SCARY-FUN STORY

It was 1a.m. at night. Rohit was already late. The night was a bit
haunted with bat’s sound but more terrifying for Rohit because he was
late. He was scared that if his parents are awake then they will start to
fulfil their daily task of scolding him. But before entering the house the
swing in his house started to move gently and made a creaking noise.
This happened when there was no wind. At that instant moment Rohit
instead of getting scared of the moving swing, he thought that this is
the best time for playing badminton.

The stupid boy ignored it and started to walk towards his house. Then
suddenly a wind rushed past him making him almost lose his balance,
but he was a fat kiddo, who couldn’t get easily get knocked out and
was back on his feet. He ignored that indication of some ghostly
movements and walked forward.
When he was just about step in his house, a big cake dropped on his
head. And later he realized that there were some spiders in it which
were fake but was enough to scare him away. The poor scared kid
rushed to the backyard to go through the stairs and reach his parents
room window, where he could call them up. And he did go accordingly
to the escape plan he thought in his mind. And now, I am going to say
that life is full of disappointments.
Rohit saw blood and blood on window and at the door. He thought that
the escape plan sounded much better in the mind than in execution.
Rohit screamed and said, “I take an oath of now never coming late to
the house ever again, so god now save me.” The next thing which
happened was a person tapped on his shoulder. The kid screamed as
hard he could that it shut the barking dog in the street.
It was his parents and his brother who were laughing like they could
die laughing like this. That time he said, “Now, I can breathe.” And the
back story of this story was explained to the frightened rohit. The blood
was fake blood saved for last Halloween, the air was the vacuum
cleaner and the cake was thrown from the rooftop. In the end, it was
not lesson to be taught to rohit but was a prank by his parent and
brother for wishing him a HAPPY HALLOWEEN.

2020, WAS IT REALLY THAT BAD?

A hallmark year in many lives, 2020 brought many new norms with itself and
was one of the most unpredictable years seen in a long while. But why is it
deemed as the, ‘Worst Year’ I ask myself? With that I venture into a deep
train of thought on the year 2020 and reach a question which left me
pondering, ‘Was 2020 really a bad year?’ To answer that lets revisit 2020.
The year started just as usual with our resolutions, family and hopes of a
better year. But around the first half of January 2020 a certain piece of news
started circulating, news about a new virus called the, ‘SARS-CoV-2’ also
called the, ‘Coronavirus’ or, ‘COVID-19’ for short. The virus apparently had
no cure, was never seen before and highly transmissible. But all of us ignored
it thinking that ‘It only has confirmed cases in China, what can it do to me in
India?’ But on 27th January 2020 things changed, India had reported its first
confirmed Coronavirus patient a 20-year-old woman from Kerala. What
started on 27th January 2020 with one case became 30 cases which became
1,000 which in today’s date is over 10.5 lakh cases just in India.
But the first few cases didn’t affect anyone’s lives, people were living their
regular routines, and all was normal. But with a surge in cases Prime
Minister, Shri Narendra Modi declared March 22, 2020 a, ‘Janta Curfew’
which required all citizens to stay indoors for one whole day and not step out,
essentially following the ‘Lockdown Format’ which was being followed by
nations like Italy which were reporting some of the highest Coronavirus
cases in the world. As COVID-19 was declared a world pandemic by WHO
India soon to shifted on to a 21-day Lockdown as a precaution to surging
COVID-19 cases. What was a 21-day Lockdown where people enjoyed in
their homes, learnt household chores and spent time with their families was
extended by 4 weeks which again was extended further. All though India was
winning the battle against the Coronavirus it was finally succumbing as
callousness in citizens was leading to higher cases which in turn had many
bad effects like an economic recession, high number of unemployment,
higher bankruptcy rate and multiple more which slowly gave the year its
reputation.

Areas like the Aviation Industry or Businesses were unable to function,

employees were losing income in the forms of salary cuts and firings. Even us,

students had to move to an online mode for our education. But it wasn’t just the

schools almost every aspect of our lives was becoming online, from school to

work to grocery shopping, the pandemic was the final piece of the puzzle which

made our world, a place of social gatherings, enriching experiences and most

importantly learning all in front of a screen. This was another reason why 2020

had a sour reputation, the lack of not only human contact but also digitalization

of the world, which forced children and adults alike to be on a screen 24 hours a

day.

But it is in the nature of a human to overlook the benefits of any situations and

fixate on the inferior. 2020 helped nearly every human to find themselves, to get

to know themselves, to break the oscillatory life that they had. On the other end

of the spectrum many people embraced and gave flight to their dreams in 2020

whilst many ventured into new and unknown territory. The single most important

good thing that came out of 2020 was family. Families strengthened bonds, go to

know each other better and most importantly spend time with each other, a time

which we used to yearn prior to the pandemic. In conclusion 2020 was an

experience, a hallmark year in our lives, a year which taught us and a year where

we all found ourselves. 2020 all though not a bed of roses was truly one of my

favorite years in my 13 years of existence

KINDNESS, WHAT IS IT? MIHIKA SHARMA
VI- NARMADA

The question is a big one. How does one define kindness? Well kindness is a magical
thing which does miracles. Sometimes what people need is just simple kindness. It is
a quality which should be present in each person, and each one should understand it.
Benevolence, generosity, humanity, yes these are all words for it but do all these
words actually make us understand kindness? Understanding it is quite simple if you
will and wish to. Just one simple act of kindness can make your whole day a
remarkable one so imagine how fruitful your life would be if you practice it daily. But
now how to begin? It is easy, start with doing something good for your loved ones
then move on to your neighbours. I read in a book, “When given a choice between to
being right and being kind, choose kind.”
When we do something nice for someone or help them in a way I am sure we all feel
very contented; a sense of peace and achievement gathers around us but we also stay
in someone’s memories and those are the people whom we helped today. If you help a
person they will always be there for you in your happy and hard times. It will make a
chain of kindness as the person will be inspired by you and would like to continue
this to more people. It will also be beneficial for the society.
Kindness is a way of bringing joy to a person’s life and ours too. It is also known as
‘the virtue of love’ and shows the quality of having a sympathetic, affectionate, warm
hearted and a considerate nature. So from now on let’s start doing a few acts of
kindness every day and from now on I mean from today, from this very moment to
accomplish are goals of a happy and content life and society. I would like to conclude
by saying that just one simple act of kindness can bring a big difference.

Why do you always make me feel small?
Comparing me to people who have it all Why am I always inferior to you?
Why am I always second-best? Underestimating my true value
Putting my patience to the test I’m next to nothing, you say
Why am I so below par? But I’ll take that over being you anyway
Unlike the idol you are Some nights I feel like crying
Find myself thinking Sometimes more like dying
How you can put me down without Don’t feel good enough to live

So, I’ve decided I don’t care anymore But now I’ve decided
I’ve decided just to leave it Won’t let myself be blighted

Lockdown as we know, has been a bummer,
Locked inside the house, I have become dumber and
dumber,
People are crying to go out,
But the consequences will be worse than a drought,
For no one wants to catch the virus so deadly,
Knowing you have it will be extremely dreadly!!

People say it will be over, don’t worry,
And soon we will be in a restaurant, eating delicious curry,
However, for all humans, it was worth a lesson,
Which made them go through immense depression,
Having learnt that messing up with nature,
Will surely put us in grave danger!!

But now it’s time to achieve glory,
And make sure that lockdown remains, but a memory!!

EXOPLANET - GASOBOUS

MY EXOPLANET - gasobous

This exoplanet is located beyond our galaxy, in the large magellanic cloud. It
rotates around a large hot planet, named venosum.

It is extremely hot and life on it is not possible. There is shortage of water and
food.

The characteristics of gasobous include:

The interior of Gasobous is made of a metallic iron core that is roughly 2,400
miles (6,000 km) wide.

GASOBOUS' molten rocky mantle is roughly 1,200 miles (3,000 km) thick.
GASOBOUS' crust is mostly basalt, and is estimated to be 6 to 12 miles (10 to

20 km) thick, on average.

GASOBOUS is the hottest planet in IT’S GALAXY. Its dense atmosphere traps
heat in a runaway version of the greenhouse effect that warms VENOSUM. As a

result, temperatures on Gasobous reach 880 degrees Fahrenheit (471 degrees
Celsius), which is more than hot enough to melt lead.

INDIAN ECONOMY: RISING FROM THE ASHES

India is slowly becoming one of the potential superpowers in the world. But still
today India is counted as a developing country or an emerging economy. Have we
been always poor? What about the India that invented the ZERO? I am going to take
you through the journey of Indian economy’s past, present and future today. So fasten
your seatbelts and keep your mind open.
Historically, India was the largest economy in the world for most of the two
millennia from the 1st until 19th century. The Harappan civilization brought forth
flourishing trade from faraway lands like Iran and Afghanistan. They sold lead and
copper and imported jade and cedarwood from China. Terracotta pots were sold too.
Through excavation, archaeologists found out that they also sold coloured gemstones
such as lapis lazuli and turquoise.
During the late 17th century, the Mughal Empire was in full swing, containing
approximately 24.2% of the world’s population, and produced almost a quarter of the
world’s output. By the early 18th century, India or Mughal India produced about 25%
of the global commercial output.
However, after the death of Aurangzeb, the Indian subcontinent fell into disarray.
Several kingdoms and princely states developed. And the Britishers, Portuguese,
Danish, Dutch and the French took this opportunity to establish trading centres in
several coastal cities. But soon after, the British East India Company defeated the
other colonists and soon established a British hegemony over the Indian
subcontinent.
They introduced several harsh measures that hampered the growth of the economy
and severely depleted its resources. It caused a severe decline in the handloom
industry, where United Kingdom surpassed India as the world’s largest textile
manufacturer in the 19th century. According to Shashi Tharoor, “They found that they
could not succeed by buying Indian textiles and had to destroy it, and they did that
systematically.”
After the British left India in 1947, India came under the crisis of the Partition which
severely impacts Indo-Pakistani relation to this day.
However, since independence India is continuously progressing in the right direction
to gain back the lost glory. Let us look into some economic indicators. In 1960 Indian
Gross Domestic Product (GDP), which is the measure of everything produced within
the country, was 37 billion USD. From that low in 2019 our GDP has grown to 2.8
trillion USD. The GDP per capita has also grown from $82 in 1960 to $2100 in 2019.
India is currently the 5th largest economy in the world after USA, China, Japan and
Germany. India is now ahead of UK who ruled and ruined us for 200 years.

SRINJAY MUKHERJEE
IX- EVEREST.

Continued….

India’s percentage of people below poverty line has declined steadily while our
literacy rate has gone up from 41% in 1981 to 74% in 2018. Our population has
also increase many folds from about 380 million in 1950 to about 1400 million
in 2020. Many people believes this is a problem for India. But in terms of
economy this is a good problem to have especially since about 25% of this
population is below 19 years of age. So we are a very young nation. In
economic terms Output (which is growth) is a factor of Labour and Capital.
Considering advanced economies in Europe and countries like Japan’s
population are growing more and more older and they are looking in to a work
force problem. India having the second largest workforce, with ~500 million
workers, is well positioned to fill in that gap. The COVID-19 pandemic has also
put India in the world map as the world’s largest manufacturer of generic drugs
and fulfilling over 50% of the global demand for vaccine.
So has India arrived there yet? We still have lot of scope to improve and get our
acts together as a country. Many states within India are lagging behind the
average in terms of health care, education and children mortality rates. India is
working to improve its infrastructure development which will bring in more
industry and more jobs. Our PM has called for increasing manufacturing within
India as he launched “Atmanirvar Bharat” campaign. As per the vision of
current Indian Government India aspires to become a 5 trillion dollar economy
by the year 2030. There is a big role to play for every citizen of India especially
the youth like us. We, the young, should feel proud about what India has
achieved so far within 73 years of independence and follow the teaching of
Swami Vivekananda “A brave, frank, clean-hearted, courageous and
aspiring youth is the only foundation on which the future nation can be built” to
accept the responsibility from our previous generations and fulfil the dream to
take India to the top spot in the world.

WE WILL CONQUER THIS PANDEMIC...
Recalling the horror of 2020…

With its origin in china,
From Italy to India
Disrupting economic desire
Its spreading like wildfire.

Yes, it is the corona virus,
Not a normal flu or a sinus
It will make you utter a painful cry,
Don’t take precautions and you’ll eventually die.

Use hand sanitizer and the mask,
They’ll surely take the virus to task
Practice social distancing, please!
And the sooner you’ll come out of this disease.

Wash your hands and keep yourself clean
If you really wish for this pandemic not to be seen,
Don’t meet anyone- Right now Everyone is a stranger,
Stepping out of the house will only invite danger.

Being quarantined will not break your relationship
Fortunately, a slower mode of transmission for corona to grip
Last thing on your mind should be to go out and roam
Spend time with your family for there’s no place like home!

Salute those Corona Warriors who work day and night to protect us,
But, criticize those who disobey them and create a fuss
Be thankful that all of us are safe and alright,
Credits go to those heroes clad in khaki and white.

So, co-operate to eradicate this epidemic,
And surely one day, the world will conquer this pandemic….

MY LOCKDOWN DIARIES

The year 2020- the most extraordinary year! Where the contagious Corona
Virus had infected and even took lives of so many people- that a lockdown
had to be declared- a lockdown wherein all educational institutions, offices
had to shut close which meant that I had to stay home 24*7, which eventually
made me realize that venturing out of the house, exploring my favourite
places whenever I liked, is a GIFT. The School commenced with the online
classes which I found interesting, but at the same time understood the joy a
student derives when he plays in the school ground, eats in the school
cafeteria with numerous other friends and has the benefit of a face-to-face
interaction. But this period was also a blessing in disguise for me as I could
spend time with my family, play board games, watch movies and chat away
for long hours which was never possible in the normal days. And apart from
that, I decided to be more productive and explored my interests- that’s when I
discovered my love for cooking- I would read diet books and, on several
occasions, invented my own recipes by plopping random ingredients in the
pan! Also, I discovered that I had a knack for Pottery painting- and so I did,
creating colourful pen stands, crockery etc. with some old wooden blocks and
a pinch of interest!

Well, now a year as dull as 2020 can be made interesting with a plethora of
celebrations! Taking the example of one of my favourite festivals, Diwali… I
discovered its true essence- exchanging love and blessings with you family
and friends. I did a zoom call with them and enacted Ramayana for my little
cousins. And truly, when I heard those little innocent giggles, it filled my
heart with glee! And because 2020 would go down as one of the worst years
in the history, 31st December was when I was actually very excited because I
was very much looking forward to the new year, more like a new beginning!
Now, I truly hope that 2021 turns out to be the exact opposite of 2020, when
we can roam about without wearing masks, meet our loved ones without the
fear of getting infected and continue to live our lives happily and
NORMALLY, like we did before! We are still fighting and we sure will
succeed! Well, to cut a long story short, for my New Year Resolution,
Pandemic or not, I would ensure to give ample time to self, my family, my
hobbies and see the glass as half full rather than half empty! Thank you for
reading my experience, wish you a safe 2021!

WARRIORS OF INDIAN INDEPENDENCE
A Tribute to the Warriors on Republic Day...

The Indian Flag does not sway on its own,
It furls with the last breath of every warrior who has gone.
Be thankful, the country’s men are safe and alright,
Credit goes to the heroes- Oh! The powerhouses of might!

Salute to those men who fought for the nation,
Who gave away their lives without any hesitation!
They said, “Live freely my beloved Indians and keep your head high!
…But forgive us brothers, it’s time to bid goodbye.”

Those warriors never stopped despite the bloodshed
So how can we stop, for the Tales of Valour must be spread!
Dare not to disregard their sacrifice
Each soldier in war, with patriotism in his eyes!

When others were sleeping soundly
They were awake, covered in red
Just so we could live merrily,
They agreed to dig their own deathbed.

We were unknown to them,
But they selflessly stood firm on the ground
With their tanks and with their guns,
The lions killed all the devils in one round!

They could live lavishly,
But they didn’t
Smiling in the face of the adversity,
Oh! What pain they went through inside- Not even a soul got a hint!

Others may have forgotten,
But, how can I?
May the tricolor of our nation,
Always furl High!
