WORLD The right to food is a basic
human right. Keeping this belief
FOOD in mind, 150 countries across
the world celebrate WORLD
DAY FOOD DAY on 16th October
every year. The celebration
promotes worldwide awareness
and action towards creating a
world, which will offer food
security for one and all. Our
school also joined the cause and
celebrated this day by spreading
awareness in the learners of
primary block through various
activities. Grade Prep learners
participated in a ‘Show and Tell’
activity and prepared a Food
Pyramid learning about the food
groups and the nutrients each
group provides. An activity
named ‘I Am the Food Saviour’
was conducted for Grade 1
learners wherein they were
rewarded for not wasting food
for an entire week. The learners
of Grade II designed attractive
posters in which they projected
the thought “Waste Less Feed
More”. After a brainstorming
session on the need and means
to create a hunger-free world,
the Grade 3 learners made
colourful paper kites with their
wishes for A Hunger-Free World
written on them. The learners of
the primary block participated
enthusiastically in these
activities and pledged to work
diligently towards the theme of
World Food Day for the year
2018: Our actions are our
future. A zero-hunger world by
2030 is possible!

dress for it”- Edith Head The World Fashion Day is celebrated
annually on August 21st to
WORLD commemorate the glory, spirit and art of
FASHION fashion throughout the world. Our
DAY school also celebrated this day by
involving the learners in an array of
activities. The learners of Pre-Nursery
and Nursery enjoyed their time being in
the limelight while they walked the ramp
dressed up as their favorite characters
from different stories. Each section of
Grade Prep chose one color from
VIBGYOR to give fashion a unique
definition. Mentors discussed with the
learners how colours represent emotions
and moods.
Learners of Grade I were dressed to make a statement of ‘Fusion with
Confusion’. They dressed up in regional, national and international attires and
spoke about their fusion with poise and confidence. The learners of Grade II
painted t-shirts to depict ‘Fashion with a difference’. Each section shared a
social message through the painted t-shirts such as saving water, peace,
friendship etc. Learners of Grade III were shown a presentation on global
textile patterns followed by an activity wherein they drew traditional fabric
patterns on A4 sheets from around the world. These included Tartarn pattern
from Scotland, Indonesian Batik art, Ikat from India, Adinkra from Ghana,
Russian Roller print, Tibetan Woolen and Persian Paisley.

POST
DAY
Our young learners got their first peek into the rich history of ‘POSTAL SERVICES’ on
World Post Day, which was celebrated on Friday, 9th October 2018. An interactive video
was shown to learners of Grade- Nursery to introduce the concept of postal services
prevalent in past. Grade Prep learners were encouraged to write a letter to their parents
expressing their love and care. A teacher and a learner came dressed up in the uniform
of an Indian Postman and distributed postcards to all learners, which created a lot of
excitement in pre-primary classrooms. The learners then made free-hand drawings and
wrote short loving messages for their families on these postcards. These postcards were
then posted to learners’ homes as a surprise for their parents. Learners of Grade II
showcased their creative flair by designing and writing on travel postcards. They also
learnt the basics of preparing an envelope for posting, importance of writing the correct
mailing address and putting the postal stamp. Learners of Grade III celebrated this day
with yet another interesting activity wherein they created and designed their own
postage stamps. They learnt about the evolution of postage stamps.
The feeling of patriotism and gaiety hung
in the air at Lotus Valley School, when
learners and parents assembled in full
fervour to celebrate the 72 nd
Independence Day on 15 th August 2018.
The honourable Principal, Mrs. Anita
Malhotra unfurled the Tricolour and all
sang the National Anthem in accord. The
spectacular dance performances, patriotic
songs and Nukkad Naatak presented by
the Junior and Senior school students left
the audience spellbound and made their
hearts swell with pride for the Nation. The
spirit of freedom, peace and unity in
diversity were well depicted through the
heart warming presentations. The
Celebration came to an end by the
thought provoking and inspiring words of
the Principal who emphasised the
responsibility that the youth, as leaders of
tomorrow, need to shoulder in order to
bring about a change in the Society and
the World.

The Pre-Primary wing celebrated the
auspicious occasion of Guru Nanak
Jayanti with eagerness and elation. The
day started with a ‘Prabhat Pheri’ with
our little learners dressed as ‘Panj Pyare’
carrying the symbols of the Guru.
Volunteer parents and grandparents
enthusiastically participated and
enlightened the learners about the
significance of the day through an
informative presentation.
The Celebrations instilled in learners,
the valuable teachings of humanity
and goodness as advocated by Guru
Nanak Dev Ji. The chants of the Mool
Mantra ‘Ek OnKar’ resounded the
corridors as the little learners walked
around the school campus. The
Nishaan Sahib, the Guru Granth Sahib
and Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s picture filled
spiritual emotions in all present
there.

DIWALI CELEBRATION
A Russian proverb says, 'Always be a little kinder
than necessary.’ Kindness can be shown through the smallest of
gestures like holding the door for a stranger or simply
WORLD letting a friend take the first turn in a game. On
November 13, Lotus Valley International School
KINDNESS celebrated World Kindness Day, the purpose of which
is etched in the heart of every Lotusian. The learners
DAY from grades Pre Nursery-III donated one stationery
item per child, in order to compile a complete
stationery kit for the lesser privileged. The school
constantly endeavours to inculcate virtues of ‘empathy’
and a sense of ‘giving back to the society’ among the
learners on a day to day basis through various events
and activities.

DAY
Children’s Day was
celebrated on 14th
November with great
fervor and enthusiasm. It
began with the mentors
discussing the significance
of the Special Day by
narrating stories from the
life of Pt. Jawaharlal
Nehru. Learners from
Grades III-V watched their
favourite movies including
‘’Incredibles and ‘Coco’ in
the School Auditorium.
The school greens
witnessed high spirits and
carefree smiles as the
Lotusians cherished free
play time. The classrooms
resonated with sounds of
laughter and merriment as
the mentors made the
learners play fun games.
The school was festooned
with balloons symbolising
happiness in the heart of
each learner.
INTERNATIONAL The International Students’ day
wDay is celebrated all around the
STUDENTS DAY world on November 17th to lay
special focus on ensuring education is
available to all students across the
globe. Our school celebrated this
special ith young learners on
Thursday, 15th November 2018. It was
an informative day for the learners of
Grade I as they identified some major
global problems like animal
extinction, environmental pollution
and their impact on world. Learners
then presented their views on ways to
save the environment by means of
beautiful illustrations. In Grade II,
learners were assigned different
countries and were asked to make
their flags and research about the
way ‘Hello’ is spoken. All these flags
were later attached together and
displayed in the classroom. Learners
of Grade III designed their personal
badges. The young minds proudly
wrote on their badges why they
considered themselves to be good
students. The excited learners also
wore these badges with pride during
GALLERY WALK held on 17th
November, 2018.
‘Without a sense of caring there will be no sense of community’.
GUEST Lotus Valley International School truly believes that
education is complete when it is not just confined to
SPEAKERS the textbook learning but also connected to the real
world. Making this possible for Grade Prep learners,
the school had organized an enriching day for them
wherein they interacted with the parents specialising
in various fields. Many parents excelling as Pilot,
Dentist, Baker and Flight Attendant, took time out
and shared information about their respective
professions to make the young learners aware of
their corresponding duties and responsibilities. The
learners were fascinated to know about different
fields and asked interesting questions, which made
the session all the more fulfilling.
A day spent The little learners of Primary Wing were enthused to
have German guests in their class rooms and loved
with GERMAN interacting with them. The Germans, in turn tried their
hands at the Art studio and loved involving themselves
friends at in dance and music with the little ones. Grades II and
PRIMARY WING III learners had Germans for company in the Computer
Lab and their class room sessions. The instant connect
of the teenagers with our toddlers was overwhelming
and filled the rooms with smiles and chatter and
laughter.
FAREWELL Lotus Valley International School bid adieu to the German
guests after a fruitful and super successful completion of the
TO first phase of Indo-German Students Exchange and Language
GERMAN Immersion Programme, 2018-19. The 15 days spent
GUESTS together were enriching and overwhelming for students of
both schools and brought with it learning experiences,
memories and strengthening of cross cultural bonds. The
children accompanied German students on Delhi Darshan on
Saturday, 27th Oct and saw them off on Sunday morning at
T3, International airport. It was difficult to say Goodbye to
the German peers although Goodbye is not forever, it simply
means that we will soon meet again. The German Exchange
will enter its second phase with the visit of our learners to
Clara Schumann Gymnasium, Lahr, Germany, sometimes
around June, in the Academic Session 2019-20.

Award from Ms Karishma Kapoor, the actress. Mrs Maneka Sanjay Gandhi, Union

Mrs Anita Malhotra, the Founder Principal of Lotus Valley International School,

justified to our students and private authors and publishers, and was felicitated for ‘Active
Participation and Incredible contribution on Chairing the session’ at North Educator’s
Summit.
Hindustani Bhasha Akademi Award
6 Learners of Lotus Valley International School, Gurugram – Khushi Anand, Pranjali,
Sonali Goel, Prikshit, Kajal Upadhyay, Aniket and their Hindi Teacher- Ms Sumanlata
were felicitated for their outstanding performance in Hindi Subject in Class 10 CBSE
Board Exams by Hindustani Bhasha Akademi “Medhavi Chaatr evum Hindi Shikshak
Sammaan Samaroh – Bhasha Prahari evum Bhasha DootSammaan” on 30th
September 2018 (Sunday) at Govt. Girls College, Sector – 14, Gurugram. Personalities
such as Sudhakar Pathak (Chairperson), Dr. Prasann Kumar (Member of Parliament,
Social worker and Writer), Dr. Ashok Diwakar (Vice Chancellor –Starex University), Dr.
Mukta (Ex – Director of Haryana Sahitya Akademi, Panchkula) graced the ceremony
with their presence.
SCHOOLWISER – Educators Conclave
Schoolwiser, a platform to connect parents & educationists, invited Lotus Valley
International School for the ‘Educators Conclave’ held on 18th August 2018 at The
Epicentre, Gurugram. Ms. Ritu Jawa, Headmistress (Primary) represented the school for
the same and shared the panel with other Educationists. The topic of interest was to help
parents understand the difference between Best vs. Right School as education is on the
brink of major reform and students need to be prepared to deal with critical situations in
life. At this crucial juncture wherein, there are a variety of options to pick from, it
becomes imperative for parents to make the right choice for their child. The panel shared
their views on the topic and gave an insight on the points to observe while seeking
admission for their wards. The Conference concluded with an interaction with parents
followed by a Question-Answer session.
Hindi Olympiad
Hindi Vikas Sansthan, Delhi organized the
coveted Hindi Olympiad on 21st August
2018 at Lotus Valley International School,
Gurgaon. Students from classes IV- X
participated in the test which evaluated
their knowledge of Vocabulary, Grammar,
Subject proficiency and knowledge of
eminent literary figures of the Hindi
Language. Students participated in the
Olympiad with much zeal and vigor. It was
evident in the result as the students made
the school proud with their
outstanding performance. 5 students
(Yagan Gupta – Grade 2, Riddhi Manocha
– Grade 5, Khushi Joshi – Grade 5,
Vidyansh Kohli – Grade 8, Bhakti Bansal –
Grade 8)received a special mention for
securing the 1st Position at the National
Leveland were honoured with trophies
and certificates.
35 students received gold, bronze and
silver medals. Khushi Anand, who scored
highest marks in Hindi subject in CBSE
Class 10 Board Exams, was also honoured
with trophy and certificate.
The students and their Mentor Mrs

ceremony organized by Hindi Vikas

BRAVERY AWARD – Ananya Sud of Grade IV Gulmohars
With pride, Lotus Valley International An enthusiastic and passionate
School shares the achievement of its swimmer, she used her presence of
young learner, Ananya Sud of Grade IV mind and swam towards the girl, when
Gulmohars, who saved a 4-year-old child only the small child’s hand was visible in
from drowning in a resort pool at Taj the deeper side of the
Exotica, Goa while Ananya was there on a pool. Ananya pulled out the little girl
vacation with her parents. and rescued her. She was given a trophy
and medal on 4th November 2018 by the
cultural team at Taj Exotica.
TWINKLINKS– a book composed by 7 years old sisters duo

publication of the book,
“Twinklinks” composed by
the two talented 10 years
old twin sisters of Grade VI-
Sutlej- Mihikaa Singh and
Maansi Singh’.
The name ' Twinklinks has
been derived from their
identity- as poetry flowing
through the ink of twins,
Twin and Inklinks together
forming Twinklinks. It’s their
maiden book, a collection of
poems and paintings by
them. The cover of the book
too is one of their paintings.
They began writing at the
age of 7-8 years and their
poems have been published
in the school magazine a lot
of times.
Their book “Twinklinks” was launched at the
Literary confluence by the Guests of Honours,
namely, eminent writers Dr. Santosh Bakaya, Ms.
Lily Swaran, Ms. Satbir Chadha and renowned
publisher Mr. Sudarshan Kcherry, of Authorspress
and the society’s ambassadors Amarendra
Khatua, Ms. Kiren Babal and Dr. Mridula Tandon.

Show 2018 - ‘Unity in Diversity’ held on
15th September 2018 at Hyatt Regency. As
the promoters of Inclusion, we brace this
cause and follow the holistic objective to
bring equality amongst all. Each year our
school draws support to the cause and
partakes --to acknowledge, understand,
and value the differences among each
other. It is indeed the love for these
beautiful children of God that brings us
together. While Principal, Mrs. Anita
Malhotra along with the students, Shivali
Mishra from Grade-X and Rhea Aggarwal
from Grade-XI, walked hand in hand with
the students of Tamana, the
Headmistress, Ms. Ritu Jawa extended her

SEVA MELA -Learning and Earning for a Cause
Lotus Valley International School, Gurugram, organized its Annual event, Seva Mela –
‘Learning and Earning for a Cause’ on Saturday, 13th October 2018, for the third
consecutive year. The event kindled the spirit of service as learners, parents and teachers
passionately joined hands in large numbers to extend their support towards the noble cause
. It was a heartwarming experience for all the volunteers who worked earnestly and
tirelessly with the sole objective of bringing a smile on the faces of the less privileged. It was
indeed a sparkling and enjoyable event with a number of exciting games and palatable
eateries to offer. The initiative truly helped to instil the value of compassion and empathy in
our learners.

SEVA MELA– Learning and Earning for a Cause
Raahgiri- District Administration Gurugram and Raahgiri Foundation
organized an Open Street Program ‘Raahgiri’ on 23rd
NukkadNatak September 2018 Vikas Marg, Sector – 50, Gurugram. Grade 3
students of Lotus Valley International School, Gurugram
staged a street play themed on ‘harmful effects of plastic’.
Students performed with full enthusiasm and all appreciated
the street play. Various different activities were conducted in
the program. MCG Officers, many notable people and other
residents graced their presence.
