Dear Children

The sculptor made the heart hard. The painter made the
eyes unseeing. The prodigy made the mouth speechless.
The craftsman made the hands still. The virtuoso made the
feet frozen.

How are parents different? How are teachers different?
How are you, my dear students, different?

The work parents and teachers do in your life is much
more than what sculptors, painters and craftsmen do,
because ultimately, each one of you will be valued far
more than a masterpiece made by these prodigious
virtuosos.

From your mind and spirit, will come forth your creation.
Thinking, feeling beings who will carry on your legacy as
you will carry on the legacy of your parents and your
school.

Sadaiv agrani!
May God bless all of you!

Dear Suncitizens

Earth is still a blue planet. New is still being shaped on the
anvil of the old. A poem is still a version of the heavenly
bodies, the forces of nature, the sky, the oceans, the land and
all the living beings on and in them. Nature’s story can still be
told in all its glory.

Goodness still gives out a rich scent. Blessings still play a role.
Happiness still does the rounds of human habitation.
Thinking still cannot threaten dreams or vice versa. Songs are
still without prejudice. Relationships still leave a legacy.

God is still life’s chief designer. Good and evil are still
opposites. Humans are still not past their humanity and
humaneness.

Therefore, children, thank God for everything, every day and
never take anything for granted.

All the best!

Uncertainty has become a certain way of life and we adults have our own thought process
regarding the numerous uncertainties which have come surging into our lives especially in the
recent past. We fret, we fume, we fear. We hardly bother to put the facts in place and let fear
rule our thoughts and actions.
Very few of us are comfortable with uncertainty. Most of us find it a challenge being fearless in
the face of the unknown. For adults, uncertainty usually fuels anxiety.
On the other hand if you observe a child his/her reaction to uncertainty is so encouraging- as
soon as he sees uncertainty, his curiosity comes to the fore and leads to numerous questions.
For children uncertainty usually fuels curiosity.
One of the most powerful life skills adults can teach a child is to learn to tackle uncertainty.  To
be Fearless in the face of the unknown.
The ability to do this successfully is deeply rooted in the degree trust that one has in oneself to
handle whatever comes next. If one holds faith in ones ability and the supreme power, then one
will believe the outcome can be tackled.
As a teacher having observed children very closely almost in a myopic manner, I have learnt to
study uncertainty from their perspective.
For them their flexibility is one of the greatest assets. They are so malleable that they can adjust
to any situation however we question their actions, with our fears; as the parameter for
outcomes.
During phases of uncertainty we need to be vigilant when the children fumble but not share
our thoughts until the moment passes. This will help build their decision making, critical
thinking skills and help raise their belief in themselves.
It is important to talk calmly to the children rather than react in the face of situations of
unpredictability.
As adults we are risk-averse hence in times of uncertainty sometimes we do not trust our
instincts and react from fear psychosis and thus suffer from decision paralysis.
The basic instinct of a child is very strong hence trust them, trust their ability.
This too shall pass but what they learn from the situation will leave an indelible mark on their
mind.
It will form their character and strengthen their mental ability. It is thus upto us adults to decide
how we would like to mould them in these tough times.
To live a life of courage, commitment and collaboration, resulting in caenogenesis, should be
our aim.

In every adversity lies an opportunity.

‘Don’t hide your light, let it shine for  the world to see it glow.’

Dear Children,
In the backdrop of the new world order you have all transcended from the
known to the unknown. The lessons learnt during these adverse times must
change your perspective of life. There is a dire need to re-discover and equip
yourselves now for the brave new world.
While the world is looking for innovations and creations at a pace never known
before to resolve the present crisis. It is imperative that the challenges that you
face today must push you to introspect in the emerging global context.
Remember, as you educate yourself with contextual learning, you must be
careful to never get ‘educated out’ of creativity because ‘Creativity is always in
vogue’. Therefore, evoke and unleash your spirit of innovative thinking    and
activate your CQ- creativity quotient.
Develop a high degree of self-confidence along with the courage to lose to your
fear of being wrong.  Learn to   reason, experiment, improvise and incubate new
ideas and concepts. As you discover yourself, it is perfectly fine to make
mistakes   – be original.
Edward de Bono, a leading authority in the field of creative thinking claims that it
is important to destruct conventional patterns and encourage lateral thinking. He
believes that this can be used for changing concepts and perceptions rather than
continuing working on the known.
High degrees of brain storming are a must to ignite creativity. The main goal of
creativity is to challenge the old and find better ways to recreate the tested and
approved paradigms.   Sometimes changing the direction of the sail and location
of your thought can lead to new and unexpected practical solutions. It is thus
important to learn from positives as well as negatives.
So, go all out and encourage departure from existing practices. Pamper your
intuition and stimulate the zeal that lies hidden within. Think freely and expand
the canvas of your thought, enjoy the continuous process of learning above and
beyond.
Dare to believe in yourself……you are the creator of your life!

EDITORIAL Dear Students,
It is words ultimately. Between you
and me and them. What you want to
say and what I hear and what they
interpret may be completely
different. What is unsaid is also
imagined and interpreted. We write
and speak from what we see and
perceive and dream. Some of us see
things like we see the sky. Open and
clear and vast and all at the same
time. Some of us see beyond as
through binoculars and telescopes.
Some of us see partially like through
an open door or a window. Some of us
see through tinted glass like goggles.
We see the sun, the sky, the horizon,
the earth with all its life forms and
everything made by humans. They all
keep moving in and out of the span of
our vision, inner and outer. Hence,
our worldview keeps changing all the
time. We agree and disagree with one
another over what we see and
perceive and interpret. What you read
and see in the pages of Synergy
reflects that. Write more in order to
see what you see. In order to perceive
what you perceive. Writing daily is a
kind of self-education. Do not wait to
be given a topic. It is not sufficient.
Writing brings revelation. One who
writes is in an awareness state. Our
words are not the same. Show the
world how different you are. Write.

ARTICLES OF ENDURING SIGNIFICANCE

FIND THE SKY
Aanya Dahuja, VI G

All of us live in the same
world under the same sky.
From a scientific point of
view, the sky shows us the
world of amazing
possibilities, endless spans of
space and time. From a
romantic point of view, it tells
us that we are not alone. “Find
the sky” means find your
potential and abilities. The
sky is my constant
companion. It intrigues me, it
inspires me, it gives me
strength, optimism, the
courage to dream and
achieve. The sky waters my
curiosity to ask questions,
look beyond the obvious and
challenge my abilities. Like
they say, “We all live under
the same sky but we all don’t
have the same horizon”. The
sky is not the limit. Our
potential and opportunities
are higher and wider than the
sky. Why shoot for the stars
when you can shoot for the
outer reaches of the vast
celestial cosmos. Embrace
your freedom, look for and
find your own sky, your
potential goes way beyond
the sky. Don’t be ordinary; be
extraordinary! Henry Ford
once said, “I am the controller
of my own destiny.” With
persistence and belief in self,
creative thinkers find their
own horizon, define their
own limits and decide their
own destiny.

SOLUTION
Anmol Dhingra VI G

Everywhere on Earth there is a lot of pollution
For this problem we have no solution.

We polluted the air, the land and the sea.
Listening about that does really hurt me.

Whenever I go for a jog.
All that I can breathe is only smog.
Whenever I walk, listening to my favorite band
All I see is the garbage on the land.
Cars and factories polluting the air.
I think the Earth really needs our care.

Can we not cycle or walk?
We are destroying the seasonal clock!.
Can we not decrease the amount of trash?

The Earth’s turning to ash.
Into the sea, can we not spill oil?
Marine life is going to get spoilt.
I hope you get what I am trying to say:
For us and the Earth, this is the only way.

SONG OF NATURE
Pakhi Kshirsagar, VI G
When the sun is gone, I love the moon that
shines so bright
Whose moonlight comes into my room at night.
I love the honey which comes from bees,
Which we eat when we sneeze.
I am smitten by the oceans blue,
I hope this much remains true.
I am a ected by the greenery of the trees,
Just don't cut them down please!
Now this is the divine song of nature,
I hope this will stay true in future.

WHAT NATURE FEELS
Jia Sharma, VI G
Our mountains are brown
Our plants are green
Our rivers are blue
And all this is true
But our nature feels grey
Let’s not downplay
The reasons, which are
Deforestation, overpopulation and war!

STARRY NIGHT SHINING BRIGHT
Preesha Sharma, VIII E

The uncanny darkness of the night sky
Adorned with diamonds that catch my eye
As I stare at them blissfully
I wonder what they could be
Some say they are the planets beyond
Some say they’re the souls of people long gone
Glittering on the endless dark canvas each night
Scattered before my eyes in coruscating light
Keeping the lonely nights away
Until the sun rises and brings a new day
These twinkling lights leave you in a peaceful spell
Each one of these stars has a story to tell
A glimpse of their wonders will leave you awed
They’re a blessing from heaven, a gift from God.

I AM THE EARTH!
Asmita Ray, VIII A

I can see
I can feel
I can hear
It is real
The extinction of me;
Creeping slowly from the rear.

No! No! No! I cry,
Yet no one can see

My attempt
To be free

From this cold hospitality
You serve in your mirth
And have forgotten that
I am the Earth!
I am the Earth!

I give you my all,
Yet nobody at all
Has been able to free
Themselves from their greed
Though they want to
But how? They have no clue!

God created me
And He hears my plea.
But the one I gave birth
Doesn't know my worth

As I cry to him:
That I am the Earth!

I am the Earth!!

POSITIVITY
Sanvi Mittal, VI G

Sometimes life is tricky
Sometimes things go wrong
Sometimes you feel out of place
Sometimes lonely.
So being positive and focusing
On your blessings is the only way.
When you really think why me!
When you're really blue,
When the world has turned against you,
And you don't know what to do!
When you feel it’s pouring clossal drops,
When the saddened sun won't shine,
When the stars won't align,
And you keep on thinking why me!
Visit your home: Nature
To receive positive vibes,
You'll feel you're all right,
The world is with you.
And you won't feel why me!
Know that there are bad times
But the happy Sun also rises.
Understand that being positive
Turns things around.
Stay true to nature
She will never let you down.

TEARS OF DARKNESS
Tara Dalal, IX D

It all began with a whisper in the air, you
may call it the “calm before the crazy”.
Tiny drops of rain transformed into silver
icicles by the time they reached the earth.
Soon the merry shadows were dancing
wildly on the deserted streets and the
warm beach breeze turned into a howling
wind like a werewolf on a full moon. The
trees were flying back and forth and the
night sky looked like a train’s smoke. Then
the entire sky was lit up by a sudden bolt
of lightning. The streetlights flickered; it
was as if the ominous clouds seemed to
gobble up the light only to leave their
darkness behind. Thunder bellowed and
rumbled in the sky, while the waves were
crashing furiously against the rocky cliff.
The foamy white waves could be seen
from above and the hiss and howl of the
wind made it even worse. The wind
gushed past the broken shutters and the
doors of the abandoned houses flew
open. The rain was pouring so heavily
that it turned into a blurred, long,
whirring noise. It seemed as if the
floodgates of the heavens had been
opened and no-one was there to shut
them up. The streets filled up with
torrents of water and the drains gurgled.
The flood swept away small saplings and
flower beds. It snapped an old tree into
two. The indiscriminate and frenzy winds
cause a whirlwind, dangerous and
mesmerising. The sea churned into a
whirlpool and devoured everything in its
path. Finally, the pelting rain fell steadily,
with low, monotonous susurration. The
wild squall quietened into a zephyr. The
dark and vengeful sky seemed to lose all
anger and calmed down as the clouds
wafted away with the sigh of the dawn.
The night fell into a deep slumber as the
first rays of sunlight wiped away the tears
of the darkness before.

MOTHER
Maanya Gumber, VII F

Mother, your work is never done,
You hardly have time for fun!
I don’t know how you do it
With a smile on your face
And never lose it!

It’s a struggle to get through each day,
Only mothers seem to do it!

You are brave, strong and pretty;
I don’t know how you do it all,

You don’t even have time to go to a mall!
We fight, we smile

We are like best friends for a while.
Hardworking is your way, all day,
You make snacks, change diapers,

Call the teacher and pay the Piper,
Your shoulders pain, you get fever,

You can’t sleep, yet in a while,
You get up with a smile!

You literally tear up your body
So I could smile,

Eat, drink and live in great style.

WE WERE A MASTERPIECE
Janya Nanda, VIII A

Maybe we were the lucky ones
Maybe we were meant to be.
We were once golden

And the setting sun set us free.
We were a masterpiece

But you went and tore it all up.
Can't put these pieces back together,

Can't turn back time,
But did wistful thinking,

Ever hurt a mind?
Days of tossing and turning, sleepless nights,

I'm blinded by these flashing lights.
If hearts were made to break, there must be a cure,

Maybe it's love, love completely pure.
Life isn't decided in a moment or two,

Yet I feel mine is over without you.
I need another chance, cuz time's gotten slower.
Every breath is a battle, and I'm losing this war.

This all can't sink, even though it's too heavy.
These floating truths, they torture me daily.

But who will tell the society,
That she is not the only one meant to take the children's care.
She can become anything she wants to be,
Her only need is to be free,
She is the start of a movement,
And will leave the world with some improvement.

NATURE TALES
Ambar Gogia, VIII B

One blissfully bright day,
A frog was merrily going his way

Enjoying beauty
And hearing what the skylarks had to say.

Then misfortune struck;
Into thin air he was plucked

By a crow
Black as his own shadow.
The frog thought quickly

And spoke slickly,
Buying time to break free

From the top of a tree.
He made a last request,
‘Sharpen your beak.’ At his behest,
He did so but asked, ‘Why?’
‘This reduces pain,’ said the sly
Frog and slipped out of his hold.

The water was cold
Of the pool nearby!
The crow could but watch and cry!
His lunch teased him
From the safety of his swim.
‘You ravenous fool!
At least wipe your drool!’

FROM A MEMOIR
Aarohi Arora, VIII-E

There I was, standing amidst the music and the commotion of
the store. In the corner, a boy was reading a book, drifting off
into his wonderland. A crazy lady was chiding her assistants.
And I was preparing myself for the final round. I had been
anticipating this moment for the past two weeks and I couldn’t
believe that I had finally reached the finale, the moment I had
been fantasising about when I would shake hands with Ruskin
Bond. My heart started hammering against my chest. I could
feel the sweat beads on my forehead. As the clock struck ten, I
started reciting my all-time favorite Charlie and the Chocolate
Factory. Everybody dropped their work and congregated around
to see my performance. Looking at the positive response of the
people, I felt that I would be the one holding the prize amidst the
applause with my parents standing beside me proudly. When I
finished, the assistants, the judge and the customers clapped. It
was no doubt the proudest moment of my life. That was when I
realized that my opponent was a small girl who began reciting
Red Riding Hood. “Seriously? I am competing with a girl from
first grade, reciting a fairy tale! No doubt I am going to win!”
“Child, don’t be so overconfident. You never know what might
happen. Confidence is good, but overconfidence will sink your
ship,” said my mum. “Okay….Whatever! I am pretty sure that
the prize will decorate my wall. Moreover, I am senior to her,
how can I lose to her?” After Aarya’s performance, she too was
appreciated. Undoubtedly she had done a spectacular job and I
was tense but a part of me told me that it was going to be me.
As the judge went up the stage with a paper, my heart skipped a
beat. She said, “And the winner is Aarya! I must say that Aarohi
did a fantastic job and she also deserves to win. Unfortunately,
there is only one winner, and that is Aarya as her performance
was really cute!” This was when my heart broke; all the things I
had hoped for, prayed for were shattered. A tear was forming,
but I wouldn’t let it fall. I controlled myself and went to
congratulate her. Even though she had won, I was commended as
everybody claimed that I did well and should have won. I cried
and was sad for a day but it only made me stronger. The only
thing was to accept it, learn from it and strive to do better next
time. From that day, I began to look upon failure as a learning
opportunity.

Nurture Nature,
As our creator.
Else it will falter,
Our plans we must alter.

The sight of trees is a beauty,
And giving oxygen is their duty.

The lush green grass,
Looks like shining brass.

When the Sun rays fall,
The morning calls.

The hills open their arms,
To the monsoons in advance.

Protect our bountiful nature,
Else it will become a caricature.
Preserve it, love it and embrace it,
And let’s take a pledge to save it.

INSTEAD
Saanvi Kastiya, VI D
One day, instead of being in bed,

I saw I was dead!
Instead of being brave,
I was cowering in a grave.

I thought it was hell
When ding dong went the bell.

I jumped up in fright
And was shocked by the sight:

The wind was sighing
By my grave, mum was crying
And I wished that instead of being dead

I were asleep in my bed.
