Work for a Cause…not Applause.
Live life to Express…not to Impress.
PREFACE
It gives us immense pleasure to present the Second edition of our
Quarterly e-magazine, Different Strokes. The e-magazine is one of the
many earnest efforts by the school to keep the parents updated about
the various school events, classroom pedagogies and learners’ academic
growth. For hasn’t someone rightly remarked that “Education is a
shared commitment between dedicated teachers, motivated students
and enthusiastic parents!”
It has always been our constant endeavour to ignite the spark of
curiosity in the learners, to kindle the flame of imagination, to
encourage questioning, to lead them on the path of knowledge and
enlightenment and create future global citizens.
The last quarter was chock-full of events and activities which helped the
learners hone their skills and exhibit their talent. While the Inter-
School Fest, Umang Tarang proved to be a great platform to nurture
the young minds, Seva Mela sparked the spirit of service as enthusiastic
parents and teachers came together in huge numbers to show their
support towards a noble cause. Our Middle School Students had the
time of their life during trips to Jim Corbett, Sariska, Nainital, Jaipur,
Agra and Amritsar as they not only discovered new places but also got
a chance to discover themselves. These invigorating excursions surely
perked them up and created memories for a lifetime. Lotus Valley also
welcomed students from Clara Schumann Gymnasium, Lahr, Germany
when they visited us for a period of two weeks during the month of
October. This exchange programme was enriching, enjoyable and
expanded the learners’ horizons. The school and parents joined hands,
yet again to spread the message of harmony and peace through
Walkathon whereas Gallery Walk, a completely learner driven event,
acquainted the parents with the whole gamut of creative classroom
work done over the year. Last but not the least,
The Learners’ Conclave with its amazing line up of illustrious speakers
from diverse fields and highly acclaimed performances became a red
letter day for the school. The following pages will give you a peep into
our exciting and colourful journey.
We take this opportunity to express our sincere gratitude to our parent
fraternity for their passionate involvement and constant trust. We are
confident that our consistent efforts coupled with your unconditional
support will help our learners scale new heights and spread their wings.
We hope you have a wonderful time cruising through our learners’
achievements.
Happy Reading!!
FROM OUR PATRON…
'Teamwork is a fine art of skilled penmanship where each dot is
equally essential for the completion of the entire picture.’
This spirit of Teamwork is
celebrated each day at Lotus Valley
International School, Gurugram. My
joy knows no bounds when I see the
school excelling under the able
leadership of the Principal, Mrs.
Anita Malhotra, who brings each
dot together to form a beautiful
picture. The grand success of the
Learners’ Conclave is truly a
testimony of the vision and
aspirations she holds for her
students.
Today, our education system needs Dr. Shayama Chona
a complete overhaul. We need to Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan
look beyond percentages, Ivy
Leagues, entrance exams and first Awardee
pay packets.
Education must sensitise the society in which, unfortunately, human
values are rapidly being forgotten in the chase for materialism. The Lotus
Valley team endeavours to inculcate the right values in children so that
they do not become a part of the rat race; on the contrary, they make
real and meaningful contributions to the world and become the
harbingers of change. Respect, chivalry and compassion form an integral
part of the school curriculum. Indeed, I feel immensely satisfied when I
see how Lotusians are given not just wings to fly and realise their
dreams, but also the roots to stay grounded.
I wish the school all the very best and congratulate the entire team for
their tireless efforts in nurturing and shaping the young minds in the
right way.
FROM THE PRINICPAL’s DESK…
John Maxwell, a leading American author, once said, “Successful and
unsuccessful people do not vary greatly in their abilities. They vary in their
desires to reach their potential.” The key to success is knowing,
understanding, and believing in our own potential and acting on it
Lotus Valley International School helps its Ms. Anita Malhotra
learners to discover their potential and State & CBSE National Teacher
guides them to shape their
future successfully. We are living in a Awardee
constantly evolving world and the field of
Education is no different. The school
acknowledges that today communication
is one of the key factors that helps us to
garner new ideas and equips us in
exploring new horizons.
“The Learners Conclave” was one such
initiative which provided a stage for the
learners to come together to deliberate
over pertinent issues of national and
international importance.
Umang-Tarang, an Inter-School Fest for our Primary Grades was a
brilliant platform for our students to showcase their talent through an
assortment of activities ranging from dance to music, to enactment,
declamation and technology. Lotus Valley believes not only in imparting
education but also in instilling values and cultivating social consciousness
among its learners. Seva-Mela was a gratifying experience for all, an event
that reinforced the spirit of ‘Giving’ while Walkathon was a sincere
attempt to spread the message of harmony and peace.
We take immense pleasure to share that “Lotus Valley International School,
Gurugram” has been ranked amongst the top three schools in Gurugram,
amongst top 10 schools in Delhi- NCR and top fifteen schools PAN
India, as per the Education World India School Rankings 2018-19. This
would not have been possible without your support, dear parents.
Our Coffee Meets and Face Time are some forums which help to strengthen
our partnership with you.
On behalf of my teachers and students, I thank you for being a part of this
successful journey and look forward to celebrating our learners’
achievements together.

NEWSPAPER Hasn’t someone so rightly
remarked that it’s not about how
IN EDUCATION many words you can read per
minute but rather how many new
ideas you are left with after you
have finished reading? Ideas!
That’s what makes all the
difference, differentiating between
the ordinary and the
extraordinary! After all, today a
reader is tomorrow a leader.
Keeping this in mind, Lotus Valley
offers regular Newspaper in
Education (NIE) and Primary Plus
programmes to its learners to fulfil
the task of inspiring the love for
reading. NIE promotes the use of
newspapers as an educational
resource in classrooms. It doesn’t
only provide real news, but also
gives students an insight into the
formal usage of English language.
Furthermore, using newspapers
helps teachers bring real world
application to the subjects they
teach.
Our pre-primary
learners continued
doing some interesting
activities in the
fortnightly magazine,
PRIMARY PLUS. Be it
picture based stories,
fun filled math
questions, colouring or
solving exciting riddles,
the learners had an
array of activities to
choose from and
indulge in!
OLYMPIADS A large number of learners from Lotus
& IBT Valley enrolled themselves in Olympiad
examinations, which are held every year
with the aim to identify young geniuses
and create a talent pool for future. These
examinations help learners to test their
understanding, knowledge and power of
reasoning. Besides building their
confidence, these exams also provide
students with an opportunity to solve a
wide range of High Order Thinking Skills
(HOTS) based questions.
The school also gave learners an opening
to enroll themselves in ‘The International
Benchmark Test (IBT)’, an Internationally
acclaimed program conducting English,
Mathematics, Science and Reasoning
assessments. These assessments have
provided an effective platform for our
learners to showcase their talent at State,
National and International levels.

DISCOVERY LAB Grade II & III
Science is nothing but an extension of our everyday world. The
objective behind igniting scientific thinking in our young learners at
an early age is to expose them to different possibilities and practical
understanding of their surroundings. So science is the ideal subject
to complement a child’s natural curiosity. To take this view forward,
Learners were engaged in many activities and discussions on various
planned topics. Activities like composition of blood, Uniqueness of
fingerprints, Harmful effects of sugar on our health which we intake
knowingly and unknowingly, browning of apples (why apples turn
brown and ways to prevent it), knowing basic chores of life through
a game-minute to win it, Research work on types of houses, high
five for safety (how to be safe from strangers and be a stronger
person) etc. These activities helped our young learners to come up
with their own opinions about the world and made them aware and
conscious about a healthy lifestyle.
Discovery lab activities are designed to help learners extend their
learning beyond class room and get a hands on experience of the
concepts. Visit the laboratory excites them as much as gaining
knowledge about a new topic.
Following activities have so far been conducted for Grade III
learners.

INTER-SCHOOL FEST
“Use what talents you
possess; the woods would be so
silent if no birds sang there
except those that sang best…”
–Henry Van Dyke
With the sole aim to provide our
learners with a novel platform to
showcase their talents, the school
organized an Inter-School Fest, ‘Umang
Tarang – Nurturing Talent’ for Grades
Prep – III on 19th September, 2018. It
offered a profusion of literary and
cultural competitions including Mad
About Ad, Kaavya-Ras, Technovation
Challenge and Street Play to name a few.
The fest was a huge success with an
enthusiastic participation of around 500
learners from some of the most
prominent schools from Gurugram and
Delhi-NCR. It was indeed invigorating to
see the young contingent participate in a
number of events, with unbridled fervor,
as they exhibited their inherent talents
with abundant confidence.
