Live life to Express…not to Impress.
PREFACE
As the sun kissed the mist of the wintry morning on Day 1 of the New Year,
with temperatures plummeting to record lows; it is our fiery spirits added
with new resolutions that keep us forging ahead. New vigour, new goals,
with the learning of yesteryears seal all doubts of achieving what we have
sought our eye upon. Keeping up with the culture of our school, this year too
is packed with activities in both scholastic and co-scholastic domains to
sharpen our learners’ aptitude as well as attitude to help them carve a niche
in the competitive world.
As learners of Grades X and XII are gearing up for their upcoming board
examinations, revision classes and individual sessions are carefully planned to
ensure that each learner gains from the classes and is able to take at least
one step forward in realizing his/her potential to score remarkable results.
To ensure that learners do not get anxious prior to or during the boards,
counseling sessions with the experts were held. It is very important for
learners to stay calm and focused during these final days. As adults, we
must ensure they are well nourished physically, mentally, emotionally and
intellectually.
Our international collaborations will see newer bonds and strengthened
collateral learning liaisons with our partner schools. So far the journey of
symbiotic learning with our partner schools has been phenomenal and our
learners will be visiting our German partner school very soon. A trip to
Paraguay is also in the pipeline. Learners benefit immensely from such
educational trips. Besides adding to their learning curve and know-how
about the culture and tradition of the country; learners get to become more
independent in terms of handling their belongings, finances, connecting with
new people away from home, they yield a sense of intuitiveness and
judgement that is very vital for their wholesome personality. The realization
that ‘I am responsible for what I am doing’, is a great boost to their
confidence. Listening to their tell- tales when they return from trips is an
upheaval of emotions, joy, excitement and surprise….all elements gleefully
spiced!
Competitions make us realize our potentials and give us an insight into what
we ‘can’ do, helping us becoming better and fuller. The sense of achievement
with our small efforts is unparalleled as we compete not just with our
competitors but also with our own inhibitions! Lotus Valley believes in giving
ample opportunities to our learners through which they bring out their best
and resolve to become better than their previous self. Inter –House, Inter-
School, Intra-School, Sports, Music, Dance, Performing Arts, Debates…the
list is endless. Such platforms foster the confidence of learners in addition to
giving them a peep into their inner capabilities.
Let us give wings to our flight and surmount newer heights. Let us resolve to
partake all experiences of life as learning and turn them into opportunities.
Rejoicing the journey of walking together, learning together and rejoicing
together, wishing you all a great year ahead!
Stay Blessed and Happy Reading!
FROM OUR PATRON…
Martin Luther King Jr said, “The
function of education is to teach one
to think intensively and to think
critically.
Intelligence plus character-that is the Dr. Shayama Chona
goal of true education. "So many years
down the lane we still endeavour to Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan

serves the purpose of this tenet.
I extend my heartiest congratulations to
Lotus Valley International School,
Gurugram for bringing out yet another
edition of the e- magazine. A journey of
excellence encapsulating multifarious
experiences, achievements, aspects of
school life hitherto unknown accolades
and bouquets gathered together and
lovingly laid out in this beautiful
testimony of every school’s existence.
Under the guidance and leadership of the principal Ms Anita Malhotra, I
am aware of the excellent work that is being done in the school. The
students have been pushing the boundaries of achievement and the excellent
faculty is committed to offer them the best guidance and support. I am
sure this edition of the e- magazine will be able to communicate the buzz
and vibrance of the school year gone by, and reflect the creativity and
aspirations of its students.
Yet another year of our children’s exemplary achievements and astounding
creativity unfolds in the magazine. I would like to extend my best wishes
and love to the students of grade XII as they appear for the board
examinations and prepare themselves to take new challenges in life .One
entire year of striving, reaching and achieving has come to a successful
close. To quote once again , Browning aptly said-“ Welcome the thunder
and the sunshine”, and look forward to a fulfilling and enriching 2019-20.
FROM THE PRINCIPAL’s DESK…
If you can’t fly, then run
If you can’t run, then walk
If you can’t walk, then crawl
But whatever you do, you have to
keep moving.
At Lotus Valley we encourage our Mrs. Anita Malhotra
learners to forge with confidence and
poise. We motivate them to learn, State & CBSE National Teacher Awardee
grow, share and prosper. The countless
activities that our children do each
day are designed such that they
become creative, self-reliant and
sensitive human beings who make a
significant change in the society and
the world at large.
Our endeavor is to equip children with the skills required to excel in the 21st
century. Whether it is communication, creativity or critical thinking, our
learners are given ample opportunities to hone their skills and develop into
well-rounded individuals. During the last quarter, the school organized the
Learner’s Conclave and the Learners Led League. Both the events were
tremendously successful and gave the learners excellent opportunities to
exhibit their talents and showcase the knowledge acquired during the course
of the year. We witnessed some of the most enrapturing discussions with
luminaries from diverse fields during the two day conclave where pertinent
national and international issues were discussed.
The need of the hour is to make our children ready for global citizenship. We
are in a midst of a paradigm shift taking place with barriers getting
dissolved and the boundaries slowly blurring. It is imperative for our learners
to be willing to embrace people from diverse backgrounds and cultures. This
thought has led us to initiate yet another enriching exchange programme. We
have enjoyed a fantastic association with France, Germany and the UK and
now our students would get an opportunity to visit Prague in the month of
May. I am confident that this programme would also be an extremely
gratifying experience and will help in broadening the learners’ horizons.
Nothing would have been possible without the indefatigable efforts of the
staff, the support of our gracious management and the trust of our parent
fraternity. I thank each member of this family and look forward to
strengthening this partnership with each passing day

working earnestly with our dear
learners to impart, not only
book-based knowledge but also
to provide them with ample
opportunities to explore, learn
and develop a thinking mind of
their own. As a step in this
direction, the school organized
the Annual Presentation, BACK
TO FUTURE, for grades I, II and III
on Friday, 21st December 2018.
Nearly, a month-long enriching
experience of conducting and
presenting the research work by
learners culminated in the
exhibition-cum class
presentation, wherein the
learners spoke about the changes
that have taken place in
technology & communication,
food & lifestyle, values &
traditions, clothing and
entertainment over the years. It
was a sight to behold as the
learners exuberated unmatched
confidence and poise while
giving the presentation and
taking their parents down the
memory lane, as they reminisced
about the bygone era. The power
packed presentation was
followed by a spectacular dance
performance, with our

the different dance forms of
tribal, giddha, ghoomar and
contemporary, culminating into a
Grand finale.
SPORTACULAR – Pre-Primary Sports Fest
Sports play a vital role in educating the
students in several ways. Also, it
makes the children active and agile.
Various sports help to build the co-
ordination between mind and body
while strengthening motor-skills. It
helps to develop mental faculties of
the learners and hone their problem
solving abilities. Lotus Valley
International School Gurugram,
organized a Sports Fest-‘Sportacular
2018-19’ in the month of February for
Pre Primary learners. The learners,
mentors and parents united together
to celebrate the day with energy,
colour and style. Little learners jogged
their way into the school greens in
high spirits and enthusiasm. The event
opened with a bang by the young
learners dancing to the song-‘Ek
Zindagee’ which was sung in unison by
a live choir of 160 learners from
Grades- I, II and III. An energizing
equestrian display set the tone for the
rest of the event. Learners of Grade-III
played the master of ceremony and
kept the crowd involved with their
wise anecdotes and confident speech.
Participation of the parents in the
races heightened the spirits of
everyone. It was a day filled with
sportsmanship, enthusiasm and
memories to cherish. Each student
walked out with a medal depicting the
importance of participation over
competition.
GRADE PREP- GRADUATION DAY
“You’re off to great places! Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting, so… Get on your way!”
There’s something magical about graduation, in which a spark can be seen on the faces of
accomplished students who are about to embark on the next chapter of their lives. The
same spark and joy could be sensed in Grade Prep where the corridors were filled with
emotions to rejoice and cherish as these young minds celebrated their Graduation
ceremony on 28th February, 2019. The ceremony started with a great show of confidence
and charisma by the learners on the song “Goodbye” that left everyone enthralled. They
were then felicitated with Graduation caps and personalized titles such as Miss
Knowledgeable, Miss Artistic, etc. Learners’ parents also graced the occasion and
expressed their gratitude by appreciating the learners for their determination and
mentors for their involved participation in every child’s growth. Our principal also
congratulated and blessed the little ones in her motivating address. The celebrations
culminated with everyone coming together and presenting an endearing dance
performance.
CRUISING THE WORLD
SPECIAL DAYS
INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PERSON WITH DIFFERENT ABILITIES
“However difficult life may seem, there is always something you
can do and succeed at.” -Stephen Hawkings
To ensure every person is looked upon with the same respect and dignity, December 3 is
marked as International Day of Persons with Different Abilities. This day is an
international observance promoted by the United Nations since 1992. In our relentless
pursuit to ignite a true human spirit of compassion and sensitivity amongst our learners,
World disability Day was celebrated in our school on Monday, 3rd December, 2018.
There have been many famous specially-abled personalities who have changed the
dynamics of the world and left a mark. Learners across all primary classes were shown
the videos of Steve Jobs, Albert Einstien, Helen Keller and many more. Learners then
prepared a list of their favorite personalities with different disabilities and wrote few
lines about each one of them. This definitely motivated learners to work towards
achieving their dreams, despite any challenges.
