framework to achieve this aim. Spiritually can play an important role as God-consciousness will ensure that leaders recognise that they are responsible and accountable for their actions as authority is not a privilege but a ‘burden’. In relation the education landscape, humanization requires going back to the very fundamental question of what the purpose of education is- ‘transforming oneself and society to be better’. A model for humanising leadership can be developed from MUHAMMAD ADLI BIN MUSA Department of Qur’an and Sunnah Studies Prophetic guidance as Muhammad (saw) himself was a leader in various capacities.
Bagaimanapun, kiprah organisasi ini kembali meningkat sejak tahun 1970-an ALWI ALATAS Department of History and Civilization dan terus berkembang hingga sekarang ini.

“How can we help our young adults to thrive during COVID-19?” It is all started with this question. As academics and mental health professionals, we observed that university students struggle with multiple responsibilities, expectations, and the need to adapt fast during the early COVID-19. Many try to get help. Unfortunately, resources such as psychological services were scarce. For many months, one-on-one, face-to-face psychological services were halted during the early pandemic. Understandably, everybody was adjusting and trying to adapt. It does not exclude mental health professionals. In our region, not many were trained to conduct psychological services online. Ethical issues such as confidentiality and threats to the security and integrity of information were some of the challenges faced by mental health professionals. This slower the transition process to e-psychosocial services. Nevertheless, we learn, and we learn fast. We embody resilience. We continue reaching out to our young adults. Guided by the stepped care model, we believe the first step is to empower young adults to self-help using the tools in their hands – digitalized technology. Self-Help Plus (SH+) WHO’s 5-session stress management course, with prerecorded audio and an illustrated guide (Doing What Matters in Times of Stress), is the perfect module to be adapted and utilized. Moreover, many people turn to religion and spirituality in times of crisis; hence, the promotion of mental health and prevention of mental disorders must be integrated with spiritual elements. Knowing that people are overwhelmed with information during the pandemic leads us to believe that the services we want to provide must be simplified following a micro-content framework. It must also not take much of our young adults’ time to learn and practice the skills. Yet, we believe it must be frequent. With the above plan, we crafted the i-ACT For LifeTM module and designed it to appeal to young adults. Then, we piloted it and found it was feasible, appropriate, and, most importantly, accepted by our young adults. We further tested it in a Randomized Controlled Trial, and we found positive results. i-ACT For LifeTM was able to reduce the psychological distress of our young adults. Not only that, but it also increases their self-compassion, psychological flexibility, and resilience! We hope to continuously run the programme using digitalized technology and move towards more sustainable services. Meanwhile, we know we must not stop. This self-help book is published to materialize our i-ACT For LifeTM. So, while reaching our goals to digitalize it permanently, we hope the materials here will be helpful for people who find it beneficial in this format. This book reveals the key factors for developing progressive children who will be the leader of our society and the nation. The children being trained from the inception of childhood are the best when they reach the age of youthfulness. Then the parents are happy and understand that they have nurtured the best children. When we see those children who engage in uncultured and criminal activities, we know they have never received good training and nurturing and never stayed in a good environment. If you want to know more details, it is advisable to read this book until the end, and you will receive more valuable information and life-long lessons. This book is a guide for nurturing good children or developing a successful and happiest child in your home; we should always keep this book on our bookshelf as an important book. I pray to God. The `Lingua Revolution and Human Civilization’ is a book that discusses developments of the earliest world languages based on the development and civilization of Man. This book highlights several issues that rarely touched by historians and archaeologists regarding the relationship between human civilizations and the history and line of the prophethood that is told in the Quran, as if there is no relationship whatsoever between the history of human civilization and the stories of the prophets, including the language use of the prophets at those times. As a result of this analysis, the earliest civilizations, after the great Deluge, have become a form of scientific discussion as a result of the discovery of inscription stones that have been recorded before 3000 BC. This book reveals once again several of the world’s secrets that are rarely-explored by scientists in trying to dispute the validity of the existing Torah, as a consequence of the finding of inscription stones that have contain similar information SOLEHAH YAACOB Department of Arabic Language and Literature .
Negotiating Meanings: Engagement with Problematic or Contradictory hadiths in Medieval and Modern Times° is likely the first comprehensive study in English on the subject of mushkil al-hadith (problematic hadiths). This meticulously edited volume explores the intricate realm of interpreting and navigating these challenging texts within Islamic scholarship and offers invaluable insights into the methodologies and approaches employed to address their complexities. Within the pages of 'Negotiating Meanings,' readers will encounter the profound tradition of engaging with contradictory hadiths, traversing the realms of law, theology, and science. This enlightening work emphasises the significance of the riwayah (transmission) and dirayah (comprehension) traditions, which provides a nuanced understanding of the interpretive process. Going beyond historical investigation, 'Negotiating Meanings" also examines the contemporary problematisations of hadith, investigating the external and internal causes that have shaped discussions surrounding these texts. This volume invites scholars to explore the hidden aspects of the interpretive tradition, offering new insights and shedding light on problematic and contradictory hadiths. God exists, and indeed, God does exist in the minds of those who critically comprehend the inimitability of the Quranic verses. This book delivers the power of philosophy of the Arabic grammar as a tool in demonstrating the refutation of the most pronounced and frequent arguments postulated by atheism, which are inconsistent with God’s revelation. It also looks into the debate on the role of religious belief in education from the Islamic viewpoint. The rationale of delving into this debate is the silent but growing rejection on the role of religion in educating future generation among Muslims themselves who have taken the position that religious education has failed and has only exacerbated the lack of economic, social and political progress in the Muslim world. Islamic intellectual revivalism, especially cloaked in Arabic-centric world rather than Western-oriented, is under constant attack within and outside the realm of humanizing education. For Muslims, the existence of God or a Single Lone Creator is beyond doubt or debate solely based on the inimitability of the Quran. This book takes up the argument that Arabic grammar refutes the idea of non-existent divinity promulgated by atheism since the Holy Book has been consistent linguistically and philosophically in demonstrating that God is one and permanent. This book endeavors to undertake a comprehensive study of the Quranic discourse, with the primary objectives being to emphasize its significance, elucidate its distinct characteristics, and explore the myriad approaches for comprehending the profound message it conveys. The intention is also to draw upon its semantics, precise features, and various forms, so as to facilitate the enrichment of knowledge for students.Additionally, this research delves into the deeper understanding of the precise higher objectives and motivations behind the utilization of diverse forms of dialogue in the Quran. An imperative aspect of this pursuit is grasping the exact attributes of the Quran, its discourse, terminology, and its vast array of vocabularies. To illustrate these matters, the book delves into the thorough examination of the language employed in the Quranic discourse, including its formulaic segments, the excellence of its delivery, and additional components that contribute to its profundity. It also explores the original intent of the Quranic discourse, the foundational principles that underpin it, and its inherent characteristics. The book further explores the political, social, and educational discourses within the Quran, shedding light on their purposes and significance in the holy text. Moreover, it elucidates the purposes of the Quranic discourse as demonstrated by Sayyidina Mohammed, and expounds on the inductive and analytical approaches used to engage with the Quranic discourse. Al-ʿAqīdah Al-Burhāniyyah, an Ashʿariyyah creed, was introduced to Morocco in the 6th century. The widespread popularity of this book can be seen through the numerous lectures written about it, not only in Morocco but also in Egypt, Sudan, and other regions. It is notable for its similarities with Umm al-Barāhīn, written by Mu ḥammad bin Yūsuf al-Sanūsī, both in name and content. However, the author of Al-ʿAqīdah Al-Burhāniyyah presents his own opinions, such as including the attribute of al-idrāk in the list of attributes of al-maʿānī, which differs from the plurality of al-Ashairah and others. Additionally, Al-ʿAqīdah Al- Burhāniyyah holds significance as one of the turāth works of the western Islamic world (al-Maghrib al-Aqṣā). It engages in intellectual discussions regarding the essence of faith and serves as a condensed version of al-Irsyad, written by Imam al-Ḥaramayn al-Juwaynī. Dr. Ahmad Arif has provided academic translation and explanation for this book, enriching it with additional information for clearer understanding. The book is divided into three chapters. The first chapter encompasses the author’s biography, his students and teachers, as well as his scientific research. The second chapter delves into the background of the book, the author’s references, its societal impact, particularly in Morocco, and the lectures given by scholars on the subject. The third chapter focuses on translation. This type of book analysis, as demonstrated here, is still uncommon in Malaysia. Upon observation, it is evident that Al-ʿAqīdah Al-Burhāniyyah is highly suitable as a dawrah and study guide for those seeking a deeper understanding of faith. This book has been designated as a required text for the study of faith at the mubtadiʾīn level in Jāmiʿ al-Qarawiyyīn, Fes, Morocco. Department of Usul al-Din and Comparative Religion AHMAD ARIF BIN ZULKEFLI The book entitled “al-ʿAqīdah al-Ṣughrā” or “Umm al-Barāhīn” authored by al-Imam AbūʿAbd Allāh Muḥammad bin Yūsuf al-Sanūsī al-Tilimsānī, holds immense significance as oneof the most important creed books in Islam according to the Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah school. It encompasses all the necessary creeds for Muslims to liberate themselves from blind imitation(taqlīd) and attain an enlightened faith as agreed upon by scholars regarding the validity offaith.Recognizing its importance, numerous scholars have written explanations (Sharḥ),commentaries (ḥāshiyah), annotations (taʿlīqāt), summaries (naẓm), and other works related tothis book. Its influence has spread far and wide, making it a part of the curriculum in religious schools across the Islamic world, from Tangier to Jakarta. The emphasis placed on this invaluable creed is evident in its translations into various languages spoken by Muslims, including Persian, Turkish, old Malay, Urdu, Swahili, and others. It has even been translated into European languages such as French, German, Italian, and English during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. However, the book “Umm al-Barāhīn” has yet to be translated into certain languages, including Malaysian (derived from the old Malay language). Thankfully, Dr. Ahmad Arif bin Zulkefli has filled this gap and brought the Ashʿariyyah creed closer to the modern Malaysian community, especially those who may not be familiar with Arabic or are susceptible to the influence of deviant sects. Undoubtedly, his efforts will greatly benefit the people of Malaysia. The original Arabic text of ”Umm al-Barāhīn” may only be accessible to those well-versed in the intricacies of the Arabic language, and the old Malay translation may be challenging for those unfamiliar with the language. Furthermore, there are hidden treasures within the text that may remain undiscovered. Therefore, Dr. Ahmad Arif has rendered a tremendous service to the religion and civilization of the Malays, Muslims at large, and specifically Malaysians. His translation has also contributed to solidifying the Ahli Sunnah al-Ashāʿirah sect as the official sect of the country. Moreover, Dr. Ahmad Arif went beyond the mere translation of “Umm al- Barāhīn”. He provided an extensive biography of Imam al-Sanūsī and conducted a thorough study of the book’s content, delving into the twenty attributes and their discussion within the Ilāhiyyāt chapter. He also explored the obligations, impossibilities, and necessities concerning the Prophets and Messengers in the Nubuwwāt chapter, presenting both rational (ʿaqlī) and transmitted (naqlī) arguments for each attribute. Additionally, he explained the impact of “Umm al-Barāhīn” on religious writings in the archipelago and compiled a significant and beneficial list of such works. Furthermore, he aided the understanding of certain terms within the text that may pose difficulties for beginners (mubtadiʾīn) in their studies.

SOLEHAH YAACOB Department of Arabic Language and Literature Hakikatnya, perbincangan bahasa purba di Kawasan Mesopotamia masih lagi kurang diberikan pendedahan.Dunia Islam terlalu kurang mengkaji sejarah sebelum kelahiran Nabi Muhammad SAW.
